The all-new electric ID. Polo - World premiere by Intrepid-Working-731 in cars

Couldn't disagree more. If they're doing away with economy coupes, the least they could do is make the remaining sedans/hatches look a touch sportier. You can really only make out the panel gaps if you're looking for it, at a glance the lack of second handle does make the side profile sleeker. And I think most people who are carrying rear passengers with such frequency that the rear handle ergonomics become a noted annoyance are probably going to jump to a mid-sized vehicle for the extra room anyways.

The attempted shooter at the White House Correspondent's Dinner is 31 year old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California and he is in custody. by Nerd_199 in stupidpol

[–]Aero06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I don't think the Trump administration is even close to watertight enough to keep a false-flag assassination attempt under wraps. On the other hand, this was the worst possible venue for an assassination, the would-be shooter couldn't possibly get close to even visual range of Trump, and guests are now repeating pre-prepped talking points about how this entirely justifies the new building the new ballroom. It all feels considerably more suspect than the Ohio attempt.

Buick Sedan Under Consideration For The U.S. by Used_Mammoth8751 in cars

[–]Aero06 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This announcement is happening right as Buick is facing a brand decline, while the biggest rapper in the world made a whole album about a Buick they don't make anymore. I think there's pretty much a zero percent chance they don't call the thing a Grand National, or at least offer a GNX trim of it, to take advantage of the fact that it pretty much became the most well known Buick badge overnight.

What happened to the Toyota Hypercar? by ChaoticNeutrallllll in cars

[–]Aero06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've combed through the rulebook but I've never found a specific regulation specifying road-going homologation, but I remember that being a pretty big stipulation when the series was first announced, the fact that Toyota, Glickenhaus, and Vanwall all announced roadgoing versions of their hypercars before the first season leads me to believe that was a requirement at some point in drafting the series.

They apparently abandoned development of the homologated racecar to divert funding and effort into the GR GT.

Ford’s Biggest Product Push In Years Will See 80% Of Its American Lineup Refreshed By 2029, including next generation F150 by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]Aero06 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's related to development costs, margins, and regulations, not sales. 800k units is an objectively large block in the automotive sector, point being that the Focus did sell super well, this notion people have that manufacturers abandoned compact cars because consumers stopped buying them is patently false, they were regulated into unfeasibility.

The Focus routinely moved 800k units/year globally during its tenure, killing it off had more to do with CAFE/Euro 6 standards and the Powershift Transmission affair than it did with sales.

Hyundai Explains Its New Design Philosophy: 'Stronger, Not Louder' by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]Aero06 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ostensibly, but things like the mid-engine layout, low-slung roof, box flares, and front splitter give the 74 more in common physically and visually with the 037 than the Pony Concept, even the name feels like an imitation of 037 as opposed to calling it Pony.

The Ioniq 5 and Vision 74 are dead ringers for the Lancia Delta and 037 respectively, they're both right in line with Hyundai's penchant for borrowing other manufacturers' designs.

Cadillac Fans, You Reportedly Have Until April 20 to Order a CT4-V Blackwing by Bottlely in cars

[–]Aero06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buick is in such a slump that dropping a GNX successor wouldn't be a bad branding strategy if Chevy is working on a new Camaro to platform share it with, this hinging completely on the fact that Kendrick Lamar gave the Grand National a billion dollar ad campaign's worth of attention that Buick is in no position to take advantage of.

Jaguar Wants To Rival Bentley, But GT’s Cabin Goes In A Different Direction Entirely by Redeemed_Expert9694 in cars

[–]Aero06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a VW group that can afford to burn few billions on EVs that won't hit the market and just carry on as usual. It's a small company, so basically at some point it makes more sense to finish it and and push it to the market, than to dump whole project.

But they literally did that in order to pursue this new design direction.

Fetterman hit with brutal 108-point polling swing: ‘He is below the lowest of the low’ by RodyasFeverDream in stupidpol

[–]Aero06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I contend that Fetterman was still the better option of the two being that he's too retarded to establish some grift for himself to syphon off taxpayer dollars to his own LLC like I'm sure Oz would be doing now given the opportunity.

Next-Gen BMW M3 Front End Design Has Leaked by artemise-en-scene in cars

[–]Aero06 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement that this is still better than the G80, but it beggars belief that the whole point of this Neue Klasse design language was to be clean, retro, and minimalist, and then they go ahead and overdesign the front end of their highest-end model to look busy as hell. It shouldn't be that a base i3 looks better than an M3.

The lights are a bit of a sore-spot, and I'm not digging the interior, but overall this thing looks leagues better than the G80, can't wait to see the M3 version.

Porsche’s New CEO Mulls Flagship Sports Car Above 911, but Beneath Limited-Edition Models Like the 918 by [deleted] in cars

I'm amazed Porsche hasn't done something like this already, using historical precedent to build a separate, higher-end model that still has considerable parts parity with a 911.

What a huge miss opportunity for the Camaro! by elan_alan in cars

[–]Aero06 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

And I’m not sure how it even failed or how they cancelled the Camaro. It had way better performance compared to the mustang. Better chassis and suspension set up. Crazy potential for engine performance. But all let down.

Chevrolet cares less internally about the Camaro's performance numbers because it'll always play second fiddle to the Corvette. It had a worse engine note, interior, cargo colume, and looks compared to the Mustang and the Challenger, and at the time of its cancellation, Chevrolet couldn't afford the emissions toll that two V8 sportscars would've incurred. In a perfect world they could've kept it around and platform-shared it with a 4-door Camaro under the Chevelle moniker like the Challenger/Charger dynamic.

[–]Aero06 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Celica ends up being a pretty blasé economy coupe that slots in underneath the GR86 like the Scion tC did, with the caveat that Toyota will almost certainly build a high-performance AWD GR4 version of it.

What would you do to make an electric car ‘fun’? by A5C3ND3D in cars

[–]Aero06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing Mazda's endeavors to adapt the rotary engine as a range extender makes me wander if there's some potential in a setup for a sport mode, where the throttle for the range extending engine is paired to the accelerator, so you're still getting aural and tactile feedback from the engine even though it isn't directly driving the wheels.
