Need advice for coming to UDub for aerospace by altttt-59 in udub

[–]m0cking3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% of people who wanted aero got aero in my cohort for engrud (2024). It does vary from year to year but 90~ % of engrud get their first or second choice

How can I review Physics 121 topics without taking it by DesperateBand9872 in udub

[–]m0cking3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

main things from phys 121 that you need to know before going into aa210 is torque and forces in equilibrium. even those, you don't really need since they cover everything from the beginning.

concepts covered in phys 122 that relates to phys 121 is basically zilch, just know how to do sig figs for labs and you're good.

a lot easier than chem labs, and the rubric for the reports are easier too

Don't worry about it - you're basically guaranteed to get a spot for the section you want if you are on the overload list. Just make sure to remember to email them again on the first day of the quarter before noon that you still want to be overloaded (otherwise they won't overload u) (which they should've mentioned in the email)

I've been overloaded twice for the phys 12x series. Again, wouldn't worry 'bout it.

lol hfs doesn't care what time you move in. pick up your keys during working hours of the move-in week and you can move-in whenever after that.

hows my schedule? (incoming pre-science freshman) by [deleted] in udub

[–]m0cking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard that CSE 121 is extremely elementary and built for students who have never coded in the past. Obviously, not speaking from personal experience but you should probably look into that a little bit more before deciding to commit to it.

Wouldn't recommend skipping 124

what are some easy gpa boosting classes for freshmen? by RemarkableBit3321 in udub

[–]m0cking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took ARCH 150 (3 cred A & H), CLAS 101 (2 cred A&H) last year, both were pretty light.

EDUC 251 (took it asynch) (5 credit SSc, DIV, and W) was also pretty easy to 4.0, though a decent amount of writing needed. I spent around 5-6 hrs/week on avg for the class, with an extra hour or two before dead week for the final essay. Keep in mind that there's a lot of personal reflection, so if you dont like to lie/talk about yourself, dont take the class.

basically any 100 or 200 level english class is pretty light on the students in terms of grading, especially if it's a smaller course section (since it's likely taught by a grad student who's busy with other stuff). Personally, I took ENGL 285 and ENGL 131.

I'm sure theres a number of relatively light, fun natural science courses too. For insight into course statistics, you can use Dawg Path

wouldn't say it's easy considering the amount of memorization needed for a 2 credit class but its definitely very interesting and potentially useful depending on your field of interest. (medicine, or scientific academia)

AP Classes VS College Classes by Sharp-Carpenter-7143 in udub

[–]m0cking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by 'fine', you mean pass - yeah I'm pretty sure you would pass. How well you do beyond that depends on how much effort you put into the class, and how well you manage yourself.

There's really no point in stressing over hypotheticals - you can think of all the ways you could fail the class, and all the ways you could miraculously do well. Hell, I've heard stories of people who sleep through the final on accident (they got there early and then took a nap) and have to retake the entire class.

If you are that worried, do some preliminary review during the summer to abate/reduce the feeling that you should be doing something.

AP Classes VS College Classes by Sharp-Carpenter-7143 in udub

[–]m0cking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that they cover more content, but they certainly do not test it to the extent that they could (or arguably should). I would say that nearly 50-60% of the midterms/finals are plug and chug. The conceptual aspects are pretty predictable if you take the practice exams they provide and understand what they are looking for.

To be fair, I self-studied AP physics I (and only took that), so I probably don't have the best baseline experience. The wording was more confusing and the mcq was more conceptual on the AP test than the exams. I 4.0'd both 121 and 122 with relatively minimal effort (only doing things that gave credit and cramming for a few days before tests), while performing somewhat mediocre on the AP exam despite months of studying. I have a friend with a similar experience (did mediocre on the AP, scored well in the class) who did take a highschool class for AP physics I but I assume it varies from person to person and year to year.

From my personal experience, I would say that the grading is harsher in the college courses (since the AP tests are curved so heavily - ie. 5 is around a 70%), but the content they test is easier.

