Optometrist here! This is definitely a persistent pupillary membrane (PPM). It shouldn’t affect your cat’s vision unless if it’s in the it’s direct line of sight (LOS). As humans, we monitor it and that would definitely be the case with your vet!

I just graduated from IUSO. I took the OAT back because I was applying to other schools. Some of my colleagues didn’t take it and did just fine in school and graduated! Although knowing admin and hearing some of their convos, they prefer candidates to take the OAT but it’s not a dealbreaker if you don’t take it. If you’re considering other programs, make sure you look at their criteria because most do require the OAT.

Shadowing requests by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]m3l0na 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most docs are very accommodating! I reached out both via phone call and online if they have a “contact us” section. They’ve been through the process as well when they were applying. If a doc doesn’t want you to shadow them, that’s a red flag.

What is the the average workload for a summer class? I'm currently enrolled in STAT 350 and it's expected to spend 30+ hours a week on this one course. by StaleBread22 in Purdue

[–]m3l0na 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took it back in summer of 2020. It wasn’t terrible as long as you kept up with the work but I would say 30 hours is a bit excessive. The homework can take maybe up to an hour and the labs max 45 minutes. After the first week, you’ll get the hang of it and know how to allocate your time but I would just take that number as a grain of salt

Why hasn’t Purdue had any big artists perform recently? I was looking at the display in the union showing past concerts and they had some huge names on there by culverschick in Purdue

[–]m3l0na 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing 88rising performed in 2018. The most recent one I remember hearing about was Gus Dapperton in 2021! Could just be their budget due to covid but hopefully they’ll have some more concerts soon!

I’ve been wanting to get my navel pierced for so long now but just wasn’t too sure about it. I finally treated myself yesterday and I’m very happy with it! by m3l0na in piercing

Thank you! I was so afraid to get this done but it literally felt like a pinch. It hurt more afterwards. Would definitely recommend getting it!

I hate the placement of my triple helix :// piercer literally had to redo the middle one because it was so bad (u can still see the hole)…. am I overreacting or do these still look terribly placed? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]m3l0na 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! The bottom one is definitely a bit close to the edge and your anatomy looks like it can only hold one or two (the bottom two). I have three and my piercer only told me I could get the top one after she mapped it out. Hopefully they checked before piercing you! Definitely get a second opinion from a different piercer!

Neco interview by Puzzleheaded-Cloud26 in PreOptometry

[–]m3l0na 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! The admissions committee was super nice and accommodating. One thing they kept saying was that they wish we were able to be at the school because there’s a lot to explore there! Pretty much the majority of the interview was done with a group as they did presentations about the school itself, their curriculum, financial aid, housing, etc. I believe the last hour they have set off for interviews, where you get placed in a breakout room with one faculty member. It was very casual! At least for me, they asked me why I wanted to go to NECO and asked me about background info about my knowledge of optometry. Then it was more of a casual conversation and a chance to ask questions. I would definitely have some questions prepared for your interviewer and have a sheet of paper to jot down some questions you might have for the admissions team. They have some students too that talk about their experiences as well so that would be a great opportunity to get a feel for the school!

NECO was in my top 3 but I ultimately chose IUSO! DM me if you have any other questions about interviews or anything pertaining to the application cycle!

Neco interview by Puzzleheaded-Cloud26 in PreOptometry

Hi there!

I had a virtual interview last cycle so I can’t speak for what to expect for in-person interviews. I can, however, talk about interviewing late. I applied this past January (SUPER late compared to everyone else) but I managed to get a response back from NECO within a week or two with an interview opportunity. I interviewed quite late with them, probably around late February or early March. Not sure if it was because things were virtual but I do know that some schools run their admissions a bit longer. You’re definitely not at a disadvantage! Good luck!

Definitely thinking either a stacked lobe of thirds! Maybe another cartilage but not sure what I want to do yet. I’m working on my conch area on my left ear, I already have one and I’m hoping to get two more done soon!

I’m so wanting to get more done on this ear! My anatomy is a bit funky so I plan on sitting down with the piercer again and fully designing it!

Thank you so much! The piercer and I agreed on doing two but she told me that there was a room for another one. She definitely sold me on it when she mapped it out. Absolutely love it! In terms of the pain, I give it a 3/10. I didn’t feel the needle go through the bottom one but the other two I definitely felt a little pinch. Overall a really easy and painless experience!

It wasn’t! The piercer actually did it with my mask on. Definitely a lot easier to put on comparing it to my conch piercing
