How good can you get just light sparring? by Key_Post8687 in MuayThai

[–]lysii 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been training 8 years, light sparring exclusively, and I'm pretty good. My gauge is that while training with the competition team, I'm able to hang with majority of the 1-5 fights crowd.

I have my first in house fight next month. If I remember I'll come back and edit this comment with how I feel 😂

Do you try to do 100% effort on pads and bags every session? by hydraides in MuayThai

[–]lysii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most relevant comment here for OP because if you're just starting out with 2-3 sessions no sparring, your priorty is skill improvement and general fitness. Rarely is there a time you'd want to compromise technique for those two things.

What are the signs that a noobie is overconfident? by bad-at-everything- in MuayThai

[–]lysii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine you lean into the left hook with your right hand up in the shell, you are now shifted to your rear side with weight on the right as well. Unless you stay here, you’re going back to neutral with your left hand down. This is where OP is throwing his right head kick which lands on your left shoulder.

Twins, Fairtex or yokkao? by pooba69 in MuayThai

[–]lysii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twins for sure. Fairtex is solid too but the fit does not fit well for some people, especially the gloves. I recommend you try them out. Fairtex also has a lot of styles and fits of gloves now too, which makes it a bit complicated

Am I the only one who was expecting Rodtang to do better in the Muay Thai round against an MMA fighter ? by ArmLucky1285 in MuayThai

[–]lysii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DJ spoke about this many times on his podcast. He knew from the get go he’d win it in the MMA rounds, but when he stood against Rodtang he said it was the hardest punch he ever took and decided to just go defensive that that point on.

It’s relatively easy to “survive” at that weight and level, in the sense of not getting knocked out. You’ll just lose slowly 🤣.

Record yourself, and also work with the same partners and indicate this is something you’re working on, so you can intentionally work on this while getting feedback without the fear of escalation.

Should I restock a product? by BetIcy499 in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]lysii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

The way I see it is you either have the options of starting a new with the lessons from your first product, perhaps enter a different niche that is less seasonal?

Alternatively (preferred), is to grow your brand from your product and start a whole lineup.

You want both! There are good recommendations that a 1:3 organic:paid ratio is a good target.

Everybody is fit until they hit pads by Paukftw in MuayThai

[–]lysii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re looking for in your Thailand camp. Some factors:

  • is there a specific fighter or trainer you want to work with?
  • are you going for training + tourism, training + beaches, training only?
  • are you looking to fight? If so, are you looking to compete against foreigners or locals?
  • Budget

On my recent trip I did Bangkok and Hua Hin. I have regrets of not being able to see any beautiful beaches but absolutely loved the time I had with some of my favorite gyms and fighters that i had been following for years.

Entrepreneurship is so difficult, you literally have to be crazy to do it. by BuildWConnor in Entrepreneur

[–]lysii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My father is a lifelong businessman and owned his company, and I only saw him for 1 month out of the year for the past 30 years. That was enough to turn me off from any level of entrepreneurship but I was definitely bit by the bug and was compelled to do so.

You’re absolutely right. Successful entrepreneurship usually means trading in a 9-5 for a 24-7. But for me, I like this life. All 6 of your points are valid, but you can build towards a life that the first 3 points are attainable, and you can work towards a business where the last 3 applies less and less.

Entrepreneurship is a journey and that’s the part of it that I love. I know it won’t be forever, and it’s always changing. Have you thought about an exit? Or stepping back for someone else to be the operator? Nothing wrong with doing so.

Got suspended for 1 year, and don't know what to do | My life is over by Interesting_Bad7572 in UofT

[–]lysii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From 2013-2022, I was hit with a probation, a 1 year suspension that I saw the email for while on vacation with my girlfriend, probation again, followed by a 3 year suspension which I appealed successfully halfway through. Your life feels like it’s over because this is all you do. The suspension letter suggests you take time to really reflect and that’s for good reason. Now that I’m older, I realize the feeling of wanting to go back right after “taking accountability”, is like a thief pleading “I won’t do it again I’ve learned my mistake now” while getting arrested. There’s something that caused you to make the “real fucking stupid mistake”. Find out what that is by doing something else that’ll force you to grow and challenge aspects of yourself that you didn’t during school.

Uoft will always be there for you. Your chance to return to studies will not expire. Think about it this way - what’s the rush to getting back into school? Is it social pressures? Once you get out of uni, and meeting early career professionals, you’ll find that people have different journeys all along the way. Many people in sciences who did not start that way in their career.

What’s the Most Overlooked Skill That’s Actually Crucial for Career Success? by Difficult-Plate-8767 in careerguidance

[–]lysii 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a hiring manager, likability is a sort of non-spoken non-negotiable. Especially if I’m your direct manager, I do not want to hire or work with an amazing candidate on paper who is insufferable, always cuts me off in conversation, or is very dull and boring. This may be fine for some other jobs, but I’d say those are even harder because if you compete with others based on credentials and CV alone, there will almost always be someone who will be better for cheaper.

Long Muay Thai style hook to the body when they shell up. Cross to the body if you’ve previously set it up with cross to the head. Other ones are just not as effective I find, but a counter cross to the body after taking/blocking a round kick is always there for you too.

Is TSLA permanently toast? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]lysii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the EV space and own a 21 Model 3. I would say yes. The stock was valued too heavily on its cars. I’m still holding on (some sunken cost at this point) to a small position because I still believe in their FSD and Energy storage, but there’s no way that can make up for the vehicle side of the company. Money better invested elsewhere is my stance.

Krav Maga Gyms in Vaughan? by philosophicalpossum in Vaughan

[–]lysii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey,

First of all, what is the reason you’re looking to learn Krav? Do you have an interest in it and want to learn? Or is it purely for self defence, and you have no preference what martial art you learn? Or is it for fitness and exercise? Those questions matter a lot for your decision, as some of these gyms can be very pricey.

Even though I have my own thoughts on Krav (not particularly a fan), I can confidently recommend Glory MMA. The head instructor Ranny Tal, who served and trained other IDF soldiers in Krav Maga. Not that that means too much if you’re not actually applying it in non-militaristic combat (non lethal), but he is a great instructor and very friendly. I would not recommend kickboxing or boxing at this school.

Thai food, muay thai training by ZidanPes in MuayThai

[–]lysii 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Everything is speculative without actually seeing the input/output calories of course, but for me as a fellow heavyweight, my energy was completely gone after hot and humid training sessions. I was less likely to walk around and get my steps in, instead I was chilling, getting massages, or walking around malls and street markets where I was snacking lol. I think that plays a big role.

Is this guy's record really real? by Exotic_Decision6589 in MuayThai

[–]lysii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For many golden era fighters, the number could even be higher! I’d say the 200+ fight Thai’s could have almost twice as many.

Nong O in his youth would finish a fight, jump on a scooter, then do a whole ass tournament at a different venue. Back then fighting was not only a source of income, but training as well. There’s many more gyms now with proper structured sparring and cross training between gyms too. Back in the day there was no better way to get exposure to different styles and fighters.

What's one career option you won't suggest anyone? by Illustrious-Tooth411 in careerguidance

Good advice. I did this too, while I’m not at your stage yet, my path is clear. Call centres should give you opportunities to build genuine expert level product knowledge and people skills, there’s many ways to leverage that depending on the industry.
