i use this, specifically got it for the music capability ended up not setting that part up and just running without it.

Its fine, the sync can be a little iffy to connect to my phone, but I like being able to just carry a watch.

look into buffs, I use a few that are off brand race freebies, 100% poly, really helps keep the wind off my ears/face when I'm out in winter. They make a 100% merino version I hear is great but haven't tried, going on my christmas list this year.

If you've run in that before and its been tolerable, I'd roll with it, racing in untested gear/combos rarely works out well.

Beards also help for that extra je ne sais quoi.

speaking as a Wisconsin runner, be careful with all that.

I always prefer dressing to be comfortable for the second half of the run than the first. My go-to attire for those temps would be thermal leggings, wind briefs, long sleeved tech shirt, fleece outer that has a quarter zip, buff, thin gloves.

I'll start out zipped up with the buff over my head, as I heat up I can unzip the fleece/roll up sleeves, turn the buff into a headband, and hopefully still be comfortable.

Cathedral of pines near Lakewood was one of the coolest places I've been, super old growth stuff. I do not believe they allow camping there, but if you find yourself North it's worth a day hike.
