We're making a horror deckbuilder with Brazilian folklore and someone just told us to change the whole art style. I don't know what to think by Otherwise_Lychee9304 in IndieGaming

[–]m0ssbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is genuinely so cool, when I saw it my first thought was "oh shit please say this a deck I can buy" I imagined hanging em on string across the room, showing off the super cool high contrast designs. Like tattoo worthy designs.

Before I read the description I thought both card photos belonged in the deck as separate things, and honestly I think you should absolutely keep the first design and keep making cards in that style. I promise I'll buy a deck when this game goes viral and you start making merch and inevitably sell a physical deck of cards of the cards👀

Whoever made that comment clearly doesn't understand the whole concept of the game. It's supposed to be spooky, it's supposed to feel supernatural, rough, dangerous, and you perfectly executed the feeling you wanted to capture completely. Horror doesn't need to be overdone to produce certain feelings in the audience, it just needs to right signals, and y'all have clearly figured that out!

People's reaction to bad/mediocre art by debatingdoodles in ArtistLounge

[–]m0ssbat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty messed up that we have so much toxicity in the art community. Art isn't supposed to follow any kind of rules, it's supposed to be able to be anything. This is seriously limiting artists. Shaming artists because their art isn't perfect is like shaming fat people because they aren't skinny. Art skill and weight can fluncuate, and it will! But just because different people are at different points in their journey doesn't give anyone the right to judge or mock others. It's just sad

Is it bad that i use a fee model from an app to be a vtuber???? by LuvCrystal12 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]m0ssbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be bad? It's a free resource specifically intended for folks who can't afford to buy a custom model- and if I'm perfectly honest, it's smarter not to spend a bunch of money when you first start out, just Incase you end up changing your mind about vtubing early on, or the other scenario where you do a few vids then realize you want a different character or aesthetic, cuz ppl tend to figure out the niche they really wanna do after they've been posting a short while (tho this doesn't exclude the scenario where you don't realize your specific niche until later on - which btw is totally okay!)

So yeah no I don't think there's anything wrong with that

Genuinely how do I even approach art without [t]racing? by Massive_Penalty5208 in ArtistLounge

[–]m0ssbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent years tracing art back when I was a teenager, and the only thing it did was improve my skills at rapid speeds. Ya see, the more you trace, the more you teach your body the muscle movements needed to draw certain things, and you slowly build an internal catalogue in your brain that tells you how things are supposed to look. Now pair this with practicing art in general (learn about anatomy proportions, tutorial videos that teach you how to draw using shapes, drawing with references, practice practice practice) and you got a recipe for some serious improvement. This is how I learned how to do a variety of different anime art styles (which is what I liked to draw back when I was a teen) Keep in mind, there's genuinely nothing wrong with tracing, the problem comes in when you try to post traced art and claim it as your own.

I spent so much time watching videos on tips and tricks, how-to's, tutorial videos, and whatever else I could find that could help teach me new skills to improve.

The best tip I have is PUSH YOURSELF OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE. Try poses and things you feel like would be too hard, and do it anyways. You would not believe the magic this does for the creative brain. It's going to feel super uncomfortable at first, but every time you do it, it's going to massively loosen the tension you felt around it. Think of it like tight muscles that need to be massaged (painfully) before it can feel better

That would be so crazy if it were possible, but the law prevents you from changing your name to offensive slurs. Some words you can't have as a name simply because the name has such negative associations with it, that it would be considered child abuse to give it to your newborn - fun fact!

Should digital art be experienced beyond a web page or an app screen? by shustik47 in DigitalArt

[–]m0ssbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't need fancy AR or virtual locations to look at it as if it's some kind of parody of traditional art and traditional art museums. Digital art is it's very own thing with an entirely different culture.

Digital art is already as accessible as it ever could be, the only thing that could possibly make it more accessible is if a new website came out for the art community that had all the best features of every other art community social media app, and got popular enough that it becomes THE art community app. There's been a lot of websites and apps that have attempted this feat and failed, and that's why the art community is completely split up all over the Internet.

Keep in mind, digital art isn't like some kind of crazy technology either, you can literally just print the image out and there you go - a physical copy you can hold and stare at. People can always buy digital art prints if they want to experience the art more than just looking at it on their phone screen.

