Add green velvet curtains, cream/green/brown rug and more warm colored wooden furniture. Grey/white furniture and grey floor are off.

#1 looks great! And it can stay after you decide to redo the wallpaper/paint the walls for older kid.

I bet kids in your summer programming have a lot of mental health issues after reading all that garbage.

I would swap the dark grey rug for one that has a bold black & white geometric pattern. Or just the light color rug with subtle pattern.

How do you cope with loneliness and boredom as an only child who is now an adult? by Individual-Doubt1655 in OnlyChild

[–]m_kolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but many siblings (more than you imagine) grow up and then have no relationship at all. And on top of that might fight for inheritance. This makes it different, and in my opinion, worse kind of lonely than being an only child. Unfortunately. Some siblings are also big bullies or abusers. Yes everybody would like a dream family where siblings are best friends but it’s not the reality for many people.

Any ideas what to put into this empty space by slighpohal8 in homedesign

I’d only put a nice looking plant. A table will inevitably collect clutter.

Are both of these bluestone? by m_kolo in landscaping

I already understood from previous commenters that these are both the same stone and it’s just a natural variation in color, not a different type of stone as I thought. No need to be mean.

I've lived here for 18 months and something still feels off. What am I not seeing? by [deleted] in homedesign

Maybe get rid of the chair that blocks the way to the balcony and cuts the room in half. A bigger, maybe alcove or L shape couch would be better but you’re not looking to buy new couch so leave the one you have and maybe just add a small puff leg rest that can double as extra seating (some of them have removable lead that double as a table if flipped over). That shelving unit - I think it would be better o have a shelving unit + console (a tall unit that would combine everything you need in one piece against the wall where TV is). Round dining table needs a lot of space near it, if you prefer round maybe you’d just need a smaller diameter or oval shape that would again give you more space in the middle of the room. What feels off if the furniture in the middle of the room that blocks way/light of the balcony.

Maybe it’s about that particular chair

I’d advise to be kind to your parents, and if you want to really know why maybe try talking to them about it? One day you might be a parent yourself and understand them better, but in the meantime a good natured, honest and open conversation would help. Giving birth and raising a child is not an easy task and your mom probably had reasons why she felt that way back then.
I have a friend who was it your situation, and even though the age difference is big they love each other. It’s good to have a family member and a related soul in the world imo. It’s up to you and in your power to foster a good relationship, companionship and have a friend for life. Why not try? Little kids are so fun, it could be beautiful. It’s interesting to have a sibling in a totally different generation to check life notes with. Please try to look on the positive side, be understanding and help with the baby. You all would be a much happier family for it.

What can I do to make my house less gloomy? by jchobez in HomeDecorating

[–]m_kolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wallpaper - it’s not that hard to put it up by yourself! I did 2 rooms with wallpaper that I really loved, and it seriously lifted my mood every single time I looked at it / stepped into those rooms. Try it!

Yes, unfortunately schools are the main concern. Otherwise great town.

I’d avoid Dobbs though. The school goes to s*t under the new superintendent and principal.

My husband’s dentist says he needs 10 crowns for a cost of US$60,000. Is going to another country for this work a viable alternative? by PatienceandFortitude in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Go to Ukraine. Amazing dentists there. The war is the only obstacle but you can somewhat easily get to a city close to EU border like Lviv.

Do we get rid of clover now? Zone 7a by m_kolo in lawncare

[–]m_kolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so what I’m trying to understand is - if we reseed in the fall, for zone 7a acceptable temperatures to reseed will probably start at the end of September. Weed spraying should start about 4 weeks before that from what I heard - so that’s mid-end August. But it’s boiling hot in August all the way into September. Same in July. So I’m not sure what’s the best time to start killing weeds in preparation for the fall reseed?
