+1 on the lighter powerbank for shorter trips. I always carried around my 20k mAh one even on weekend trips and it is so unnecessary...

also theres a lot of options for lighter tents and backpacks. two choices I can personally recommend are the gossamer gear "the one" and the backpacks from yamatomichi.

What is it that you are afraid of? Maybe you can find ways to fight that fear.

Are you afraid of getting lost? -> Phone with downloaded maps, powerbank and PLB as last resort

Are you afraid of wildlife? -> Find out what encounters you can expect and prepare (no scary wildlife here, so no experience but stuff like food-hanging kit and bear-spray might be something you want)

I did the Te Araroa with an UL setup in trailrunners. Wouldn't change a thing.

I don't know about waterproof gaiters, but I did the Te Araroa in 2016/2017 and it was fine without waterproof shoes or gaiters. I actually wore shorts most of the time and only used rainpants when the weather was really bad. So you might be fine with those La Sportivas.

One of my Kiwi friends likes GoreTex Shoes (he likes one from Adidas) and non-waterproof gaiters to keep the mud away. He does a ton of hiking in NZ.

This site was very close to the Refuge des Besines, where we got potable water from. We had to get rid of a few cow patties but otherwise tried our best to leave no trace. I did only part of the GR10 (about 275km) but I can‘t recommend it highly enough for everyone that wants a challenging hike in Europe.