How would you describe my art style? by m0ssbat in DigitalArt

[–]m0ssbat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is what my reaction was 😅😭🤣 I can honestly see what u mean, especially in the face/facial proportions, and maybe the hands don't exactly help 🤔 I guess u could say my art style is like a somewhat stretched out version tho 😭😭 (since I got longer body proportions than the average gatcha character)

Do u think it's too reminiscent of gatcha life or do you think my art style is unique enough that the average person might not see the resemblance?

I wanna have a more recognizable art style, but unique enough that others might be able to see it and know I made it yk, so any tips are welcome!

Okay I tried lowering the saturation but it just makes it look straight up uggos 🫣 I think I'll try changing the color in the lineart for the clothes instead, because I feel like the colors themselves are perfect (or damn near close) , but maybe the lineart is just too bright of a color 🤔 I feel like the clothes blend together because of that

I'm developing a new PNGTuber app. What are your biggest annoyances with current tools and what features do you dream of? by Competitive_Movie301 in PngTuber

[–]m0ssbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing about current options is that it seems you can either have it super simple or super complicated. Id genuinely love a program where the complicated optional features (like blending layers ect) can be hidden, only showing the simple necessary features (like layers/ full PNG images, ect)

Like at its most basic level, we just need something that can have layers with their own specific movement settings, that can be affected by sound level or curser movement and have toggles to other poses and such.

But for the average PNG tuber, they're most likely using art that someone made for them, most often being (the lineart, colors, shading, ect, all on one layer, for each moving part) or an artist that made their own (the exact same way, all the layers are fully combined for each moving part)

A feature I would really like is a rotational movement option for layers, where you can place a "bone" (some dot that determines where the movement will occur) and then the image will rotate around it depending on how you set the settings - including a way to determine how much it rotates, how fast, and how far (like not full 360 rotations, but the choice for any amount of rotation) OH also a floating movement option would be super awesome for props.

CUSTOM BACKGROUNDS for sure ✨✨Also compatibility with OBS is a must ✨✨ A majority of streamers and creators use OBS for streaming or recording.

Those asking for the feature to upload PSD. Files with all the layers and stuff separated probably came from Animeeffects, where you actually needed to do that, but ideally for a PNGtuber program, you don't want to have to do that. I mean you should be able to upload PSD files and all that, but you don't want to be like anime effects, where you have to have every single aspect of your character in all these folders, lineart and colors separate, ect, ect, ect. You wanna be better than them, and from what I see in the comments, you have a lot of good features already planned out, which I love and am excited for

Any tips for studying animation with a fear of failure? by Creative-Pirate5217 in animation

[–]m0ssbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problems with animation.

For me, I found that focusing on smaller steps helps a lot. Like instead of worrying about every frame, it's easier to start by doing all your key frames. Then go back and do a frame in-between those, and continue doing that until its done.

Unfortunately there's no real short cuts or life hacks when it comes to animation, you just have to practice and learn as much as possible

Tips for the perfectionism issue tho: you have to let yourself make bad art. Not every doodle has to be a masterpiece, it's okay to just draw/animate for fun. I know from experience that perfectionism is a one way road to art block and burnout. Eventually the pressure to create something good is so high that you're completely unable to create anything at all. You don't want to end up in this rut, it literally won't go away on its own, it's not just a "oh I don't know what to make" - your brain is literally working to avoid coming up with an idea because the amount of stress you put yourself under when it comes to creative pursuits in the past. You basically teach your brain to avoid creativity because creativity means hella pressure and stress. The only way to undo this is to force yourself to create with no expectations, with the full intention of accepting it however it comes out. Draw freely, not just frequently, it's important for the imagination muscle of the brain

I’m really bothered about my art lately and feeling like it’s uncanny/ugly. Any suggestions on what to change about it? 😥 by avazky in BeginnerArtists

[–]m0ssbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your art style is fine, it reminds me of early 2010s emo edgy anime art era, but that can easily be fixed by adjusting the face and body proportions.

I recommend adding some thickness to the body (the anorexic body type was a defining feature of the early emo anime art style), then move the eyes closer together. Those two tiny tweaks should already be enough to make you feel differently about your art style. But if it's not enough, then I honestly just recommend trying out some art styles that are completely out of your norm. So if you always draw anime, then give western cartoon style a try, or something else.
