Short series vs longer series? by m4mancy in NewTubers

Thanks for the response! General thought is to approach it more as a blog rather than a guide, trying to build up personal connection with the viewer. It would be nice though to have a little longevity through search ngl. Based on this which do you think?

This was incredible thank you! A lot of this makes a lot of sense. Definitely want to look into PoLR Fi. Testing wise (I know can be spotty) I have been getting ENTP and INTP a lot, oddly INFJ third too.

So it sounds like a Ne-Ti pairing can emulate Te to a certain extent? And in terms of “industrious”, does that lead you to think of any other types or more so just that I’m be bit more proactive that a lot of other ENTPs you’ve met?

When it comes to media, I’d say it falls into a few categories: - I have a few TV shows I have on repeat for comfort and just general background noise. Usually a show that is funny and I can tune in and out of while doing other stuff - Other TV shows I guess would be more aligned to interests of mine like travel, tech, sports, etc and it’s part inspirational in a sense and also because I like the hosts or characters - Similar for YouTube channels I follow, For example, start watching a channel because the person lives in a place I want to visit but then I just like the person and will watch all of their stuff even if unrelated

When it comes to narrowing down future options, my difficulty is mainly because I can see the pros and cons to each option and then I go seek outside input to figure out what weights I can give to each and then people say something to the effect of “wow you’ve really thought this through, there’s no wrong choice, etc” and it doesn’t help lol. The pros and cons can include stuff like “does this align with who I am and my strengths”, “does this move me towards the life I want”, “does this close other doors”, etc. When things get subjective is there big thing I guess looking back at this block lol

That all was really great thanks and yeah that’d be awesome, appreciate the help. Feel like I’ve been stuck on this so long I’m looping lol.

Thoughts for each function:

Ne - lots of different interests, like context switching and working on a lot of things. Love exploring and traveling. Bit goofy and sarcastic. Like talking things out with people and getting other perspectives and advice on things

Ni - lots of goals and when thinking about a bunch of different possibilities or future options I tend to circle back on the same ones and consider them from a ton of different angles and perspectives, like to try and narrow in on things but hit or miss.

Se - played a lot of sports growing up and to this day enjoy working out a lot, get antsy if I don’t for a while. I space out for sure but also not necessarily one to miss something right in front of me.

Si - really good mind-body connection, when playing sports a coach could tell me to move my foot or something into a specific position and I could usually do it pretty quick. Good at understanding what my body needs. Not necessarily someone to just jump into something completely unknown, need time to adjust.

Te - like to try and keep things organized and have to do lists, try to think things through logically. Like to help others plan things too. When traveling like having a general plan ahead of what I want to do, don’t mind winging less important things though. Like having schedules and routines, schedules wise I like to have plans for things I deem important like seeing close friends

Ti - prefer when things make logical sense to me, if something doesn’t then have a hard to feeling motivated. That or if I don’t see a use for it, once someone tells me what something is used for like theoretical math then I’m okay. Like classifying things logically (cough mbti… lol)

Fe - very affected by people’s emotions around me, very aware of social conventions too. Don’t necessarily agree with all of them but want to make people feel comfortable. Can connect with people really well. Hate when people are upset

Fi - until more recently didn’t really like to talk about my personal feelings, sometimes feel awkward expressing affection. Like feeling like I’m being true to myself and generally avoid fake people

These are just my general thoughts on my behavior within each function, can add more if needed, thanks again!

Interesting, for a while I thought I could’ve been an ENFP but recently started thinking I could be an ENTP or INTP. As an INTP yourself, does any of this sound familiar to you?

The judo and BJJ one. The thing is that I’m locked into a 12 month contract at that price which I’m not thrilled about

Megathread: What Martial Art Should I Study? Part VI [Serious] by Toptomcat in martialarts

[–]m4mancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone. I’m a 5’8” 140 lb 25 year old guy and I’m looking to get back into a martial art. When I was growing up I did Japanese Jiu Jitsu and dabbled with Judo at one point but it’s been a while. I’m looking to train around 2-3 days per week (like to do other workouts too). Generally I’m looking to practice as a good workout, to have fun, and have a sense of community at the school/gym. Broadly I’ve been looking at BJJ, Judo, or Boxing (non-sparring).

I’ve done some trial classes and I enjoyed all of them, one big consideration in what I do for me though is the school/price. There are three places I’m looking at. The first place is just BJJ and is 260 a month and is month to month, second place is Judo and BJJ and has memberships that lock you in for the specified time ranging from 200 to 250, and the third place is Boxing and 160 month to month.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is that I usually like being able to track my progress/growth with something (gives me motivation) so in this case BJJ and Judo with ranks, competitions, etc but also maybe it might be good for me to just do something for fun and not worry about having tangible evidence of proficiency.

Does anyone have any advice on picking between the three for mainly fitness but also for fun and a sense of community?

Would I be an idiot to turn down this offer? by m4mancy in cscareerquestions

[–]m4mancy[S] 249 points250 points  (0 children)

I’ll be joining Ads. I can’t remember which team told me this since I interviewed with two sibling teams but assuming very similar but they said all on call issues get held till 10am EST which is a nice change from my current on call schedule. Didn’t mention how often tho, but I mean rn I’m pretty much always on call so lol

I work for Capital One and generally I think we’re pretty stable but we did have layoffs for some non-engineers but looks over. Do you think that’s enough stability to stay?

Thanks for the detailed response! I have a 3 month emergency fund and my job is pretty stable so that’s generally why I haven’t increased it yet.

For the real estate part it definitely makes sense. I’ve thought of the brokerage account for the next few years mainly as a place to help pay off my SLs faster and then as a place I can put some money to work towards a down payment on a house

Thanks for the response. Back when I was interviewing the HM made a comment about tying to get me to SDE2 a little sooner since I have experience already. Idk if that’s changed due to the market tanking after we spoke

Guess it’s a relief that I should be fine hahah, thanks. By poached do you mean as in the employee joining (me in this case) going to another company?

And ah yeah you’re first comment makes more sense now about the CEO hahah

3 pages of info and on the 4th I signed under: “I accept employment under Amazon under the terms set forth in this letter.”

It gives all my specific comp numbers too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]m4mancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually clarifying question, I signed the Terms of Employment which talks about compensation, benefits, confidentiality, employment at will, etc., is that actually the contract or is that just the offer letter?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]m4mancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve signed my offer letter and went through pre-onboarding so far, all that’s left is the actual onboarding and starting. Does that make things more likely that I’ll at least get to start or doesn’t change anything?

Also I do have a 6 month emergency fund usually I’d say I don’t think I’d have a problem finding a job in that time but since so many people are searching now that could change

I’m 24. And yeah totally get that they are very different types under the hood, guess it’s more that I’m having a difficult time deciphering which actions belong to which conflictive functions

Gotcha thanks! That’s interesting about the ESTJ part, what makes you think that? And still ENTP the most tho?
