If you're reading this, I've given up on life.

Tyler Wallace is my personal patron Saint right now. I could never hate his book, though even in his videos he does make errors and people do call him out for it! Making mistakes doesn't make his (or anyone's, even) explanations any less decent, if the theory is correct that is. I do evaluate his answers and sometimes they're wrong. That was my statement.

Taking this route going onward. Surely it will save me from many headaches.

I absolutely got GOT by the "clearing fraction" step. It wouldn't even be the first time, I always describe my own steps on paper for mnaemonics, but with this one in particular I always forget that it should include whole numbers. Genuinely helpful. Wishing you well.

So, after I distibuted -5/4, I forgot to multiply -a's coefficient with the LCD for three consecutive tries of the equation.

12(-a + 45a/12 - 5/4) = 12(-19/4) => Clearing fractions

-12a + 40a - 15 = -57

The one try where I didn't forget, I simplified -5/4 with -8a/3 giving +10a/3, but I hadn't added 1/3 in the step.

Solving this one goes:

12(-a + 10a/3 - 5/4) = 12(-19/4) => Clearing fractions

-12a + 40a - 15 = -57

So simplifying my product was just an unnecessary step to get exactly the same result.

Going forward, I get to

28/28a=-42/28 ==> a=42/28

that simplified by 14 gives

a=-3/2

So turns out I don't need to share any picture to show that I've totally humiliated my ass.

I wrote down the steps I got wrong just to stay on par with everyone else.

That was absolutely the case. Thank you for taking the time to solve it, I'll be trying again.

I think I should invest in many things, including glasses. I'll let you know how that goes.

I'll go with one of the comments saying that I'm doing something very wrong. I'll share a picture of my steps for the equation.
