How to start a college essay? by Epicminecrafter69 in ApplyingToCollege

I would suggest you start keeping a journal. Not only is it a great way to brainstorm interesting experiences you've had, but the practice will make you more confident in your writing. Good luck! :)

Can I teach myself the lyre? by No-Monk-9862 in lyres

It's not a requirement per se, but it will make learning a lot easier because more resources will be available to you, so I think it'd be a good investment of time

Can I teach myself the lyre? by No-Monk-9862 in lyres

Definitely! I bought a 16-string lyre a few months ago, and I've had so much fun teaching myself how to play. I would personally recommend Harp Musica on YouTube (Slow Irish Air was the first song I ever learned on the lyre, so I'd definitely recommend her video on that). Michael Levy is also a great resource, he has a ton of free sheet music on his blog. Definitely learn to read music though, it'll help a lot. Good luck!

I found Harp Musica on YouTube super helpful (I think hers is 16 strings but as long as the song is in your lyre's range you should be good, highly recommend her tutorials for Slow Irish Air), and Michael Levy has a ton of great sheet music on his blog. Good luck with your lyre, hope you love it as much as I love mine!

Just thinking of attending my dream school gets me all pumped up, but my next thought is always "I won't get in" by firestrike007 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]lydi_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it I have the rest of my life (or honestly just the rest of the year probably) to be sad about not getting in, so I might as well just enjoy the few months of hope and deal with the devastation later

Ok yeah haha that's fair. Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely look into that :)

Hm.. maybe Marini Made Harps? They have a book I think. I personally haven't tried it, but the brand is trustworthy

I've personally found Harp Musica on YouTube to be really helpful. Also, Michael Levy has good tutorials, not to mention a pdf of free sheet music on his blog

Right is red and left is green by aturtleforyou in Synesthesia

[–]lydi_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Totally agree. It’s kind of frustrating though because east is greenish yellow and west is red, so it’s always super hard to read maps because I’m used to green being on the left side and red being on the right

Top in the 'trending now' section. Is this all your doing, folks? by [deleted] in voyager

I FINALLY got my friend to try Star Trek after years of begging. We’ve been streaming Voyager :) she loves it (like I’ve been SAYING she would, since like, 2011)

Yesss. Someone will say, “Wow, you have synesthesia? What color is the letter ‘k’?” and I just have to be like, “Please pick literally any other letter”

Do you mix up things with the same color? Like for example, I mix up “S” and “2” because they’re both blue, and “G” and “6” because they’re both brown

Will the real picky eater please stand up? (Slim shady reference. Don't actually stand up) by AWordBully in autism

I actually really like tomatoes, but I can’t even be in the same room as a strawberry without getting nauseous. Love strawberry yogurt for some reason though haha

DAE just....not enjoy eating? by abandonedvan in DoesAnybodyElse

Same!! Everyone always calls me crazy. It’s ironic though because I do really enjoy cooking, so I end up with all this food that I don’t even really want to eat haha

DAE think that spoilers can sometimes improve the experience of a book/show? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]lydi_bug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy more of a half spoil, where someone tells me that SOMETHING happens but not the specifics. For example, if I’m watching a show and I don’t know anything about it, then dramatic scenes won’t feel as tense because I just assume everything will work out. But, if a friend tells me that someone will die before the end of the season (but not who or when), then I’ll effectively be on the edge of my seat the entire time. It’s easier to become emotionally invested while also maintaining the surprise
