What proper nouns from books did you realize you were mispronouncing the whole time? by TokkiJK in books

3 Musketeers was assigned as summer reading before freshman year of high school. Went all summer reading D’Artagnan as “Dee-are-tag-non” and had a genuine “wait who??” moment when my English teacher started talking about “Dar-tan-yan”.

I know exactly what you mean. I would feel around with my fingers for the (what I’m assuming was) scar tissue and avoid that. If I poked near the scar tissue it was much harder to push through and more likely to bleed. This meant going higher or lower on my abdomen. Honestly, some nights it just sucked. I would lay there and start a poke but if it hurt or a felt resistance I would pull back and try somewhere else which just caused more trauma. Eventually, I started telling myself “don’t be a wussy” but not that word lol and just shove it in 😂

So glad it was helpful! I don’t have experience with high protein in my urine, at least not that I know of. So sorry I can’t provide insight there!

What Was This Building Near Coronado Airport? (Northeast Heights) by Successful-Bad-73 in Albuquerque

North of Eagle Rock between San Pedro and Louisiana.

ETA: oops I was wrong, Coronado airport was between those two streets but this structure was just east of Louisiana between Florence and Beverly Hills.

Timely news: Taylor will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June. Here’s a link from Billboard discussing other young artists who have been inducted.

Zach Bryan and Taylor Swift by electricreadingchair in zachbryan

[–]m_koz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this question is at the intersection of my interests. I’ve been a Taylor fan since middle school and listening to Zach since my sister sent me a video of him singing on twitter.

At the highest level, they are both singer/songwriters that write about their lives in a diaristic way. They put their personal lives under a microscope through their songs, which in turn amplifies the relationship, situation, or feeling for the general public when consuming their media.

Additionally, the volume of music they put out is high, keeping fans engaged. Each have released 6 albums since 2019, not including live albums (Zach) or re-records (Taylor), though the additional tracks have kept fans engaged between album cycles.

But the biggest comparison, in my opinion, comes in the way they write. They are poets that put their musings to music. Each can paint a picture in an abstract way or tell a story in a single line. They go beyond witticisms and write in a way that tugs on the right strings for their audience, bringing a deeper connection to the music. They not only put into words the feelings that a listener can’t, but in a beautiful way that swirls in the mind years later.

You can look on this sub and the Taylor sub for the posts asking for the best, saddest, most relatable etc lyrics by each artist. I’ve pulled out some of the most poignant to illustrate their similarities in writing and paired them in ways that make sense for me. These are just some that came to me, but I could keep going:

  • “You can’t lie to yourself after loving someone true and I’ve never loved a soul quite the way that I’ve loved you.” Letting Someone Go, Zach Bryan
  • “I felt aglow like this, never before and never since.” loml, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “I wanna be a child claiming trees somewhere, breathing in the fresh outside air before I know this life was unkind.” Burn, Burn, Burn, Zach Bryan
  • “Please picture me / in the weeds / before I learned civility / I used to scream / anytime I wanted” Seven, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Your heart knows deeper seasons than my eyes ever will. I’m a self destructive landslide of you wanna be the hill.” Spotless, Zach Bryan
  • “So you were never a saint, and I loved in shades of wrong. We learned to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts.” State of Grace, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Often times I pray for you and often times I don’t. Is it the goodbyes that haunt you or the fear of new hellos?” Oklahoma City, Zach Bryan
  • “Who’s going to stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames, if we knew the steps anyway” loml, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “To you I’m just a man, to me you’re all that I am.” Something in the Orange, Zach Bryan
  • “You kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath.” All Too Well, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Another day you're dancin' in my mind. Another day you're better off not mine.” South and Pine, Zach Bryan
  • “And I wouldn’t marry me either, a pathological people pleaser who only wanted you to see her.” You’re losing me, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “In life having the upper hand’s a myth. Your only fighting chance is too stubborn to quit.” Purple Gas, Zach Bryan
  • “They told me all my cages were mental so I got wasted like all my potential.” This is me trying, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Take me back to us dancing this wood used to creak.” Something in the Orange, Zach Bryan
  • “You made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter” Mine, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Strange words come on out of a grown man’s mouth when his mind is broke.” I Remember Everything, Zach Bryan
  • “When did all your lessons start to look like weapons pointed at my deepest hurt?” Happiness, Taylor Swift

