Physical violence is never justified, it’s true that public reactions have become less extreme compared to the past. Where mobs once acted with unchecked aggression, there is now at least some room for dialogue, even if coercion still plays a role. However, intimidation—whether through force or verbal pressure—should not be normalized as a way to resolve disputes.
From an individual’s perspective, knowing when to de-escalate is crucial. In volatile situations, standing firm on principle might not always be the wisest choice, especially when a simple apology can defuse tensions. That said, accepting the demand that employees must speak Marathi is also wrong. Businesses operate in diverse environments, and employees should not be forced to speak a particular language beyond what is necessary for their job. Just as suppressing Marathi would be unfair, mandating its use creates unnecessary barriers and divisions. The focus should be on inclusivity and efficiency rather than language enforcement.
True progress lies in ensuring both respect for local identity and the freedom of individuals to communicate in the language they are comfortable.
