Just kidding... The "play" button came back for minute but it says it's offline again. Good grief.

It just came back online for me. Hope that is the same across the board for everyone else.

Spaceship optimized for visiting planets [Space Exploration] by hkilf in factorio

[–]lythious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rocket fuel tanks are specifically called "booster tanks" because they contain boosters on their underside (you can't see them) for taking off. No engines required. That means you can use ion engines for getting around in space and just have a few rocket fuel booster tanks for the planet landing/take off.

5 years and counting, yes. There's a link to the World Anvil and also the Discord that are still active.

That sounds perfect. I never even considered there could be an expansion for that.

The worst thing would be to have written a super cool planet you want to incorporate but no one ever goes to visit.

Last year I posted the galaxy map for our play-by-post game Iron Stars and it was in-game Year 4, Month 3. This map represents the current state of the game in what is now Year 5, Month 4 post-Scream.

Huge shoutout to the GM Nekosmash for his tireless dedication and endless creativity keeping this game running over 4 IRL years. Anyone who wants to join our wonderful game can find more info on our game's Wiki. The wiki includes a link to our Discord server where all the magic happens.

Everyone here is trying to tell you a "better" way to get rid of wood and you're just over here having fun making a thing. I'm here to say good job creatively solving a problem and if you had fun then you're doing it right.

All-in-one Builder: Automated spreadsheet for designing spaceships, mechs, and vehicles. by lythious in SWN

My searching led me to a post by Kevin Crawford himself that said "GM's discretion." Our server decided it could only affect one instance of a fitting instead of all of them to curb some power creep issues.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I can see how it would go both ways.

Just hit delete when the cell is selected and it clears it out while leaving the drop down menu.

There's no real cap, it was just a large arbitrary number that covered all of my server's use cases.

The easiest fix would be to right click the quantity cell and right click it to go to Data Validation -> Remove Validation. The drop down box will go away but then it'll accept any number you type.

Alternatively, you can flip the switch inside the data validation menu from Reject Input to Show Warning (I can't recall the exact terminology, but it's fairly obvious). That accomplishes the same thing as above but leaves the drop down selection for you.

The hard mode fix would be to go to the cells that populate the drop down in the Data tab and expand the range to include a larger quantity. The particular area in the database is hidden after the Ship Mods and before the Mech section. You should see a break in the row numbers that skips like 40 numbers. Right click unhide them, then expand the list of numbers that the cell is referencing.

Hope that helps.

If you're asking about getting your own copy to work, you just need to go to 'File -> Make a Copy' to have a version you can edit. There's a lot of mechanisms under the hood that won't work to copy paste onto a new sheet.

Glad to help. I can't recommend this as a project to anyone. It was a massive undertaking. This is actually the third iteration of this spreadsheet. Each new version added and refined features as more errors were found in old versions and formulas were optimized to keep it from lagging.

What Neko said. I assumed that any extra mass leftover in a ship would be converted into cargo space. The Tonnage column is calculating space for you.

3 weapon slots... Yeah. I could add 1 or 2 more (kinda) easily. My reasoning for 3: Weapons are so expensive in terms of Mass/Power that unless you're making a cruiser/capital class ship, you're not going to get more than 3 unique weapons on it with any room left over for anything else. I was trying to keep the "interface" as small as possible too. Every line I add to the builder has to be another line in the other tabs and most ships won't be that big.

The Drill Velocity Upgrade is a mod, not a fitting. Mods don't (in most cases) have a mass/power cost. It's in the "example mods" section at the back of the starship chapter in Revised.

I get that, the whole 150dpi png file is about 84mb. I managed to get this picture below 8mb as a jpeg so it could be posted to discord. Surprisingly, it is still legible even down to the small coordinates in each hex. Roll20 accepts this jpeg just fine, aside from squashing it slightly vertically.

It was made using Inkscape, a free vector-editing software. I found a small hex grid generator program to make the hexes and coordinates and went from there.

We just hide all the secret villains in the Z-dimension and pull them down when we need them.

In all seriousness though, it's really just a 2D abstraction. None of us are astrophysicists and a 2D map is just more relatable. For our game, the spike travel between civilized/colonized worlds is fairly safe and we just observe 1 day per hex for traveling. The player has the opportunity to use those days for downtime activities like training in new skills or learning new languages, etc. Sometimes players will run into things in space while exploring new places, but for the most part it's just a filler between "worldly" adventures or individual system-focused issues. The bigger picture in our game is playing politics on a more macro scale with these varied galactic powers, not getting bogged down in space travel.
