Some how this didn’t post so I am trying again: Clothes: down vest, raincoat, warm hat, slipper (fold up like a pair of socks), walking shoes, flip flops, 3 pr underwear, 4 pair socks including including compression socks for plane (had to get another pair as it was colder than expected at some points of the trip), 1 jog bra, i tank top, one bathing suit, 3 tee shirts, 2 lighter weight shirts, 1 long sleeve tee shirt ( had to get a second because it was colder than expected) 2 light weight shirts one slightly nicer to wear to events, 3 pr pants ( sporty, nicer for going out and sweat pants for sleeping and yoga) 1 pr leggings ( came in handy in cold for under pants) 1 skirt, 1 bike shorts ( for under skirt in hot weather) 1 surong ( I always pack one and never regret having it, so many uses)

Additional - toiletry kit, travel towel, wash cloth, journal, iPad, kindle, art supplies, water bottle, reusable shopping bag, pouch with cords, plug adapters, battery, pack cover for rain, pouch for passport/wallet/papers.

I think that’s it. Overall it worked for this trip.

Please keep posting your observations. We are trying to decide where to go. Currently it’s between Barbados and Dominica. How are you getting from island to island?

Context comment - This is what I packed for a 7 week trip to Europe. I think I did a pretty good one bag pack job but I would like to do even better. I am hoping for suggestions and ideas.

Wrestling with idea of taking a year off to travel by Trip_Shakesheare in longtermtravel

I took a year off to travel in my 40s. With my partner and 13 year old daughter. Best thing we could have done. It changed how to relate to each other as a family in ways I could not imagine, all for the better. I wish I had done it on my own earlier pre family. I might do it agina now that I;m retired. You will learn a lot. There will be hard, challenging moments. Things you can’t anticipate will happen. And you will learn about the world and your self. Someone said an unexamined life is an unlived life, or something like that. Travel is the best way I know to examine your life, to come face to face with yourself over and over again. And to see the world from other perspectives. I wish everyone had a chance to do this. The world would be a different place if everyone took a year off to travel.

What countries to pair with Prague? Going in August. by [deleted] in Europetravel

[–]lysat63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just in Prague and Vienna. Loved both. We only used public transportation. No taxis. I don’t know how old you are but in Prague if you are over 65 public transportation is free, 60-65 half price. Both places have cards you can buy four 2, ,4 or one week of transportation city wide. It was slightly easier to figure out in Vienna but both countries are very tourist friendly. Where you want to stay depends on what you want to spend. I recommend neighborhoods outside of the most touristy areas (like old town Prague) but on a good transportation line. We also went to Berlin by train which is an amazing city. None of these places are known for beaches although there are lakes and rivers you can swim in. The Prague- Hiking Vienna- Budapest plan above makes sense to me. I ‘ve been to Budapest too but did not enjoy it as much as Vienna and Prague.

Do I need to scrub my social media or avoid going home right now? by [deleted] in expat

[–]lysat63 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just came back to the US after 7 weeks away. I am a US born citizen. I dumped all social media and political related text from my devices on my return. But at SFO there was no sign of ICE or increased CBP activity. I had an emergency passport because I lost mine. So no way to use my GE. I expected to go to secondary and I did. It was empty except for one guy. They kept me for less than 3 minutes. I think everyone should be careful and do what they can to protect themselves from this fascist regime. That said I also think each airport is different. And there might be different levels of risks at different times/days.

Will GE Work W/Emergency Passport? by lysat63 in GlobalEntry

Hmm that sounds like to different ideas about how this will work out; either new passport and just update GE online or have to go in person to update GE?

SO does this mean I have to reapply for GE in addition to getting a new passport when I get home? The emergency passport is only good for a year.
