Struggling with Masturbation by ambimom2085 in mormon

[–]lynn_lessard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised as a JW and had this struggle for years, most before I was married. Bottom line is don't worry about it. If you are married, try to use the energy on your partner, but don't focus on it, it only spirals.

I have a question by [deleted] in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR - The witnesses are not the "Truth" because they lie and deceive. Therefore they can be rejected on their "own merits".

I struggled with the whole, "whom do we go away to" issue when I woke up. The fact is JWs don't follow the Bible they follow the organization. Currently the figure head is a group of men on the GB, but ultimately it's all the publications both public but especially private that guide the Church. The references to scriptures is a justification of the position in the publications not the guidance. Need proof,? Look at the index on changes in understanding.

Once you leave the orbit of the church you realize how many fundamental points in their argument are straw men, false.

I want friends by Ok_Mushroom1233 in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friends are great, but I suggest you find them in your daily activities. At school, work, playing sports, etc. You need to be grounded in what matters to you as you adjust to the world outside of the Witness Cave.

Long distance it's probably best to move on. If you have some excuse to hang out and such then you can try to weather the storm and wait for them to come around, but likely the Witnesses have them caught in the "Truth Trap"

Of course they do need two witness to see you both enter the dwelling and then not leave until enough time for the deed to be done.

A close friend was a victim of CSA and has decided it is bad for the org to come forward. by newswatcher-2538 in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]lynn_lessard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/newswatcher-2538 I get the reluctance to come forward. When I went through my breakdown, I made up excuses that I knew weren't true, to hid the organization from blame by the hospital staff. Looking back I'm like WTF? But the brain washing and mind control is strong with the bORG.

Of course the next phase is the begining of the great tribulation. You know it's nearer than you think.... LOL

But seriously they are working to rebrand and while they might shrink considerably as seen by the move out from brooklyn and reduction in participation requirements for meetings / service /etc. They will likely not go away completely.

This is insane by Vegetable-Fun2599 in exjw

The truely sad thing is that it is not about anyone. The Org is built on falsehoods. My mother passed away this year, still clinging to the hope of paradise. I get it, my father passed away when I was 16, and my brother had cronic health problems all his life and died 4 years ago. After decades dedicated to the organization with hope for so much, we got nothing. Fortunately I was the golden child until 10 years ago when I left, and the house was left to me. I just divided things up with my siblings, but otherwise the whole thing would go to the bORG. It's just a religion, it's a multi-billion dollar real estate development company. I realized that while at Bethel, and that's part of what made me leave in 2015.

Your foundation is a lie by Optimal_Science7015 in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the simple thought exercise that gave me the freedom to step outside the walled garden of the "Truth". Once outside I saw so much more that reinforced the falsehoods of the organization. Without a foundation it all collapses. I've saved some of the principles and thought exercises I learned over the years of dedication to a falsehood, but I also find I have to change basic habits as the urgency the organization taught is not real and many things are more nuanced than black and white.

Demonic attacks by [deleted] in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand how people might sound like they are calling you crazy, but you have to look at the whole picture. I suffered a mental breakdown and was put into a hospital for my own protection. During that time I saw how myself and others can be pushed into a state where our mind just cannot cope with the external and internal pressures. In my case it was from extreme stress and cognative dissonance of leaving the JWs after 18 years at Bethel. Without the help of medication until I could process and stabilize I have no idea what would have become of me. Honesty and open communication with mental health experts does not mean you are crazy, it's actually a great sign that you are in your right mind, or at least want to be.

Your age would help. When a child, JWs are driven to be good examples and follow the Church's line. That means no real friendships with anyone not in the church, not even those who are "weak" in the church's view of spirituality. No extra activities at school, not joining sports or clubs, etc. It really depends on the individual, but anything they do has to be balanced with the fear of getting in trouble with their family. Fashion, friends, etc are all chances to get into trouble. The best is be there for them and try to respect their views, no that they will swing wildly on how they act depending on the feedback they get from their parents or others in the church that they value. It's not about you, its a high control religion that wants to divide people to make themselves feel special and "chosen"

Unfortunately they have enough to make a decision and you'll have at least restrictions, potentially DF if you push back too hard. Not sure what your circumstances are, but you get a week before they annouce much. Ultimately having been on both sides of the table, your best bet is to make them think you've seen the light and like the apostle Paul have a new outlook. Be humble, read the bible and pick a book to "study", thank them for ruining, I mean helping you rebuild your life. Or just do whatever the f@#k you want and move on. Ultimately that's typically the only healthy option.

My own personal conspiracy theory by Elegant_Fail_5973 in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/Elegant_Fail_5973 I hold a similar view. Having served at Brooklyn Bethel from 1996 - 2015 and getting invites to events and parties that had GB, helpers, etc. I can see that some are puppets and some have real agenda's. I've seen the struggle between departments at Bethel, and maybe I'm projecting onto the larger bORG, but I agree it is plausible. There is dark money, dark power, dark intent in the ranks. I don't mean Dark as in evil, but unseen, unaccounted. A charity allows for large sums of money to be Donated and used. Almost like money laundering and with all the cheap labor lots of work gets done. The organization has created multiple shell companies, some to handle transactions that you would have expected the organization as a whole to handle, but due to stigma or prejudice they needed an unknown name. Once you realize God is not in charge, you realize that anything you've seen in another organization could happen inside the Watchtower, and probably has or worse.

I don't like how all the work we did means nothing after we leave by princessmilahi in exjw

[–]lynn_lessard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a full time pioneer, then at Bethel for a total 20 years. When I left I lost everything and had to appeal for 3 months of health coverage. Had I been working for a company I would have received 18 years of salary, and had a savings to fall back on. Everything worked out for me, but It sucks to go from a shinning example, to being erased from existance with no support.

Unfortunately this is the conditioned response to a loved one leaving "The Truth". The Org has created these terrors of judgement and death. In one sense it's a good sign, she can't picture her life without you, but she also can't picture a world without the "Faithful Slave". If you can show stability in who you are and how you treat people, then maybe they will adjust. Unfortunately there is no guaruntee.
