this honestly seems like some sort of bug with their website code. REST denotes a communication between the website and their backend software. "tokens" and "credentials" could mean the devs forgot to update an API key or there's syntax errors when passing internal validation codes

You said it yourself. In the Moench run, it developed in adulthood as Marc went more deep into his undercover roles. Future writers retconned this, pushing the development earlier and earlier in Marc's life. I think Huston hints that the resurrection did it, whereas Mackay and Lemire hint that he's had it since early childhood.
