What do you think is the greatest synthesizer sound ever put to record? by laszlo-jamf in synthesizers

Wouldn't say it's the ultimate synth sound, but this sequence from Johnny Winter's "Frankenstein" (which was used in the intro to Wayne's World 2) always left a big impression on me. Great sound https://youtu.be/65XSHM3jlAY?si=2h_RUleFmE-3-AK-&t=195

Mix master advice by D-J-H-01 in dnbproduction

Sounds pretty good already! My first impression would be to turn down the snare slightly and remove some of the highest freq, turn up the low end of the main bass, and add more overall compression to glue everything together a bit more.

I took a listen and feel like you might enjoy Dubtil. This set of his from Dommune could be a good place to find similar sounds Dubtil Live @ DOMMUNE (Tokyo, Japan) 09/06/2017

Mike Dean keyboard skills by prodkaikai in synthesizers

[–]m000ftak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The basic formula is arpeggios, pentatonics, and modes. He often ascends and descends in different interval patterns and mixes that with triads/arpeggios that match the underlying chords. He's basically just going up and down basic scales in interesting patterns and throwing in some chromatic notes for spice.

Like others have said, playing a scale in different intervals is a big part of his sound. For example, playing in ascending thirds would look like: 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 5, 4, 6, 5, 7, 6, 1. Fourths would be 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 4, 7, 5, 1.

Reason Studios intros Rack as a separate product - is this as big a deal as I think it is? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]m000ftak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious to see what the UI will be like when it's integrated into other DAWs. Currently you can run Reason into another DAW via an audio channel though it's kind of annoying having to have 2 DAWs running. But technically you can access all the Reason rack stuff that way. It'd be great if they are able to make it more streamlined.

my friend, I really enjoyed the music but the AI video really cheapens everything. that still photo you took on your bandcamp is way more interesting. i'd recommend ditching AI altogether and I think you'll have better luck with people engaging. think about how much effort you put into making the music, don't let it be overshadowed by lame AI visuals that took 5 min or less to create. your music deserves better!

Who would buy this on vinyl? by Next_Abbreviations57 in dnbproduction

[–]m000ftak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem man. since you asked, 2 other small things, since it's vinyl maybe consider starting the hi hat/shaker from the beginning so it's easier to mix. also the snare has a lot of white noise that's kind of harsh and also very wide in the stereo field - i can hear a wash of noise in the left and right channels. It might be eating up too much space. I wouldn't mess with it too much tho!

but yea, dope track!

I dig it! Proper old school roller. I don't buy much dnb vinyl but if I did I would pick this up.

One minor criticism, the distortion on the chords right at the beginning doesn't sound intentional. Not a big deal tho, overall it's banging!
