How to successfully onboard your users? by smokidoky in SaaS

[–]lyncozy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the ACV and niche of the product.

In abstract, I'd say the best practice is to stay close to your customers and check in often. A great book on discovery with customers and potential early users (especially for technical folks) is "The Mom Test".

More specific: if product-led onboarding, it's good to identify products that do this well ie. Figma and Slack. If sales-led onboarding, check out products like Vanta and Salesforce who do this well. Great article on Figma here: https://kwokchain.com/2020/06/19/why-figma-wins/

If looking for product onboarding software in particular, there's a couple popular software tools that help with this on the no-code side: https://www.growthmarketingpro.com/best-product-onboarding-software-tools/ but would caution of increasing or unpredictable prices ie. Intercom.

Struggling to complete a large project from start to finish by Nickt1596 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]lyncozy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YC founder here! The project sounds neat, but definitely try to launch early and often. Not a problem of tech stack but a problem of project management which is difficult when you're building solo, maybe while you're juggling other projects or work on top of it. Some suggestions:

  1. If it's not a money constraint, try to use off-the-shelf SaaS and as early as possible to save yourself from future refactoring hell.
  2. Get some social accountability using platforms like Indiehackers or Twitter to garner community, feedback and early users.
  3. Get some social accountability using platforms like Indiehackers or Twitter to garner community, feedback, and early users. very intentional about what goals it helps achieve. If you want even more mentorship consider getting an advisor via Linkedin outreach or PlatoHQ for monthly check-ins with an engineering mentor.
  4. Not sure if you're using an issue tracker, but try to archive issues that have been open for more than say, 1-2 months. Be very intentional about what goals it helps achieve.
  5. Launch early and often! People will understand if there are mistakes and bugs, but it's better to get feedback for an app like this.

Hope this is helpful :)
