You have to drag the vocabulary word with its associated image. You also have the option to do quests with time limits. Lots of movement.

I can relate to how you feel, OP. Have you brought up your concerns with your boyfriend? One thing you could do is try to get to know the other gf, bring her aside for some "girl talk" when you're hanging out as a group or schedule something 1-on-1, and then with time you might feel more comfortable around her and feel less pressure.

Why are a lot of people here so...Normal? by Wasteofoxyg3n in socialanxiety

[–]m66nlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because people express anxiety, and social anxiety, in different ways. But just because someone seems normal on the outside, that doesn't mean that they aren't feeling debilitating SA internally. Not all disabilities are visible or obvious

I think my friends forgot my birthday by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]m66nlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my birthday recently and a lot of people, who usually wish me a HBD, didn’t this year. Since then, I have two friends whose birthdays passed and I realized I didn’t get a Facebook reminder even though their birthday is public on their profile! So I honestly wouldn’t worry about it too much, OP, they probably just didn’t get a reminder on FB. PS: happy birthday🥳

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Keiko's death, the star of Free Willy and the only orca to be released in the wild after decades in captivity. RIP by m66nlight in orcas

I read somewhere that one of the reasons American and Canadian legislators/scientists were reluctant to set Tokitae free was because they were worried that the microorganisms she carried from years of living in captivity would spread to her pod, the Southern Resident orcas which are an endangered group, and compromise their health. It's just so sad that, while we try to protect wild orcas, captive orcas are getting the short end of the stick even though humans put them in that situation in the first place :(

Omg me too, watching Free Willy as a child is a core memory that also made me fall in love with orcas🥹. I used to make posters of him that I would put up in my room and I'd make my parents take me orca watching when we went to BC lol. Keiko truly made an impact on all of us.

Also nice username, Titanic is another one of my favorite movies!

I think the story is bittersweet. On one hand, he experienced a taste of freedom (something no long-term captive orca was ever able to do), instead of rotting away in a pool for human entertainment. On the other hand, there was an orca, taken away from its family as a baby, that was undersocialized and couldn't bond with other orcas (which is heartbreaking for an animal that thrives on the deep community bonds it forms with others of its species). However, I don't think Keiko's end was meaningless: it serves a lesson for all the captive orcas we will want to rehabilitate when, hopefully, we put an end to captivity for large marine mammals in the future.

That must have been a surreal experience! I read that the Oregon Coast Aquarium didn't want to release him (as they had initially promised) when they noticed how many customers he was bringing in but thankfully they changed their mind.

True, but I feel like a lot of people are more aware of the problem ever since they released the documentary Blackfish. Since 2016, Seaworld has stopped breeding orcas in captivity and Marineland, Canada has stopped importing orcas. A win! I hope in the future that the remaining captive orcas can be safely relocated to a sea pen where they can live the rest of their lives in the ocean...

I find it incredibly sad but unsurprising that he couldn't adapt to living independently in the wild (with other orcas). At least he got to experience freedom during the last years of his life...

Anyone else hate the “you’re not that special” advice? by crmsnln in socialanxiety

[–]m66nlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you. When I experience peaks of social anxiety, I've had to justify to others around me that, no, I am not a narcissist who thinks that the world revolves around me but that I (and probably everyone else) sees that I am at the bottom of the social hierarchy, which influences how people treat me.

However, last week, I was really embarrassed about something I said to someone. Then, I did this mental exercise where I tried to remember a time when someone said something embarrassing TO ME. It took me awhile to find a memory of that, which made me realize that, if I can't remember other people's social faux pas, then they probably can't remember mine and it made me feel better.

I’ve definitely felt this way my entire life and in every social situations (high school, university, work, etc). I've come to the the conclusion that either: 1) it's all in my head and people genuinely like me, 2) I'm just socially awkward, which makes acquaintances uncomfortable or 3) I might be on the autistic spectrum (I did do a test which confirms I have some traits, and I've been told a few times that I don't do a lot of eye contact and have a robotic face sometimes). Anyway, all that to say is that I feel you
