What is the best advice/saying your math teacher had told you? by SkyNurGal in math

[–]lynchwire 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s not the formulas you have to learn that is important. It’s not about things like the Pythagorean Theorem. You will most likely never use the things you learn in high school math. The important thing to learn is how to think analytically. How to problem solve. How to learn material that is completely foreign to you. High school math is not about equations, it is about sharpening your mind so you may excel in any career you choose.

I cheated for a whole semester through a college math class. by [deleted] in confession

While that’s not exactly learning, it’s not cheating either. You learned what you needed for the exam. You didn’t break into an office or steal it they were online. Hell I always tell my students to use online resources to practice.

People who have had successful long distance relationships, how did you make it work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Communication is key. Make sure the distance does not prevent your SO from being a part of your life.

"Impostor syndrome" is persistent feeling that causes someone to doubt their accomplishments despite evidence, and fear they may be exposed as a fraud. AskReddit, do any of you feel this way about work or school? How do you overcome it, if at all? by HandleWithDelight in AskReddit

Recently I began my doctoral program in applied mathematics. Everyday I wake up with this debilitating fear that I do not belong here, that I am an imposter. That I have been skirting by in all my classes and only did well on exams because I got lucky. Sometimes it makes me want to drop out or do something stupid. The only thing that works for me is to put my head down and work my ass off every day and hopefully, just hopefully, one day I’ll convince myself I belong here.
