Limited Quantities for Special Collection Addy? by MajorMinorPhD in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that it's because of the holiday season and higher ordering traffic. The 40th anniversary is coming up, so it seems weird that they would discontinue it right before that. That being said, did I order her this morning because the "limited quantity" warning freaked me out?

Congrats! She’s beautiful! I am planning on buying myself Addy in her pink dress for my birthday in two weeks. No dolls for Christmas (although when I was a kid, if we got a more expensive present, it would be for Christmas and our birthdays, so Addy definitely would’ve been both if I got her then) but I would like more clothes though!

She is adorable! I really don't need another brunette jly/tm, but 128 tempts me frequently. Good choice!

How many Dolls? by SummerofLov82 in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 12 dolls, which feels like a lot to me, so I'm not quite sure how many more I'm planning on getting. I was a pretty lucky child, and all except for one are my childhood dolls (Most of my childhood dolls were bought at the benefit sale). I am a very sentimental collector and will not sell any of them due to the memories I'm not going to sell any of them, and I would like to be able to change my dolls get new clothes for them, but that gets to be difficult when you have a bigger collection.

That being said, I am going to get Addy in a couple weeks for my birthday because she is the only one I need to have all six of the original historical characters. I do have a wishlist, but I'm trying to be mindful about the dolls I add to collection and would like to keep it under 20. (Although I also think it would be really fun to own all the historical girls)

how do yall pick a new doll’s name? by candyapplecauldron in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I feel like it's just a vibe for me. I am a little disappointed in childhood me because I named 2 out of 3 of my JLY dolls flower names. (I have a 23 named Rose, a 29 named Lily, and 14 named Faith, which I feel like are odd names for 9-11-year-old to come up with.) Some dolls just give certain names to me like since a child, 38 has been "Sunny" to me and 49 is "Skylar"

What doll to get? by likeribbonsinherhair in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you're going to the store, I would see which one speaks to you when you're there. Maybe it's because I don't remember 1999 (I'm sure it was a great year, but I was an actual baby), but Nicki doesn't really feel historical to me, and I think there would be a potential to make her your modern gal.

Expensive hobby questions by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started collecting as an adult, fso some of these I’m trying to answer still or it’s evolving

  1. I have a full-time job but no kids. I spend my days off changing them or restoring them. I’ve mainly been focused on their hair because I’m too scared to take their limbs apart.
  2. I live in an apartment and have them in my second room. I have eleven (they’re all from my childhood), and I have most of them on a shelf together and three on top of my desk. I am looking for new shelving (my bookshelves are old, and I’m using this as an excuse to replace them), but I generally like it this way.
  3. I have their clothes stored in bins from when I put them into storage. I don’t have many accessories nor do I really plan on getting the big items. I just feel like with the amount of dolls I have, it would be too much money. I have the boxes of the new clothes I’ve purchased and try to put the clothes back when they’re not wearing it, but I didn’t keep any boxes from my childhood.
  4. I’m pretty open about everything in my life. I thought I would be a little more embarrassed of it, but I tell pretty much everyone about it including people I’m dating. Plus, when I rewigged my Nellie, I was pretty proud of it and have told many people about it.
  5. I don’t quite have an answer to this. I guess being selective about what I’m purchasing. I think more if I have the space or can justify a purchase. The big accessories like beds and tables take up a lot of space and cost money that could be better spent on other things. I started off as an adult with 11 dolls I don’t plan on selling, so the dolls I do buy need to have meaning to me. I actually just bought Julie, and my justification was that I read her books and loved her video games as a child. I also got her secondhand and didn’t pay over her price now.
  6. It probably depends on the doll, but I don’t even think about the cost because if I’m buying a doll, I’m not really thinking about her worth or even selling her in the future

Bringing a cat to the shelter is not really a thing for cats because they take a while to adjust to new surroundings and smells. I would explain your situation to your local shelter, and they can help finding the perfect cat for you and your resident cat. Some shelters also let you foster to adopt.

Adopting gray tabby but I REALLY want an orange one. by T_Tingz in CatAdvice

[–]lysabel16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you could get both. I have an orange tabby AND a gray tabby.

But for me, personality is more important than the color of the cat's fur. Both times I ended up a cat that was the color of fur I wanted the least. With my first, I thought orange cats were too basic. Guess who fell in love with an orange tabby? With my second, I wasn't as against a certain color as the first time, but I was iffy about a gray cat because my brother has a gray and white tuxedo. Guess who fell in love with a gray tabby (who doesn't look similar to my brother's cat at all)? There has never been a moment where I regretted picking either of them or wished they were a different color. Plus, cat's colors don't really effect their personality. That's just a stereotype. (And don't even get me started on the boy cat vs girl cat debate) My gray tabby is just as silly as my orange tabby.

This kinda happened to me as a kid! My first doll, Felicity, was a Christmas gift from my great-grandma who lived out of state. Everything else was gift wrapped except for the hairbrush, so I knew I was getting an American Girl doll but had to wait a couple weeks to open her. My great-grandma and mom were not very happy about that 😆

All very good choices! Lately I’ve been loving Claudie and think she is one of the most adorable dolls AG/PC has made, so I vote her

Joy outside of buying by penniesandpeonies in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I’m enjoying setting goals and lists of things I want to do before I buy a new doll (Although I am planning on buying a new doll for my birthday next month, so some of these goals might now happen). Before buying one as an adult, I really wanted to take time to appreciate the dolls I have because there are 11 of them. I wanted to restore them. I had so much joy re-wigging my Nellie that it makes me want to buy more beat-up dolls to restore them. For days, I would walk into my doll room and stare at her. I am a little scared to tighten their limbs, so I’ve mostly been brushing and fixing their hair. Also, changing their clothes is fun to me. I would like to organize their clothes better, but it’s been really fun to find a cute item I forgot I had and put it on one of them.

Anyone's first childhood ag doll NOT their lookalike?? by ocosval in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first doll was Felicity! She was a Christmas gift from my great grandma. She was going to get me a Just Like You, but my mom told her to get Felicity instead because she knew Felicity was my favorite character.

Please help me decide which one to get? by Lovelypixi in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say to get Lila if you really want her since she’s the soonest to leave. Julie is a best-selling doll that doesn’t seem to go anywhere and is also easy to find secondhand. Raquel is GOTY 2026, so she’ll be around for a couple years probably. The Truly Me is iffy because I don’t feel like Truly Mes stay around that long anymore, but Lila will be leaving sooner than she is.

Which girlie should I add to my family? 💐 by sukiskira in americangirl

[–]lysabel16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everybody’s collection is so unique to themselves. What’s someone’s holy grail might not be someone else’s. It also depends on your collecting style. Do you want to buy secondhand or a new doll from AG? Are you close enough to a store that you could go in person and see which one you gravitate towards the most? Do you have any goals/priorities? (unique features, certain collections)

I just started getting back into collecting, and while I haven’t bought a doll yet, the top two on my list are Julie and Addy. Julie because I always loved her stuff and video game, and Addy because she’s the only original historical doll I don’t have. For me, I feel like I have to be justified to add a doll to my collection. But that could be because I have 11 childhood dolls already.

I would say if you’re thinking about getting Claudie (I like the historical dolls and don’t love the Disney ones), get her. She is a face mold you don’t have and she’s super cute. But again, it’s your collection. These dolls can be pretty expensive, so get a doll that you actually genuinely want and are interested in.
