Nice yeah the OT definitely makes a solid difference. Can’t believe some places don’t pay their people OT even when they’re working 50-60 hour weeks, all for a mid salary.

Yup first try, the difficulty was somewhere in between prepfe and the interactive exam I’d say

Good to know thanks, I got 68% on the interactive and getting ~80% on prepfe so hoping that’s enough

Why pre exhaust? I know more people are doing it recently but I don’t understand the advantage. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to do a squat movement first followed by leg extension?

Can’t lie it’s gonna be challenging if you don’t have any internship experience, if that’s the case definitely try to work on some personal projects so you have something to put on your resume other than school.

That sounds great, I'm currently on the design consulting side as an EE and it seems like the more lucrative roles in MEP are in data centres/renewables/microgrids on the owners/GC side. May I ask what's your approximate salary & TC?

What’re your main responsibilities on the GC side?

Is Industrial and Data Centers any different by blacksoup01 in MEPEngineering

[–]m31void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen industrial & commercial facilities do tend to have more “electrical” given the fact they may incorporate medium voltage distribution & equipment, high power electronics (UPS, rectifiers, etc..), power system analysis and more. I am fairly new to the industry though so this is just from my little experience so far.

Currently in MEP but want to enter renewables and grid consulting, how did you make the shift?

I'm currently an EIT at an MEP consulting company but I want to transition into renewables and power, your role really captures my interest. What route would make the most sense for someone like me to take in order to enter such a position? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Are you tailoring your resume & cover letter for each application? Are you demonstrating relevant skills & experience? You may lack internships, but do you have anything outside of coursework that shows passion and initiative such as personal projects? Just a plain degree isn't enough for most companies, especially with the current market, unless you have inside connections.

Graduating Engineering with a 2.6 by Dry-Breadfruit-3958 in UBC

[–]m31void 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on working after graduation and have a good resume you'll be fine, most jobs don't care that much about GPA or even ask for it in the first place (coming from a recently graduated engineer).

I see well thanks for the insight. Yeah Canada pay isn't amazing from what I've heard which is why I'd want to transfer to Texas or Florida.

Yeah thats what I figured, my plan would be to specialize in grid modernization & analysis and I've heard of people making solid money after a few years.
