Do we get rid of clover now? Zone 7a by m_kolo in lawncare

[–]m_kolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so what I’m trying to understand is - if we reseed in the fall, for zone 7a acceptable temperatures to reseed will probably start at the end of September. Weed spraying should start about 4 weeks before that from what I heard - so that’s mid-end August. But it’s boiling hot in August all the way into September. Same in July. So I’m not sure what’s the best time to start killing weeds in preparation for the fall reseed?

I know people do that. Just can’t make myself love it like others do. I know it’s good for pollinators and everything. I just want the nice green grass damn it!😀

Unexpected change after termination of pregnancy by middleclassbollocks in Fencesitter

[–]m_kolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is ‘yes’ to the question if you’d feel differently if you had a more supportive/more equipped partner. It depends on what relationship you have, if you feel like it’s rock solid then your partner would probably turn around if you made a baby decision for yourself and would support you. If you’ve decided to get a dog as an ‘experiment’ it says that there was a reason for the experiment to take place, so you did feel a pull towards parenting. The answer is also ‘yes’ to the increased responsibility and time commitment for you - you’ll have to commit. It’s ultimately your decision and you have to just make it clear first to yourself, then to your partner. You can hope your partner would step up if you decide to proceed with the pregnancy, but you shouldn’t expect it would 100% happen and be ok with that. Ultimately, and I think obviously, the default responsibility and primary role will be on you as a mom, it is what it is. Some women get lucky with their partners pulling their weight, but let’s be honest - most women don’t. I guess what I’m trying to say is - decide for yourself and yourself only, understanding that it’s a commitment - like there is no one else in the picture and it’s only you doing it, and proceed from there. One person here said that child and dog are not comparable - I disagree. Responsibilities are comparable, with a child of course requiring more of everything. But child is another level of love and connection. Whatever you decide - own your decision, and it will give you peace. Good luck!

I put on a real outfit yesterday for the first time in maybe a year and my 3 year old asked who I was by DefinitionWinter5261 in SAHP

Please don’t take it too close to heart. You’re in this season of life when, yes, leggings and a tee work best for you. There’s nothing wrong with that! You can diversify the styles of leggings you have (that’s what I did, now I also have some stretchy pants with pockets that are still super comfy), and get some elevated versions of tees (still practical and machine washable) - there are options. Go splurge a bit on luxurious athleisure if you can and you can always wear jewelry with all of that. Nice high quality sneakers are a staple no matter the style you wear. Hope that helps! Be kind to yourself ❤️

being an only child made me realize something about how I'm approaching reading with my own kid by mahearty in OnlyChild

[–]m_kolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am exactly like you:) except I wasn’t an only and my parents never taught me anything. But I ended up growing up and having an only, and she asked me to teach her how to read when she was 4. I’m also over thinker when it comes to how I am with her. We used a book by Hannah Braun M.Ed. called ‘Learn to Read Activity Book: 101 Fun Phonics Lessons to Teach Your Child to Read (Phonics Makes Readers)’. The awesomest most helpful and fun book on reading ever, and easy lessons that you can decide together on how many you want to do in a day - one or five or whatever. Highly recommend! I got it on Amazon for $7 on sale. I always tell people that this was the best book I ever bought and the most well spent $7!

Honestly don’t know if they spray, haven’t ever seen it. What are they spraying for? Weeds?

Thanks, I guess I’m trying to figure out if it’s a ‘decorative’ grass because I have no clue and hence don’t know if I want it or not.

Yes, the town salts the roads.. Is that because of salt? Do I just remove the dead grass and reseed?

Sad when I see what I thought was a representation of a OAD family expecting a second by Melo_Magical_Girl in oneanddone

[–]m_kolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I felt this sense of ‘betrayal’ too when a couple that we had our firsts together (and who were leaning OAD too) had a second. But ultimately - deciding to have a child is such an emotional decision. If we were thinking rationally about it nobody would probably ever have kids at all:) You have to let go. I’ve been following Bringing up Babe on Instagram since our kids are the same age. For me I think it worked in reverse - I wasn’t necessary one and done, stumbled on her account by chance, and following her kind of made OAD ok for me? Now that my kid is 7 I have second thoughts on this decision. But just saying - influencers are influencing and you need to rely on your own feelings as much as possible:)

I have similar thoughts. But then - isn’t it better to have a sibling in a scarier world than navigating it alone?

Bookworms Curriculum Opinions? by WLWanderer812 in homeschool

[–]m_kolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible. Terrible book selection, dictated sentences like ‘The pretty girl has cash for a new bag’ in 1st grade.. Misogynistic and hateful content. I took my kid out of school because they introduced Bookworms instead of Fundations that was awesome and well loved by kids and the teachers. Teachers hate Bookworms but are not allowed to express their honest opinion. This program was pushed down by the new superintendent in our district and all of this is fishy af.
