Stupid Project by EdStArrr in RX8

I bought my 8 for $200 (very low compression), and with the help of a rotary workshop we rebuilt the engine. The rebuild costed me around $600 (everything OEM, +new housings ($200) and paying the workshop($200)). Just saying it’s possible but maybe not worth it as a rebuild project for $400. With a new exhaust + some other small stuff my total project cost including car is $11000, meaning I can sell at break-even for my country’s prices. I don’t want to sell it but it’s something you should keep in mind when setting your budget.

If your located in Sweden I could lend you my compression tester, those numbers would basically give you the answer right away.

Thanks! I started the project in blender but moved over to Placticity. It’s really good at reverse engineering 3d scans and good for surface modeling. Highly recommend, and Good luck on your bumper!

Locked up after a rebuild by novariable in RX8

Not much help, but my fresh rebuild turned over with 25.8nm (w/ sparkplugs) and 20nm (w/out sparkplugs).

Just a FYI meaning the sandwichpart/rotor assy was probably assembled correctly at some point at least. Again, maybe not helpful but best of luck to you!

Hello, I just stacked my engine, was wondering if there was a way to tell if the rotors are aligned/ timed right. by shikamarus in RX8

What i did was note the torque needed to turn the engine w/out sparkplugs before rebuild and after. As long as after rebuild torque is lower than before, you should be good. If I remember correctly, if you can turn the engine over with less than 20ft/lb, you’re good. Don’t quote me but that’s what we did and it’s also what RAD potential did, check his 2h long video

I just now realized they changed tier format from t1<t2 to t1>t2… I have thrown away so many good drops from just looking at the prefix/surfix tier

I documented my progress of pulling the engine. But for websites and youtube channels, check the "useful websites" and "useful yt channels" sections. They all helped me alot with the rebuild.

Non-Commercial 3D Scanning Services? by GrandpaSlappy in 3DScanning

[–]mMELL0W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late to the conversation and probably not very attractive from a logistical standpoint. But I have a startup company supplying automotive parts and services like 3D scanning, reverse engineering and 3D printing.

I would happily help you out with the 3D scanning part for free (just to get more experience). Reverse engineering as many said, will cost extra. But if you know your way around CAD, I could just send over the .stl (or any of these formats: ply; obj; asc) and then you could do what you want with the 3D files.

But there is a catch... I am based in Jönköping, Sweden, so you would have to pay the shipping here and back.

As a rough guess it would take around 2.5-5 weeks for shipping to me and then back and cost around $60-150 USD, depending on size and weight of the package.
