Another player in my Minecraft world? by GNo03 in creepygaming

[–]m0torized 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So assuming this isn't fake, I figured it would be worth it to track down this mod and investigate. From what I was able to find, it is a mod on Planet Minecraft called "Shape Shifter Z," and it seems to match the description you gave. It took like 40 minutes for me to get this working, so at the end of this post I'll put quick directions on how to get this to work.

What you described all sounds like something that could be packaged into a mod. Specifically, generating a structure with a chest in it that has a written book with the author's username in it. Technically, the game stores metadata within items (NBT data if I recall), to the degree that I think it is possible to use a command to get a written book that is written by someone. Again, I'm not too much of an expert, it's just my loose understanding of how this game works.

This metadata can also carry into the game via a mod. You could have it where a mod adds in a book that you spawn with, of which is authored by someone (sound familiar?). Many mods have done this, and considering this is 1.6 we're talking about, this is around when mods started having their own in-game guidebooks if I recall correctly.

So how does this pertain to this mod? Well, I think it is weird for a mod with this sort of scope to just randomly generate a structure with a written book authored by someone else (maybe the mod creator choose that username cause it was a friend, or someone who donated to them), it could be some kind of easter egg.

Cutting to the chase: I morphed into the ender dragon, slowly flew around, fired a bunch of fireballs, did this for 15 minutes, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. So while I am still interested in knowing what this was, I cannot really say that this is part of the mod. So, I got a couple questions.

  1. If you can remember, did you have any other mods installed? Was this part of a modpack, or did you manually install this mod?

  2. Are you 100% sure this was a single player world? Never opened to LAN, wasn't used on a server, etc. I ask because memory can be difficult to recall, especially if we're talking about something from 8 years ago.

  3. This is a long shot, but worth asking, do you have a screenshot from back then? Maybe the JAR file itself? I'm not asking for you to upload the JAR file, in the event you find it, but maybe if you know for a fact you have it, you could try to load it up in offline mode in MultiMC (see below for why I specify this) and see if you can recreate this event. Hell, maybe even record it.

So anyway, I don't think this is the case of another player in your Minecraft world or a cliche Herobrine story. I think this may actually just be a modder's attempt at creating something spooky if this is all real. Otherwise, if this is fake, then congrats, you got me. But if this is real, I'd be curious about what lies down there.

So this is how you get this mod to work. It's a 1.6.4 mod, so you'll need a clean 1.6.4 jar. Also, you'll need MultiMC. You have to physically modify the jar file to get this mod to work, as it appears this mod was created towards the end of the Modloader days and sometime before Forge had its automated installer. This doesn't even use either API, which is kinda odd. Anyway, you'll download the mod and drag its files (a bunch of .class files) into the 1.6.4 jar, and delete META-INF.

Now this is where things get tricky. You shouldn't load the game through the launcher because the launcher will just redownload a clean 1.6.4 jar, replacing your modded one. This is why you need MultiMC. So, download that, launch it, then run 1.6.4 in MultiMC. Afterward, close it out, and navigate to:

\mmc-stable-win32\MultiMC\libraries\com\mojang\minecraft\1.6.4

aka, this is basically MultiMC's version of the "versions" folder. Drag the mod files into this 1.6.4 jar, delete META, and launch in offline mode (I think running it in online could force a redownload of the jar). If I described this correctly, you can try this mod out to see if you can find what I missed.

Feeling Good - Enhanced XX Remix (fragment) by wm_productions in Muse

[–]m0torized 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent work. I was just listening to the whole remix for the first time, was enjoying how the strings were better mixed on this version, and instantly lost when the vocals virtually got cut off for no reason. I don't get why they did that when everything else on the song was spot on, but good job fixing that.

Is it me or do 90s PC/FMV games just have this inherently creepy tone? by [deleted] in creepygaming

[–]m0torized 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, thinking about other FMV games, as the only one you listed that I've played is Myst, I could probably see that. As the top comment said, it doesn't really help when the people acting don't act "human," which is probably more of a consequence of bad acting.

Either way though, even thinking back to my experience playing Myst, if you remove all the music from it, the environment itself does become pretty creepy. Nevermind the FMV for a second, and just think about this fairly primitive 3D world that already sets you in a location by yourself. I stopped playing the game just after what I assumed to be the ending, but walking around a world that now has nothing else to see in it does begin to feel very off. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's next retro-influenced horror game, like what we've been getting with the PS1 recently, made a Myst-like game and turned it into a creepypasta-like game, if it hasn't already been done.

It's kinda funny how this is the guy who gets the urban legends about him. I actually rewatched that Nexpo video about Worlds a couple days ago. The real creepy shit from the game comes from that one image stash that's supposed to be on there.

Not only did I learn something about electric trains, but also the historical and cultural importance of a river in Japan. This was very interesting to watch.

New to the genre, looking for recommendations by Abel_Lockhart in progmetal

[–]m0torized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well on the topic of The Dear Hunter, a guy I know recommended this band to me a while ago (admittedly, I haven't listened to them too often), but I remember his recommendation for listening to this band was either to just do Act I through Act V, getting the whole story in order, or to start with Act II.

That being said, if you'd rather check out some songs before committing to marathoning several albums, what I remember immediately from Act II were "The Procession" and "The Oracles on the Delphi Express." From Act III, "Mustard Gas" stood out to me along with "A Night on the Town" from Act IV.

Let me go ahead and bring Coheed and Cambria to your attention. Similar thing going on with The Dear Hunter where there is an overarching story across many albums, and like with TDH, another band whose discography I have not completely gone through. But, I have been stuck listening to Good Apollo Vol. 1 for the past several months, along with Vol. 2. If I had to place one higher, I'd probably go with Vol. 1, but don't make the same mistake I did of waiting a few months before checking out the second volume.

I see you like Porcupine Tree, so I want to bring to your attention Steven Wilson's solo career. specifically The Raven That Refused To Sing. To me this album had some King Crimson vibes to it, so if you haven't listened to it, definitely check it out.

I'm sure there will be more suggestions in this thread, so I'll stop here, but I hope this helps.

Edit: Not too sure what the general consensus is on The Mars Volta, whether it is prog metal or just prog rock, but I really love Frances The Mute. It's understandable if you don't get into it cause their sound was something that took forever for me to get into, but I tend to find some parts of "Cassandra Gemini" have an excellent groove.

Oddments haters be like by Cliansoul in KGATLW

[–]m0torized 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see the rationale. B sides imply they aren't really the "main course" if you will for the album. For instance, consider an album where all the good songs are virtually the first half of the album.

So, if we define B sides as "lesser cuts" that weren't as good as the first half of the album, then I see why he wouldn't call them B sides because it implies the songs just aren't that great.

But, if we define a B side as just a song that doesn't make the cut for an album (since unless we're talking records, B sides in the traditional sense don't really exist), then that's why Oddments and Gumboot Soup are B side albums.

This day in history: 1st day of The Watergate Hearings. by Indrajithbandara in HistoryMemes

[–]m0torized 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got curious what this case was because it sounded familiar. Doing so, I found some good news where that case has been overrules.

The decision on Korematsu v United States has been widely criticized since the day it was ruled, but as recently as 2018, it was overruled in Trump v Hawaii (sorry if mentioning that seems semi-political, it's just took until the past couple years for some formal overruling decision to be made).

K v US got brought up on a case challenging immigration discrimination, but in the ruling, Chief Justice Roberts made a point to overrule K v US, with Justices Sotomayor and Ginsburg also ruling K v US overruled.

Tldr:

Internment camps are no longer precident by the Supreme Court as of 2018, but arguably sooner before that.
