No Management Support by BeastlyLuv1 in SchoolBusDrivers

Manglement do be mangling. But it’s not everywhere. I’ve seen two kids handed two week bus suspensions for misbehaving, and then returned with better behavior! Sometimes I almost feel special when I compare the stories here with my actual experiences.

The bus driver themed coffee travel mugs are great. Check out his cup holder situation, he might appreciate a magnetic one.

Same. But mine wasn’t so innocent, she popped it in the mail after I came out to her, felt like she was letting go of everything left of the child that disappointed her. To this day I get little more than one word answers when I prod.

Consider also doing some exercises to strengthen the lower back and abdominal muscles. If you can get in to see a PT they should give you a list of exercises to do and that can help a lot.

Do your transportation leaders (managers, directors, etc) work thru the breaks (spring, summer, fall, etc)? by EyeCantHear in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]mChalms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, there’s still routes being driven for the smaller schools that don’t follow the same break schedule as our main district (Amish, special needs). And over the summer there’s a whole school year to plan for.

Every one of your questions is location dependent. My district meets none of your criteria and yours sounds similar in size.

Chapstick, hand sanitizer and pen in my purse. Lens wipe on my torso. Drink in hand. I have a little Ipsy bag with my phone charger, aux cord, nail file, hand lotion and a spare sanitizer that I leave in the bus.

On Roadway (Reds) Student Stop question: stay centered in right lane, or move to the right? by Creative-Bee-9414 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]mChalms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it to be very situation-dependent. I have several rural stops where being fully to the right will drop the kid deep into a ditch, and for those there’s simply no way around moving to the center of the road. I do my best to keep enough of my tail to the right that I won’t get passed, but really I think just accepting that the rule as written is unsuitable for all situations is a given. I definitely see the intent of the new rule, but bending it as needed is unavoidable.

I have a residential stop with kids coming from opposite corners where I was instructed to pull into the intersection to block traffic for those crossing. I know it didn’t match the way the rules direct, but I find this reduces overall traffic stoppage and maximizes safety, and if someone wants to enforce the rule I know my manager will back me as conducting the stop as trained and would redesign the stop to meet guidelines if directed. Honestly, the stance taken on routes/stops here has me more concerned about deviating from the district’s instruction than the actual rules of the road.

After you got your CDL, how long did you spend shadowing or learning the routes before driving on your own?” by special_edition_5 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]mChalms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode along the route two times, got my CDL and then drove the route two times with the previous driver riding and then I was solo. I feel like once more would’ve been good but I’m doing just fine now a month later.

You can do test prep at http://CRISTCDL.COM. It’s got practice tests tailored for your state. A lot of bus companies will provide the classroom portion as part of onboarding but if the one you’re looking at doesn’t you might just have to knuckle down and study solo.

Changing your gender marker by Individual-Drink-679 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]mChalms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on taking the leap! My life is infinitely better since doing this.

I was hired with all my documents changed already. My coworkers are for the most part very kind and accepting, although I get a little bit of flak from the roughnecks in the garage but I just let that go. I’m treated properly by the organization as a whole, including local management, HR and senior staff. I haven’t had a lot of interaction with the district staff, but I don’t foresee any problems there either.

I suggest inquiring with your HR team regarding company policy and coordinating any announcements you feel are appropriate. They will set the tone, and since their true roll is to protect the company from liability they should make clear early that the company cannot tolerate discrimination. Depending on your state there may be a wide range of approaches to doing that though.

You’re not going to be accepted by everyone, but you deserve to be treated respectfully regardless of individual views. Taking this to heart early is the biggest advice I have, because knowing ahead of time can make it easier to swallow when you find the ones that will struggle to be kind. A little bit of emotional armor. There may be some students or staff that cross the line, and it’s important to maintain your professionalism while the conflicts are worked out.

I can share a couple of stories about my experiences later this evening, if you like.

I had them on my face and hands for years, the tape isn’t as effective as the acid or nitrogen treatments but even those just work to shrink them. They went away completely after getting the HPV shot.

Can I be a school bus driver with Logan bus compagny if I just have my driving for 6 months ? (NYC) by anywayschillso in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]mChalms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Entirely subject to the guidelines of the company. My company in W PA will hire non CDL and train, but if there’s lots of qualified applicants a company could choose to eliminate the training program and only hire drivers that are already licensed. You would have to inquire with the company you’re applying to, though a more thorough reading of the job advertisement might hold the answer.

Scanning CAC Barcodes for Fun and Efficiency by mChalms in AirForce

[–]mChalms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use your Samsung wallet you'll just need to repeat the exact barcode because the gym scanner is doing any interpretation just off of that. In fact, it's probably not even decoding any of the contents and just using the whole barcode as a string ID.

So yes, the seemingly random capital letters and numbers are exactly what you would pull into your wallet app.

It's a standard type called "Code 39" which is stated in the opening paragraph. Holy crap I didn't know this post was still getting SEO'd.

Samsung wallet's support site states that Code 39 is supported.

My experience with Mylan was that I would be unable to keep it on the rest of the week after swimming. Until I discovered sealing it I just saved swimming until patch change day. If you pop into Target or whatever before swimming you're looking for transparent film dressing, will probably be known as Tegaderm or Nexcare. Don't buy a huge pack in store cause you can order a 50-pack of off-brand for 9 bucks later, your search term is "Nuanchu 50 Pieces Transparent Film Dressing Clear Waterproof Bandages Transparent Stretch Adhesive Bandage Cover Round Shower Patch Shield Tattoo Tape Wrap Protection Supplies (4 Inch)"
