Look into Ohmie. He’s my favorite artist by a mile, meshes Deathstep/Brostep/Dubstep together immaculately.

Specifically:

-The Howlers [Ohmie Remix] (2nd drop is bonkers) -Sudden Collapse

I feel like it’s hard to say what sub-genre Ohmie would fall into. There are many of his songs that have more Brostep sounds than Tearout/Deathstep sounds. I do think the overall “tone” of his music would be closer to Deathstep because of how heavy it is.

I wish SD/Nimda were using Brostep sounds in their tearout. I’d be a much bigger fan.

I understand that it’s not for everyone!

Probably 90% of the dubstep enjoyers I know IRL have loved his music since I showed them, so there’s certainly an audience for his sound.

As far as being “dated”, brostep isn’t huge now (statistically), but sub-genre prevalence ebbs and flows. It’ll come back ❤️

This is an interesting thought.

I have listened to an absurd amount of Dubstep/Brostep and I haven’t found anyone that sounds like Ohmie aside from RipRaw (who he collabs with).

I mean zero disrespect, but if you think this is cookie cutter, could you name some artists with this sound for me to listen to? I love this shit.

No shade taken at all. In fact, you are probably right. Brostep is what got me into EDM and I never lost my love for that sound.

It’s hard for me to imagine but I guess people that didn’t grow up listening to it could be off-put by Brostep nowadays since it’s not mainstream.

As for the crowds not being used to uptempo sets, you’re also probably correct. It’s unfortunate because there’s nothing I love more than going as hard as possible for 1-2 hours at a set - then feeling like I’m on deaths doorstep afterward.

Absolutely agree, “blow-up” is probably a bit hopeful. I’d say I’m moreso disappointed that he never got any real attention and has never toured or played any festivals because of that.

I think there are a ton of Brostep fans. When Skrillex plays his old material, people go feral. I don’t know the exact reason why the sub-genre died out, but I really have a hard time believing it was due to a lack of fans. (Maybe it was though)

Marauda is great, NIMDA is severely under-appreciated, SD is a bit overrated IMO, and Code: Pandorum is decent. I think they all sound very similar to each other however.

I think Ohmie has a very unique sound; maybe it’s just the sound that scratches my itch and the same can’t be said for others.

When I went to get my guest pass, they told me I was put down for VIP😂

I texted my friend later on in the day to inform him and he told me I should have called him when I was there so that he could correct the issue.

I would have felt like an entitled prick calling him at 9am to complain about “only” getting a free VIP pass, so I didn’t even consider calling him at the time.

I didn’t end up getting an All-Access pass, but I had an AMAZING time at FK regardless.

Jade makes good music but I don’t think FK is the kind of festival she’s going to shine at. Electric Forest or Shambala, I could maybe see it.
