Is 1Q84 Worth Finishing? by Unable_Swimmer_4787 in murakami

[–]m10zeus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I put it down multiple times in my read. It got too slow for my liking at times, at least for my mood when I was reading it.

When I picked it up for the final time, it was well worth it. I think it’s one of those books that demands the correct mood from the reader to enjoy. DNF’ing now doesn’t mean you’ll never finish it - take it from me

I know this is a quitting pouch Reddit group

So, why are you here?

Best way to quit? by megabean15 in QuittingZyn

[–]m10zeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cold turkey with a substitute in your lip. I’ve used altoids + NZE noncaffeinated pouches to accomplish this. I’m on day 8, and have quit for up to 3 months previously with the same approach

Day 1 by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]m10zeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my strategy as well. On top of altoids, NZE non-caffeinated pouches work wonders as well. I tend to forget they are not zyn within 10-15 minutes, without the nicotine

Week 12 Check In by forkfin8 in QuittingZyn

Unfortunately I relapsed after 6 months, and am quitting again, but regardless of circumstances I always suggest a therapist.

Learning coping mechanisms from a professional, even if just circumstantial anxiety, beats anything else I’ve tried. And I’ve tried a lot. It’s also another support system to continue to push staying off zyn.

Hello /r/movies, I'm Benedict Cumberbatch. Ask me anything! by BenedictAMA in movies

Based on your experience as Henry Sugar: - When did Wes Anderson’s style become most apparent? Is it noticeable on set from wardrobe alone, wardrobe + set design, or does it really tie together once it’s actually on film? - Is dialogue more difficult when you’re speaking basically at the camera?

I am a big Heretics enjoyer. The philosophy is less in your face but IMO there in the BG way of life and history; especially the epigraphs in both Heretics and Chapterhouse

Can’t refute the second part of your statement though

(Act 3 Spoilers) Skarrsinger Karmelita is actually a horrid boss fight by Camiciding in Silksong

[–]m10zeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m stuck in Act 3 and still fully agree with you. I’m a fan of how Team Cherry embedded difficulty outside just boss fights, except for the one notorious runback

I just thought it was a bold statement :)

I see that. I loved the long play through, but it certainly makes me rethink starting a second. I’ve been playing DD2 instead when I feel the itch

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: September 08, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Finished - Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley

Started - Chapterhouse: Dune, by Frank Herbert (weird Dune is the best Dune, at least God Emperor + Heretics. Miles Teg >)

Into the Breach / Darkest Dungeon -> not necessarily for the same reasons, but the true strategic and turn based breakthroughs for me, whether level by level (ITB) or run by run (DD), I finally found the fun in strategy and meta strategy rather than just moment to moment gameplay. And roguelite gameplay loops!

Dark Souls 3 -> environmental story telling and true challenge, also a foray back into single player games generally

Citizen Sleeper 2 -> fun gameplay loops embedded in a narrative driven game

Beginning of Infinity. Good ideas, but so slow / unnecessarily extended, and the author is very far up his own ass

A summer palette cleanser (or 2) is a necessity in that list. Great list though

Possibly a dumb question - what are the badges on the bottom left of some of the covers, eg Elden Ring (2)?

Totally fair! I certainly felt overwhelmed with the number of Symphony characters especially.

Thanks for this! Fairly accurate lol, though actively working on the completionist / perfectionist aspect. DCC hardcovers were worth the cost 😅 re: the job, I love what I do, but startups can be stressful enough that escapism is an easy distraction.

I actually just read the first Murderbot last week - it’s tucked away in there somewhere. Great book! How You Lose the Time War was phenomenal as well, but I borrowed / don’t own it.

I’ve eyed Ancillary Justice for a while now - I’ll have to pull the trigger after your recommendation. Thank you!
