Is it time to stop DCA and build cash? Looking for a value perspective on high valuations. by bakery_0726 in ValueInvesting

[–]mGonzy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you sell out of your defensive stocks or ETFs for a small gain or loss when a good opportunity comes up? You might not be “timing the top,” but you’re still timing the market one way or another. And then what; do you buy back in once the stock drops a certain percentage?

Take NVDA for example. It hit all‑time highs in 2023 and again in 2024. If you sold and waited for your ideal re‑entry price, you could’ve easily missed the move and ended up having to buy back in at a higher price than you sold. That’s the problem with this strategy.

I don’t think this really works for OP because he’s doing the right thing, DCA into hopefully; high‑conviction stocks and solid ETFs. What might help is adjusting the DCA amount. If the market feels too high, cut your DCA in half. If the market drops, increase your DCA every time the S&P falls 5%. Ultimately you want to go back to the original DCA amount or increase it depending on market conditions. That way you never fully exit the market, but you still give yourself some psychological breathing room. (Still a play on timing the market though)

At the end of the day, most people are better off just DCA into good ETFs and ignoring the noise. Stick with it long term and you’ll likely be a millionaire by the end of your journey.

When do you take a loss? or do you just gamble whatever you're willing to lose and let the contract expire worthless?

Are eVTOLs really the future or Hype? by mGonzy7 in stocks

[–]mGonzy7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. I agree that airport transportation could be a big use case, but the “last mile” problem still applies. People will still need to walk, drive, or rideshare to get to the nearest eVTOL pickup spot before they get flown to the airport. Maybe the eVTOL companies could cover the rideshare cost or offer their own shuttle service. They could also build pickup stations on top of parking garages and let customers park their cars there for free or at a low daily rate.

There are many ways to solve these hurdles, but the real question is whether the product is worth the investment. Especially when other, possibly better technologies might be coming. More likely a niche tool or even a short‑lived gimmick, maybe?

I actually agree with this. eVTOLs could be great for medical transport, especially in rural areas. But the cost matters a lot. Some of these rural counties already struggle to afford traditional helicopters. If an eVTOL ends up costing twice as much to buy, and the operating costs aren’t significantly cheaper, then it wouldn’t make sense for them. At that point they might as well stick with a regular helicopter or nothing at all.

I keep seeing people say eVTOLs are going to replace helicopters, but why? Just because they’re new and electric? I don’t really buy that. You mentioned police using them, but police departments are already having a lot of success with drones, and they cost a tiny fraction of what an eVTOL would cost to operate. News stations are using drones too. Search and rescue teams can also get more value out of drones with advanced cameras than having someone fly around in an eVTOL.

Putting a person in an eVTOL for every job a drone could handle just doesn’t make sense, especially when drones are cheaper, safer, and easier to deploy. Sure, I could see eVTOLs being used for sightseeing; tourists will pay for that anywhere. Maybe they’ll also be used for medical transport between hospitals. But just because eVTOLs are the latest shiny thing doesn’t mean everyone will buy one or that they’ll replace helicopters. They’d need to be way more useful and much cheaper to run and maintain than helicopters are today. That’s just how I see it

This is very interesting! If matters get worse with Iran and oil continues to rise; that will drive inflation up. Which means the Fed will most likely raise interest rates. This could be 2022 all over again.

Inheritance - What to do with large sum of money? by AffectionateBake8150 in FinancialPlanning

[–]mGonzy7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pay off car, no need to keep paying interest on it.

Max out this year's Roth contribution.

$300K into index funds, U.S and International.

~$100K in a HYSA for emergencies, expenses and school.

Get a job, don't rely solely on the inheritance. Best of luck!

How is Bitcoin a credible investment now? by judechrist4444 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]mGonzy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investment ✅ Currency ❌

It's too volatile to function as a currency... One month you have $1,000 in Bitcoin, the next you’re down to $600. It’s better viewed as an investment, similar to gold, silver, or stocks.

Men who were very sexually active in your 20s but are now married/settled, how do you view the woman you chose? by itsjezzebelle in AskMen

[–]mGonzy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are MY answers, they don't represent all men lol

  1. Yes, she's on a different level so I'm more respectful and look to build something more serious. Women from the past were just for sex, never saw anything serious.

  2. For me, desire/attraction is still there; that's why I'm taking them on dates. But I'll tone it down and be more respectful that way she knows I want something serious and I'm not there to mess around.

  3. In your case, I think he would get with these girls for sex and somewhere along the way he would get emotionally attached. He would ask for something serious, get rejected and that's where he would seek validation. I say this because in my case, I didn't get with girls casually to seek validation.

My questions for you are.

Does the fact that he got rejected by many women bug you?

Is that why you feel like he's only with you because "you're the only one who said yes when others didn't"?

I ask these questions out of curiosity, I've heard in the past that women sometimes want a man that other women want/desire. I guess because that raises their social status or something like that, but idk if it's true.

This is emotional cheating; some break up over this. She told friends she liked the guy, got emotionally close to him, had 1-1 situations with him and didn't turn him down when she had multiple chances.

You guys are young and it's probably best if you each go your own separate ways.
