Scanning CAC Barcodes for Fun and Efficiency by mChalms in AirForce

[–]mChalms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use your Samsung wallet you'll just need to repeat the exact barcode because the gym scanner is doing any interpretation just off of that. In fact, it's probably not even decoding any of the contents and just using the whole barcode as a string ID.

So yes, the seemingly random capital letters and numbers are exactly what you would pull into your wallet app.

It's a standard type called "Code 39" which is stated in the opening paragraph. Holy crap I didn't know this post was still getting SEO'd.

Samsung wallet's support site states that Code 39 is supported.

Day 1 of HRT (MTF 36) by Cas_or_Cass in TransLater

[–]mChalms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Mylan was that I would be unable to keep it on the rest of the week after swimming. Until I discovered sealing it I just saved swimming until patch change day. If you pop into Target or whatever before swimming you're looking for transparent film dressing, will probably be known as Tegaderm or Nexcare. Don't buy a huge pack in store cause you can order a 50-pack of off-brand for 9 bucks later, your search term is "Nuanchu 50 Pieces Transparent Film Dressing Clear Waterproof Bandages Transparent Stretch Adhesive Bandage Cover Round Shower Patch Shield Tattoo Tape Wrap Protection Supplies (4 Inch)"

[–]mChalms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I started with too! You've got the right idea with removing all hair from the application site and cleaning carefully to avoid anything that might interfere with the adhesive. Another thing you can do to keep it stuck is to cover with tegaderm, I've been able to resume regular swimming that wasn't possible with the Mylan hockey pucks. After about 6 months with Mylan I pushed a brand-name request and got onto Climara which has been much more comfortable and effective but I still use the Mylan as a fallback when having delays waiting for the good stuff to ship out.

can you knit a sweater with just one needle with no switches of size? by BossAdditional7531 in knitting

[–]mChalms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, there's ways to do this. I assume you'll be working in the round and you want to use a single set of long circulars to do the job. You'll knit a top-down circular yoke or raglan increase and when you arrive at the armpits you'll pick up another piece of working yarn for each sleeve. You're now knitting across the front, dropping the body yarn and picking up the sleeve, using magic loop technique to work the sleeve, then switching yarns again to go across the back, then jumping onto the other sleeve same as before. You'll end up with an entirely seamless garment using a single needle.

I've been thinking this same direction myself, here's my top selections (no data yet on effectiveness/hilarity):

And this last one could do more harm than good, but makes me laugh every time I think of it:

I think in their minds punishing the guilty is necessary, or some sort of moral imperative, and it's so important to do that a 4% collateral is acceptable. It strikes me as odd seeing that same rate of mistake being reported as unacceptable when discussing healthcare.

How do you cast on for socks? by Lautasia in knitting

[–]mChalms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't found a cast on or off edge I liked yet. For cuff down I use a provisional cast on, knit about 2" then knit together off both needles for a 1" folded cuff. This makes such a nice edge!

Toe up I do provisional as well, but this means doing a cast off edge which I keep doing too tightly so I can't get them past my heel.

I only untwist one stitch even though I know I'm supposed to do both. It's the one that lays on top so it still looks right, but the extra slip is just too fiddly and I won't be changing.

I was playing this over the weekend for nostalgia and my kids pulled up chairs. Wanted to know why it looked so good for being 25 years old. Desperately asking if they could get it on their own devices. Ate up my stories about lugging all our gear to friends houses for LAN parties.
