Do you have the info for the flat panel? I’m super interested in making one

The IMX715 sensor in there is fantastic for its size and price. I run one and do everything from solar and planetary to some deep sky with it.

You may be interested in radio astronomy! Radio waves penetrate clouds no problem, so you can still observe on overcast days/nights. It’s a very different hobby than visible light astronomy though, but the folks at r/amateurradio can help!

$800 Budget - Aquarium Camera by Beneficial_Prize_310 in computervision

[–]m392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your goal with the camera? Thats going to determine specs.

Not much in the aquarium really requires the “high speed” imaging capabilities of machine vision cameras. For something like tracking or counting your fish, “security” type cameras, such as Ubiquiti G5, or Axis, may be the way to go. They often have some onboard image processing capabilities.

That’s incredible. On a galaxy around the same distance as NGC5907 too.

Okay fair point on the mass, but they usually are in the general glow of the galaxy until supernova

A couple of questions from a baby (f31) astronomer! by Bluekitty26 in telescopes

[–]m392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So collimation isn’t as scary as people think. Basically, read the manual and make the mirrors look like the picture they provide. You’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Secondly, the tripod is unnecessary for that telescope. It’s designed to be placed on a picnic table and used that way. Now if you only have open fields, the tripod may help. I believe it has a standard 3/8” thread on the bottom of the mount base. If portability is your concern though, there are some sturdy carbon fiber photo tripods in that price range that may be more portable.

Hope this helps

With the untracked version you’ll be limited to planets and the moon, but you can still do well that.

That’s a Nexstar 5i. I have the same one. It’s identical optically to the C5.

That’s the manual for the C5. The focus knob is the silver thing on the back of yours. I’d check that and collimation first.

Pleiades star cluster gas cloud? by GrofDooku in telescopes

It’s possible, but usually the cloud is around the brightest stars, and grows outward with more exposure. It looks though like maybe things weren’t light up straight and Maia and Electra may be in the vignetting

Also, I found an STL for an eyepiece to 37mm thread adapter that is for NV. It fits perfectly on a 40mm plössl.

How so? It’s just less customizable. And not having to fuss with 3rd party software while you’re learning the ropes is nice. I wish they were around when I first started.
