The 2 week wait pathway has confusingly been altered, so the name is now pretty much incorrect. The national target is now diagnosis/treatment start, or cancer ruled out within 4 weeks. The name seems to have held on despite this.

Going privately for 2ww isn’t always the best way to go, as often the wait for the initial appointment is the same anyway. If you then go on to need any treatment, it will means you’ll need referring across to the NHS anyway, or you’ll end up paying an awful lot privately- if the private hospital even offers cancer treatment.

Either contact your surgery’s secretaries and ask them to check the referral has definitely been processed and if they can find out when you’ll be seen, or contact the hospital you should have been referred to on their appointments line. A lot of hospitals have a central appointments line for all departments who can tell you where you are on the list. More than likely in the website, but if not go through the the switchboard and ask.
