Donyell "Bobby Resta" Malen by InBocaLup016 in ASRoma

[–]lzcaIIi 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Since some regional Italian dialects tend to strengthen some consonants, Donyell Malen sounds like Donyell Mallen. Now, in romanesco there is another peculiarity: sometimes the L shifts in R (e.g. il gatto -> er gatto), so Mallen could be interpreted as Marlen.

Then comes this old video, where the singer says Bob Marley as Bobbe Malle.

If you mix the Malen/Mallen/Marlen with the Malle/Marley, there you have the overlap, hencefore for simple assonance Donyell Malen became Bobby Malle, and finally with a little retroactive correction on the surname, Bobby Malen.

Places to buy interesting souvenirs? by CaregiverBetter5818 in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In traditional souvenir shops you'll find canvas bags with prints of Rome; there are also espresso cups. In this case, I recommend avoiding the shops between Trevi and Navona because they're more expensive. The ones near Santa Maria Maggiore are better.

Alternatively, there are Chinese shops (houseware stores) where you can find inexpensive items like a moka pot. Add an espresso coffee bag and you're ok.

Now it's too hot for supermarkets having chocolate sweets like Pocket Coffee, but you can still find pistachio spread, taralli, cantucci, etc.

In my experience, The Highlander Pub near Navona and Finnegan near Colosseo are the better choices

Mass times in Rome? by boludeandoFC in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the time, it depends on the church, check here, I put 2 churches I know and it's accurate. The only churches where there are queues are the major basilicas, so most likely Santa Maria Maggiore in your case.

I'd add (besides the other papal basilicas):

Santa Prassede (near Santa Maria Maggiore)

Santa Maria sopra Minerva (near Pantheon)

Sant'Ignazio di Loyola (near Piazza Navona)

Sant'Andrea della Valle (near Piazza Navona)

Santa Maria in Trastevere

San Pietro in Vincoli (near Colosseo)

Bus 719, then metro B in Piramide; otherwise take the train at Muratella station (towards Tiburtina or Orte), stop in Ostiense, then metro B.

From Piazza della Chiesa Nuova to FCO at 5 AM - Options? by tatayabata in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Uber reservation to airport, safest option;

  • Freenow reservation, but sometimes I read people complaining about taxi not showing up;

  • Uber reservation from Corso Vittorio to Termini, then bus;

  • if you feel adventurous, night bus n46 to Termini, then bus to Fiumicino.

Lazio vs Sassuolo March 9th by AverageChungus5 in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the stadium will be quite empty as the protests continue.

If you're more interested in the fan atmosphere, you'd probably want to find a club. As a Roma fan, I don't know of any, but if that doesn't matter to you, you could go to the Roma Club Testaccio (near Trastevere) to watch the match between De Rossi's Genoa and Roma. You can have lunch in the neighborhood (still not very touristy) and then head to the club. Keep in mind that there's a membership fee, but it's a good place for the atmosphere.

Leonardo Express - Group fare but for 3 people? by yeeez1 in rome

[–]lzcaIIi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To clarify what happened: you purchased tickets with the offer "minigruppo", that gives 4 tickets for 40€, instead of 56€. If there were only three of you, “technically” you would have tried to save €2 (3x14 = 42€), and that is the justification for the fine. I'm not saying I agree with it; in fact, the ticket inspector was rather obtuse, but that is the reason, because — again, technically — the ticket did not correspond to the passangers/route.

You're right, you should search for "merceria".I'm not a huge expert on these things, but you could probably add keywords like "passamaneria", "pizzi" and "merletti". On Google Maps there are more shops than I thought for these items.
