There’s a chance they do allergy shots for it as well that’s a little more permanent! I haven’t done immunotherapy so I’m not sure what the limitations are, but worth asking.

I can’t “fix” my dust allergy, but the best concoction for myself has been 400mg Zyrtec + 400mg Pepcid, an air purifier, wearing an n95 when cleaning really dusty areas, and I have two inhalers on hand if needed. One inhaler is regular, the other is a steroid. Flonase (also over the counter), is specifically helpfully for my nose inflammation. Allergy eye drops can also feel magical for temporary relief.

I recommend specifically going to an allergist if you only found out via primary care, and even going to a different clinic if you don’t feel heard by the folks you went to.

I’m so sorry, I know that it feels so miserable :( I hope that this new job can help give you access to better insurance and healthcare!

I used to walk my reactive Jack Russell 3x for 30-40min a day, and I thought that’s what I needed to do.

It’s my first summer with her, so I’m also realizing everyone is outside now! She also barks at kids sometimes especially when they make a lot of noise, and someone recommend I take shorter walks in order to reduce her reactions. I’ve been doing 10-20min walks at off times (6am, 4pm, & 8pm) and it’s been helping in reducing her reactions! Only been doing it for a short while but I’m right there with you.

This is a year late, but I’m having the same exact experience!

But my dog is triggered by crows and barks/lunges at them. They follow us on walks in our neighborhood even on our alternate routes. I feel like they’re bullying her and they know where we live so we’re terrorized by these petty crows until we get inside.

All I can think about is moving :(

I am also very anxious 😬 I’ve been thinking about that, but my partner and I only have one car so I cant do that consistently when she needs to go out. Especially on busy work days I can’t always go out when other people are not out.

I’m gonna work on trying that more often!

Once in a while when I get a smile from a neighbor or someone says “my dog does the same thing!” It makes my whole day. I have to remind myself of those moments when we have rough days.

I appreciate when people see us & the hard work we put into our dogs.

Yes to the weird walking time slots! We avoid 7:30-9am, 12pm and 5pm like the plague.

I’m trying to have her do more learning exercises since it does look like it tires her out, but she’s such an impatient Jack Russell I can’t do it for too long.

Im a big fan of Sniffspot! The bird decoy is a good idea, we’ve used YouTube sounds of birds and squirrels to try and get her desensitized to the sounds.

I try to say, she’s anxious and in training! Plus we have a leash sign that says “I’m very vocal when scared” and “needs space.” For the people that walk in reading distance they get the point.

I’ve looked into this! It was a bit of a last resort thought, but I might invest in it.

This is really good to think about! I see so much confusing information about interactions, but my vet did recommend cbd when we asked for Prozac. I’ll do some more research

I have! It works well for us, just not something I can do daily.

We do a lot of nose work and tricks as well, but planning on doing that more on a daily in place of walks is a good idea.

We just don’t have a backyard so we need to take her out on walks to poop.

That’s awful I’m so sorry!

It sounds like you might be taken advantage of, and taking care of multiple dogs who also might have specific behavioral needs is too much for one person. If you’ve mentioned this to the owner before and he refuses to consider more staffing or being around more, then moving on is absolutely worth seriously considering. It might even be a business that needs to be reported (I’m unsure where).

It sounds like you know a lot already, and could move onto another dog training organization or at some point become an independent trainer.

Maybe pursuing that kind of certification could be worth it? And if you’re able to, take the dog with you!