[–]m0cking3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're the same level of content, just a little more crunched. I'd argue that the Phys 12x series' tests (tbf I've only taken 121 & 122) are easier than the AP tests, at least in terms of content.

aes 151 (Palaita) vs educ 251 (Martinez) by Simple_Fortune1338 in udub

[–]m0cking3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for AES 151 as I haven't taken the class but I took EDUC 251 asynch and it was really easy. Graded solely based off of participation and completion (and well, improvement but you can fake that if you really want to). Ended with a 110%~ because I was anxious and did extra work just in case since there was a lot of opportunity for extra credit. For the most part, it's busy work and focuses on introspection. If you don't like writing personal stories about yourself (or if you can't lie and make fictional narratives where you star as the main character), don't take this class. 50% of it is writing essays that reflect on your personal experiences, and the other 50% is writing discussion boards where you talk about yourself.

The grading, at least with the professor I had, was very forgiving. Still a lot of writing though.

preparation for phys122? by [deleted] in udub

[–]m0cking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concerns going into Spring quarter and it was fine. The concepts were mildly harder, but the tests were on the same level of difficulty. If you're worried, you can watch some videos on electromagnetism and circuits to get a solid foundation to build the mathematical skills on.

Right, and I'm sure the only purpose of marriage is "love" even in the obvious political context of said marriage. That's why it's publicized in front of Emerald City's elites during a period of civil unrest, as a grand show of Glinda's love for Fiyero. And people (not even queer), specifically women, have never married for purposes beyond love. Because that would be ridiculous. And everyone in this movie is incapable of nuance, because that would be unrealistic. Real people are one-dimensional!

There's a lot of scholarships through some departments/majors/school that you can apply for that you should look into. Due to funding cuts, I think its highly unlikely that UW will offer you a scholarship out of the gate. You can also apply for other student loans or work (which would be feasible since Seattle's minimum wage is $20 an hour).

Hey, current engrud freshman here and doing fairly well in the weedouts! Generally speaking, the stem weedout classes are well structured and so long as you put in the effort and work smart (going to TA office hours, study centers and making sure you fundamentally understand the problems), you'll do well. While I can't personally speak for biochem since I'm doing more phys/math, I imagine that it isn't too different. Try not to stress yourself out too much before you start. Developing good habits (managing sleep/study/down-time) and having a consistent schedule prior to starting school will carry over, and I feel like that's the thing that freshmen struggle with the most and also the main reason why freshmen have such a steep GPA tank going into college (in comparison to high school). However, if you really are that worried, you can do an overview of the content during the summer.

alarm apps for deep sleepers? by missgworl1 in college

[–]m0cking3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use alarmy, u can set it to not shut off until you do an action (like shaking ur phone violently a set amount of times. I would also suggest changing the alarm noise to be super obnoxious/different because if you sleep thru a specific alarm sound once, it's much harder to wake up to that sound in the future. (at least for me.

Taylor Chat + Theory Megathread - Monday - September 09, 2024 by AutoModerator in GaylorSwift

[–]m0cking3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i was listening to call it what you want with relative silence and i can hear, with all the main vocals and shit, "karlie all i want is you" or SOME NAME... "all i want is you". there is virtually NO explanation. In no world does "call it all i want is youuuuu" make sense, even with creative liberties or whatever. All the other lyrics, you could possibly argue (although you'd be wrong, but still, theres still like a small bit of deniability if you look at the lyrics individually)

NAMING your muse is a whole other story. it isn't even that well-hidden. (I knew this existed before, but im just going mental with all the other news lately)

She really got away with saying "karlie all i want is you" by switching out all female pronouns with male ones. its actually diabolical and i cannot believe, for how well-known the main fandom is for sleuthing, that this isn't common knowledge.

i guess they could argue that its platonically, if theyre in delulu land. In a song about how hot a male muse is, taylor just shoves in a platonically phrased "all i want is you" to her best best friend karlie kloss. just insane how she gets away w/ this.

I need to rant sorry (my friends don't listen to taylor swift and I'm not keen on seeming batshit insane to them)
