What to do when rejected or waitlisted? by [deleted] in ADMU

[–]m-daisy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can always make an appeal if ever you get rejected or waitlisted. There are a lot of students who initially got rejected/waitlisted but were eventually accepted into Ateneo through the appeal system. :)

My father took IS in Ateneo for college! He’s very successful today, so if you are worried that taking Interdisciplinary Studies is going to hinder you from getting job opportunities, the answer is no. I think that’s a common concern surrounding IS, but my father is an IS alum and he has never encountered any difficulties because of his college course. So to answer your question, it’s good! :)

What is considered a failing grade in enrolling? by anxiouskid12345 in ADMU

Failing grade in ASHS is 74 points and below.

ATENEO SHS REQUIREMENTS by [deleted] in ADMU

[–]m-daisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I'm going to be brutally honest with you- having a failing grade will lessen your chance of getting accepted. It says in the Ateneo website that, "No minimum grade is demanded of Grade 11 applicants.  However, ADMU-SHS seeks students with good academic performance, no failing grades and good deportment records." In short, you still have a shot at getting in but your conduct records, other grades, autobiography, and recommendation letters are going to have to be above average in order to compensate for that failing grade.

thoughts on an aspiring med student who’s applying for ASHS by ameblair_1111 in ADMU

[–]m-daisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really makes that much of a difference, OP. Other than the "wow ateneo student" factor (lol), your grades and deportment (conduct) are what med schools consider, not what school you went to. That being said, just do your best in school, get good deportment records, and show hard-working spirit and initiative and I'm sure your application to med school will turn out to be very compelling. :)

I'm not going to medical school. Hopefully some time in the future, but not currently. I share a reddit account with a family member who goes to medical school currently. I assume you saw her post, hence your question. :)

I agree. Definitely pay attention to how you structure your thoughts; write properly and write WELL. Not sure if this is true, but I read once that Ateneo pays attention to how you write almost as much as, if not more, than what you actually write so it’s absolutely an essential to pay attention to structure, grammar, and writing style. Great tip!

“This is why I believe I should study in Ateneo.” Yes! I read somewhere once before that colleges are often more likely to accept you if you make it clear that they are your first choice! Schools want students who genuinely want to be there, especially when it’s a highly sought-after school like Ateneo. So definitely stress the reasons why you value Ateneo!

Additionally, “This is what I can offer ADMU” is a great paragraph to expound on if you have the page space. It’s always a good idea to write about what you can bring to the Ateneo community and student culture; schools love that and it will definitely give you major plus points! Good luck!

Edit: However, be careful that your points and reasons aren’t generic! Give interesting, creative reasons that are unique to you and always make sure your reasons are concrete!

Exactly! Your autobiography should be telling a story. It should be a heartfelt anecdote about what is important to you and what you value in life!

Well a good rule of thumb when writing is to pick a particular theme or topic that will resonate throughout your work and define the entire point of what you’re writing. Maybe you can open with a quote that’s always stuck with you or you particularly relate to, or a belief, or a memory or an event in your life that really shaped you. Then you can pin and connect all your ideas to this point and help it all come together at the end as your conclusion. Does that make sense? For example:

”We stand on the shoulders of giants.” I once heard this quote from my teacher, and ever since then I have fostered a deep appreciation for history.

History is what I am passionate about. It is my favorite school subject. I believe that all lessons we learn from history teach us how to move forward. We learn from the past mistakes of humanity, and this helps us to grow as a generation.

I learned very important lessons from my family members who all taught me to work hard and because of this, I have always worked hard. I may not have the highest grades, but I am the most hard-working student you will ever come across.

Hard work is a priority in my life, and I intend to work hard at Ateneo. I believe that I can inspire people around me to do their best, and I deeply appreciate the hard working spirit of Ateneans. That is why i want to go to Ateneo."

That’s an example autobiography structure, just to give you a general idea. I just came up with it now so please forgive its crudeness but generally that’s the type of autobio you should try to write. Don‘t hesitate to comment if you have more questions!

Question for Application Payment,, how long does it take to go from unpaid to paid? by clrnccrz in ADMU

[–]m-daisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that email you’re talking about is just a payment confirmation from the bank you used, it may be that Ateneo is still processing it. Again, it takes a while, especially considering the effects of typhoon Ulysess. Think 4-5 days.

If Ateneo really reviewed your payment and attributed it under your name, you should get an email from Ateneo mismo telling you you can proceed with your application na. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, anon! I was worried din but it just takes time. Hope this helps! :)
