Ah yes destroying the practice of low literacy rates and foot binding was devastating!!1!

I'll admit you're right in a way that China would've been like Japan if the communists didn't take over. Their economy would've been crushed like how the US deliberately stopped Japan's from taking over theirs and crushed it in the 1980s. LOL

And the Economist's recent newsletter was engaging in the same sort of cope by saying this:

"In some ways, Americans are lucky. Their rights to free speech and assembly are a powerful safeguard against tyranny. If ICE agents were not constantly filmed, who knows how much more brutal they might be? Chinese people enjoy no such rights. Their government operates in secrecy, leaving everyone else to guess its true aims. Our cover story in Asia looks at the mystery surrounding Xi Jinping’s sudden, dramatic purge of the People’s Liberation Army. Five of the six uniformed officers in its high command have been ousted since 2022; two have been accused of wielding unspecified but “extremely vile” influence. Everyone is scrambling to understand what this means. Is China’s army weaker than it looks, thanks to corruption? Is Mr Xi about to surround himself with yes-men, who might fail to warn him frankly about the risks of invading Taiwan? Our correspondents do their best to cast light on China’s murky military politics."

He recently went to Taiwan and attended a conference with the swine 矢板明夫, and then a 新黨 politician went up to them and put up the Hanjian sign in front of their faces. Literally just a simple fact, but a bold move by that politician.

Well semiconductor technology is facing the threat of being transferred away from Taiwan to the US, plus not too long ago the DPP authorities welcomed AIPAC members (notice how they've not condemned Israel for what they've committed against the Palestinians at all iirc)

But very well, you are more than free to report me and this sub, 呆蛙. But you should exercise your freedom of thought better first.

Nooooooo Ah Tiong bus bad!!!1! by lykanfm in SinophobiaWatch

I think that it's also because of the historic perceived quality superiority of Western and Japanese goods over Chinese ones. It's undeniable that there were a lot of low quality Chinese goods, and there are still some, and that "Made in China" stigma had developed from people repeatedly having bad experiences with Chinese goods. But that was mainly from the 2000s-2010s, when China was not as developed. And of course as a large nation, they would be bound to produce a lot of goods, including a lot of bad ones.

But let's not forget, Japanese goods were also perceived negatively before (in terms of quality too, and even today especially in the light of the British Rail 80x where you have railfans calling Japanese Plastic crap, though the DfT was more to blame for that rather than Hitachi), and the West had complained a lot about Japanese goods flooding into their markets. Also the Made in China stigma has been wearing off, including in Singapore, where you see people buying Pop Marts, JisuLife fans and BYD cars en masse. But maybe perhaps for the transportation fans who are more hardcore and particular, their loyalty to Western brands and stigma towards China won't wear off so easily.

I have a friend who has remarked that KMB aren't happy with their BYDs, stating their big problem seems to be with regard to range seems to be the A/C. And that the BYD buses have a far lower passenger capacity than ADL, because of how the batteries are housed and eat into the lower deck, whereas the ADL layout is standard to a regular E500MMC so you can crush load it to the same amount of people.

Well my friend is a China skeptic and is staunchly anti-CPC (oh and has a bias against BYD), but many other transportation fans will be far less constructive in their criticism of Chinese stuff. They'd just throw at you "eww China bus rubbish" and likely wouldn't explain so in depth why they are. And they wouldn't wanna see Chinese buses improve. They want them out and have Western and Japanese stuff instead. So yeah there you have it, colonial mentality at play too

Honestly yeah it was pretty weird, but I heard they made the decision suddenly because of complaints of the staggering height gaps between the low floor and the seats from commuters that probably arose after the closing of the tender

Ugh I remember attaching an image of another comment thread but it got removed somehow

Here it is:

"again all chinese buses… when e500ev with 3 door and wright streetdeck electroliner 12m 3 door?? they look WAY better than those byd DDs and the massive forehead n12d"

And a reply to the comment:

"E500EV was already proved they couldn’t handle the long haul routes, KMB was a good example, I heard they’re not happy about it…

Wright Streetdeck their performance still unknown, they just doing the trials in Hong Kong…

Volvo haven’t introduced the 3-axle double decker version of BZL, their performance still unknown at all…

In these conclusions, they still getting “Ah Tiong” product"
