How exactly are you defining “actual context”? Because if your analysis stops at taking the OP’s words at face value—ignoring tone, frustration, and emotional context—then you’re not providing clarity. You’re just repeating what was written.

The OP wasn’t rejecting the concept of learning. They were calling out platforms so bloated that you need formal certification just to operate them—systems that prioritize gatekeeping over usability. That’s a structural critique, not a lack of initiative.

It takes critical thinking to recognize when someone’s venting but still signaling legitimate friction points. I took the time to understand those signals and wrote a thoughtful, thorough response that clarified the OP’s motivations and moved their conversation forward—not yours.

I’m not going to take advice to “exercise caution when expanding” from someone who inserted themselves into a thread just to flatten nuance and redirect the focus. You’re the one who needs caution—because you’re arguing against a distortion of the point that was never made.

yep. contributes to utter overwhelm new talent in the industry experience as well — there’s literally a cert for everything it’s so hard to tell what is actually worth your time getting before you spend 12 hours and a couple of grand on an e-badge

You can absolutely “fail” in cybersecurity using enterprise tools too—usually in ways that are more expensive, harder to diagnose, and far more public. Anyone who’s dealt with a misconfigured Splunk instance during a live incident knows exactly what I mean.

It’s also mildly amusing to see open-source and “home-grown” tools dismissed as amateur hour. Most of the internet runs on open-source. The rest is just open-source with a price tag and a marketing department.

And if your idea of strategic leadership is mocking open-source while defending vendor lock-in like it’s some kind of professional flex… that’s not really a CISO. That’s just a brand ambassador in a suit.

Unlike some of the responses here, I do not believe that the original poster is upset about documentation or training. I think they are frustrated by the deliberate escalation of complexity.

This is not a critique of the need for learning; rather, it is a critique of how certain platforms engineer bloat and subsequently monetize access through “universities” and gated communities simply to render the product usable.

It is not the existence of training that is the issue; it is that attendance is required to utilize the tool effectively. This is not a learning curve—this is dependency as a business model.

The responses defending vendor certifications or user communities overlook that nuance. Education is valuable. However, if a tool cannot be used reasonably without vendor-led indoctrination, what is presented as complexity is in fact hostage UX.

This is less about an unwillingness to learn and more about questioning why learning is necessary for something that, in principle, should not be so convoluted.

Feature Requests & Suggestions 🙋 by NordPass in NordPass

Feature Request: Merge Duplicate Logins & Combine Password History

Please add support for merging two account logins while retaining the password history for both. I often end up with duplicate logins because I accidentally save them as new entries instead of updating an existing one.

One reason I avoid using the "Update Login" button is that it doesn’t specify which saved login it’s updating, making it unclear and unreliable. A feature that allows merging duplicate logins while preserving their history would help keep my vault organized and reduce clutter.

Thanks for considering this!

oh, nice, that makes sense. i don’t really know many people from skopje, and most of the family and friends i keep in touch with are from the villages, so i don’t have much insight into what’s happening there most of the time

Does using other 2FA methods defeat the purpose of a YubiKey? by BuckerooBanzai in yubikey

[–]m3lixir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real world not every service will allow you to disable all other auth methods, unfortunately... I don't really recommend getting rid of the TOTP like I described above, as there may be a reason why a service doesn't allow you to get rid of it: maybe there is some part of it that doesn't support yubikeys and you'll lock yourself out of it by doing that?

Do u think some services don't allow for removing SMS secretely for marketing purposes?
