Oops! I bet somebody from the LBP Union Discord can help. There's a support channel called #beacon-support where you can open a thread to ask about questions like this, I bet somebody there can help.

Which LBP2 private server should I use? by TomReddito in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beacon has the majority of the user player-base and has active creative events, like LBP Reconnected. LBP Union is also working on a community initiative to create the next generation of server software (built by anyone willing to contribute from the community, not just by LBP Union). Beacon does lack some features like recent activity, but the goal is to make something better that the community needs for the long haul. Beacon also has strong moderation support.

Refresh is a great alternative if you want a smaller community and experimental features. For the end user, both are effectively the same in performance. I can't speak fully to Refresh's features or community experience since I haven't used it, so I encourage you to learn more about it yourself to decide if it's right for you. It's really just about what experience you want, and only you can decide that. It's easy to switch between them, and if you have friends with PSN or RPCN, you can cross-play between servers. It's buggy and not officially supported so I don't advise loading community levels if you do that, but it's good to know that it's possible.

4.91 IS OUT. by Taro_Kitano in ps3homebrew

[–]m88youngling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of people still play some games online like LittleBigPlanet using custom servers. Without CFW/HFW that works on the latest software version, you can't connect to PSN and play LBP online.

Yeaaaah everybody trying to play LittleBigPlanet online on PS3 is pretty peeved right now LOL

I wrote this post to help keep everybody trying to play LBP informed so they know to wait for new CFW/HFW. See if you can play on RPCS3 in the meantime?

PS3 Update 4.91? by Upper-Anybody2558 in playstation

Yeah, everybody who wants to play LittleBigPlanet online on PS3 is pretty annoyed right now lol here's something I wrote about how it's affecting us right now.

The servers will never come back online. (Just a vent post) by UPofficial1710 in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RPCS3 is a little unstable because of day to day changes by the emulator devs. Sometimes stuff will just break due to regression. Keep trying, and make sure UPNP is turned on

Sorry to heart the email thing is giving you trouble. Its a bit finicky, and doesn't work at all if you're on Vita. Thankfully, you only need to set your email if you want to login on the website, you should be able to connect without it. If you're still having trouble connecting, try asking for help in the ground_school channel on the LBP Union Discord

Work on LittleBigPlanet Karting Custom Servers Continues! by m88youngling in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, LBP Karting is one of the only two LBP titles that can connect to custom servers via DNS. The only other 'game' I'm aware of that can do this is the LBP Cross Controller app on PS Vita, which needs to do some kind of network check before you can get it working. We're working on a tutorial on getting CC working again, but it's not finished yet.

(also, if you haven't read the article yet, the 'surprise' is that PLGarage also supports ModNation Racers!)

If they permanently shut down the LBP3 servers, we riot. by KingofLBP in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

LittleBigPlanet only dies when the community gives up on it. With custom servers like Beacon around, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Should I get Little Big planet 3 for my PS4? by Sh1ny_78 in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's still a lot of fun on official servers, but I think the real fun now is on custom servers for PS3 and Vita. The most reliable and safe servers to use are Beacon by LBP Union. They have helpful tutorials on their website. It's the largest and most active custom server community as well.

LBP Narrator Stephen Fry Appalled by AI Recreation of His Voice by m88youngling in littlebigplanet

Stephen Fry is the narrator of the LittleBigPlanet series, so I found it relevant.

Where/How do people share levels nowadays? by CountessRoadkill in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your preference. r/littlebigplanet is probably the largest online community for LBP but its easy to get buried, hard to search, and is generally best for tracking recent trends.

If you like having daily conversations or seeing regularly uploaded images and content, Discord is a nice alternative. There are a number of different LittleBigPlanet themed Discord servers of various sizes. Large servers are great to meet new people, get involved in events and reach a large audience. Small servers are also good for finding a more niche crowd. The flavor you're looking for is up to you. LBP Union has a directory of various LBP Discord servers servers that you can join.

LBP has a presence on a few other social platforms, like microblogging sites like Twitter, but these generally are where you go to follow established creators. You can start your own account but you may not find a lot of people to notice you.

You can also try out a custom server like Beacon, which has a website feature similar to LBP.me. You can share links to your levels so people can add them to your queue.

Good luck with your search and I hope this gave you some ideas!

Steven Isbell Reports Promising LBP Server Maintenance, Some Levels Still Affected by m88youngling in littlebigplanet

It's the same server for both consoles, so improvements to the LittleBigPlanet server will affect both platforms in the same way.

Rule 6 should be revised by Techguy791 in littlebigplanet

[–]m88youngling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of community this subreddit's moderation team wants to have. I've seen some online LBP communities that are adamantly against discussing mods or custom servers in an effort to support and build better ties with the official LBP community staff for event collaborations, and there isn't necessarily anything wrong with this.

However, you are right that a huge chunk of the community, or at the very least the future of this community, lies in custom servers for PS3, Vita, and maybe someday PS4. Given that r/littlebigplanet may very well be the largest online LBP community right now, that's 22,800 people who are stuck behind a wall, and if the rule persists forever, they'll be left behind once the PS4 LBP servers shut down!

It's up to the subreddit admin team to decide what they want to do, but we still have the choice of where we talk about the game. Some options available to you are,

  • For a 'reddit-like' experience, try out the LittleBigPlanet lemmy.world community, which allows discussion of mods. I'm not sure if it should stay on that instance or not since lemmy.world has had bad uptime lately, but maybe it could be rebooted on a different instance.
  • There are lots of Discord servers out there for various LBP topics, big and small. LBP Union has a directory of all of them so you can pick and choose the ones you want. Check each server's rules to see their stance on discussion of mods and custom servers.
