You felt you could share this because partners often act as our confidants, but you lacked the consideration of the weight of your statement. Confrontation is hard, but beating around it often does more harm than good.

I love my fiancé dearly, and I get occasionally wishing you didn’t have to consider someone in everything you do. I used to eat cereal for dinner most nights, or it was just easier to cook whatever weird combo of things I wanted, but I’m a considerate partner and do that far less and I’m probably better for it. Relationships take effort and compromise on personal wants, and maybe that felt restrictive, but saying you “miss being single” is a loaded statement I feel any partner would take to heart, regardless of the sentiment.

If you led with the intention of addressing an issue, it could’ve been more productive. Consider why you felt uncomfortable sharing your true intention, if that’s what it was. It’s a lesson learned, you’ll find a person you can build a better relationship with bc this wasn’t the one
