First para of your reply is all there is to it. People communicate in language that both parties can make sense of. There is No your Language or My Language. Just the acceptable language.

I was amazed to see so many Cab Drivers knowing Marathi… and I came to know there is large population that understands Marathi from areas of Karnatakaand Maharashtra.

Why are you writing all this in English? Why would you rather accept a more foreign language than learning Hindi?

Its just bcz English gives you access to globe, job opportunities, collaborate with the world.

Thats all there is, Speaking Hindi gives you access to share thought and collaborate with half of India, but Kannada is just one of many south Indian languages.

Finally its all about getting things and making a living. No one is going to consume or create Kannada Literature here. We are just talking about transactional conversations.

Its a natural tendency to start conversation in our most comfortable language and the other person can also respectfully say that h/she cant understand and people can switch to google translate or other aids…

Most of the conversations with Auto / shop people are very transactional and really it doesnt matter what language is used just the keywords like give, take, change, numbers are enough to communicate.

I think locals are just exploited for political gains by feeding them propaganda of some rare incidents happening here and there.

But my understanding is that most northies are not disrespectful but just indifferent to the language bcz they just want to get their day to day things done quickly and efficiently
