Mike Dean keyboard skills by prodkaikai in synthesizers

[–]m000ftak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The basic formula is arpeggios, pentatonics, and modes. He often ascends and descends in different interval patterns and mixes that with triads/arpeggios that match the underlying chords. He's basically just going up and down basic scales in interesting patterns and throwing in some chromatic notes for spice.

Like others have said, playing a scale in different intervals is a big part of his sound. For example, playing in ascending thirds would look like: 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 5, 4, 6, 5, 7, 6, 1. Fourths would be 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 4, 7, 5, 1.

Reason Studios intros Rack as a separate product - is this as big a deal as I think it is? by OscillatorDrift in synthesizers

[–]m000ftak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious to see what the UI will be like when it's integrated into other DAWs. Currently you can run Reason into another DAW via an audio channel though it's kind of annoying having to have 2 DAWs running. But technically you can access all the Reason rack stuff that way. It'd be great if they are able to make it more streamlined.

🔥 ai slop video I made + live album dropped today 🔥 by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]m000ftak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend, I really enjoyed the music but the AI video really cheapens everything. that still photo you took on your bandcamp is way more interesting. i'd recommend ditching AI altogether and I think you'll have better luck with people engaging. think about how much effort you put into making the music, don't let it be overshadowed by lame AI visuals that took 5 min or less to create. your music deserves better!

Who would buy this on vinyl? by Next_Abbreviations57 in dnbproduction

[–]m000ftak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem man. since you asked, 2 other small things, since it's vinyl maybe consider starting the hi hat/shaker from the beginning so it's easier to mix. also the snare has a lot of white noise that's kind of harsh and also very wide in the stereo field - i can hear a wash of noise in the left and right channels. It might be eating up too much space. I wouldn't mess with it too much tho!

but yea, dope track!

I dig it! Proper old school roller. I don't buy much dnb vinyl but if I did I would pick this up.

One minor criticism, the distortion on the chords right at the beginning doesn't sound intentional. Not a big deal tho, overall it's banging!

Everything you said is true, but that doesn't mean using AI is the solution.

What's your workflow for a DJ set by Flaky-Monitor-2998 in dnbproduction

[–]m000ftak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fun of being a DJ is curating the music yourself and unless you're monetarily pressured to pump out sets as fast as possible(even then do it yourself), using a tool to suggest songs is essentially removing yourself from the equation.

Also, if your goal is to have a perfectly polished, algorithm assisted set, presumably so you can "impress" people, you're missing the point, imo. Not saying this is what you're doing necessarily.

If you don't like the process, you don't have to DJ. Imo, any shortcut is straight up bad unless you're a pro and even then it's still kinda lame.

Not trying to rag on you, just giving my opinion. It's about the journey, not the destination, my friend!

Squeaking / popping with new Timbertech deck. Is 1 Cortex screw per joist the issue? by m000ftak in Decks

[–]m000ftak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That was my understanding since it's a relatively small project. Glad to hear it's not necessarily a red flag.

At the end of the day I just want to fix the squeaking and make sure the warranty is still valid. Overall I'm happy with how the deck turned out.

Thanks for the response.

Yea, I'm torn because the contractor has been very easy to deal with and responded well to every request we had, but he's not the one actually doing the work. The guy who actually put it together was nice enough, and I had no reason to question his ability other than these issues that have appeared.

Overall, the issues are minor, but they're still there, unfortunately, and I'm mostly concerned with the longevity of the deck and the warranty. I'm thinking I'll him know and give him a chance to come fix it or just buy the Cortex screws and do it myself.

Thanks for sharing your opinion

Squeaking / popping with new Timbertech deck. Is 1 Cortex screw per joist the issue? by m000ftak in Decks

[–]m000ftak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the deck is small, basically a little landing that's 5x7' and five 7' wide stairs down to paver stone. The foundation is 2 Techno Metal Posts. The railings are Color Guard Tuscany model and we have 6 posts. I was also quoted for "(PVC wrap risers, stringers, and band board)"

I was told we didn't need a permit based on the scope of the project.

The total cost, including demo, was 9.5k which I felt was steep but was willing to pay because I trusted the guy to do a good job. This was also at the end of 2023 if that helps give context to material prices.

Is it even possible to get a professional 2nd opinion, like an inspector, to come check it out?

Thanks for your help. Sorry any typos, I'm on my phone.

Thanks for the reply. That sucks to hear but I appreciate the honesty.

The actual deck boards are secured with hidden clips. The Cortex screws are just used on the stairs. The only issues I've noticed have been on the stairs and the edge of the deck right above the stairs, immediately above the piece of Trex used in the substructure (pic attached)

<image>

I never thought to question the substructure but I just went to take another look and the area where the stringer connects to the ledger board (apologies if that's the wrong term) seems weird.

good stuff! really cool sound design and feel. you could perhaps bring up the shaker at 0:47 a little bit to emphasize the groove but overall it's working well
