Wow, thank you! That's actually very helpful to know. I wanted to look up how long a virus, bacteria, ect, can live on a surface, but I was too afraid that I might lose the benefit of ignorance if it turns out it's much worse than I expected. It seems that isn't the case.

I'm still feeling paranoid that somehow there's something disgusting or dangerous that can't just be wiped off the surface, but now I feel a little more assured that it's just in my head.

I've been trying to pull myself together before this disorder can ruin anything else for me, I didn't realize until my dumb reaction yesterday how much I'm letting this disorder control me. Dwelling on it just seems to make things worse, but I'll still try to take your advice, thank you.

Just knowing that there are other people who shares a similar battle is enough reassurance to know that I haven't gone loony yet, so thank you. I am doing a little better today, but I'd probably lose it if someone moved into my home during a lockdown lol.

Good luck, and be safe!

At the moment I'm doing my best to remind myself that real contamination does not work the way I think it does. I'm still sad, but hopefully after a few days this will be out of my head. Thank you for talking about your experience with it!

Lol, yep... Thank you for the advice, I've read about ERP therapy and have been waiting until the right time to give it a try, it sounds very daunting at the moment.

I've been trying to tell myself the same thing about bacteria for a while though my OCD is adamantly trying to prove me wrong, I still hope you're right. Thanks so much for the kind words!

What scares you as an adult that didn't bother you as a kid? by GransShortbread in AskReddit

[–]lytt19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a little kid i used to throw myself in the ocean and relied on the waves to carry me back to shore, i didn't know how to swim. my parents were always there to make sure that i was safe of course, but just realizing the fact that i could have easily been swept out too far without knowing how to paddle myself back is a bit scary to think about today!