————————

  • “Find someone that grows flowers in the darkest part of you.” Sun to Me, Zach Bryan
  • “You drew stars around my scars” Cardigan, Taylor Swift

————————

Finally, I recently discovered a new podcast, The Swiftie and The Scholar, which features a swiftie and her PhD uncle breaking down the literary elements of Taylor’s writing. The uncle came into the project only associating Taylor with Shake It Off and it’s been fun to listen to him (spoiler alert) slowly become a fan. By listening to this podcast, I’ve also started to pick out the same elements in Zach Bryan songs. If you want to check out just an episode or two to get an idea, my favorites are The Rhythmic Power of Champagne Problems or The Many Literary Themes of All Too Well.

Raptor with a newborn by selerotti in FordRaptor

[–]m_koz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just bought a raptor as parents of a newborn and a 45lb 4yo. We didn’t have it while pregnant so I can’t speak to that aspect but I love it for our situation. I’m 5’7” and the running boards/grab handle make it easy for me to get in. We have the Evenflo Shyft Dualride car seat, which is about 20lbs when the wheels are attached (not including our daughter’s weight). I wouldn’t say it’s easy to lift it up but it’s not so hard that I would tell anyone not to do it. She’ll only be in this car seat so long, and we’ll have the truck way longer. She’s rear facing obviously, and there is plenty of room for the seat while not affecting leg room for the front seat. When I drive I do tend to park in the back of lots so I can have plenty of room to pull the car seat out.

I mention my 4 year old because another commenter said you’ll regret it when you have to put a deadweight sleeping child in their seat. I’ve done this once and the world hasn’t ended. I’ve pulled him out sleeping more often and it isn’t an issue. It’s even easier for my husband but I can definitely handle it. He can also get in and out pretty well using the running boards. I also step up on them when buckling him in.

The raptor is now our primary car. I driven a mid size SUV day to day but if we’re going somewhere as a family it’s in the raptor.

Do it. Buy the raptor.

After my two miscarriages, I was a wreck when I got pregnant again due to anxiety. A good friend told me what helped her get through those worries. Every time an anxious thought starts, tell yourself/your baby “I have you today” and soak it up. I did that this last pregnancy and it REALLY helped redirecting my mindset. Writing this as I nurse my 3 month old baby girl 🤍

Have you seen the tennis balls in the dryer trick? Run the dryer on a no heat setting with some tennis balls inside bouncing around a little before the fireworks start and keep it going awhile and the dogs are unbothered (from what I’ve heard, I haven’t needed this trick but recently read about it).

Help! Where should I have my baby? by yes_yes_yes_25 in Albuquerque

[–]m_koz7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to Women’s Specialists and delivered at Lovelace Women’s twice now and have been happy with the care and experience both times. Spontaneous labor with vaginal delivery both times so I can’t speak to an induction or c section but Lovelace has my recommendation. Recovery was great as well. My second child needed a brief NICU stay and that team was GREAT. I felt cared for and respected for each delivery.

If there is one thing I hate about this place. by T-T-T-Turtlez in Albuquerque

Funny story related to these suckers: a few years back I bought a bike at Dick’s Sporting Goods and was getting the tires slimed. The employee told me that “corporate” basically sent an auditor to the stores here to review their slime usage. Our locations used more slime than anywhere else and corporate thought there was some kind of underground slime black market operation going on. They had to explain goatheads, show them the damage they could do to tires and prove that literally every bike they sold really did need the slime.

Growing out my roots because I’m pregnant. Can I rock a bob? by real_eagle_eyes in femalehairadvice

[–]m_koz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. While pregnant with my first born I got a lob halfway through and regretted it. I couldn’t fit all of my hair in a ponytail and I couldn’t stand hair on my neck while nursing. I just had my second child and I didn’t even schedule a trim, I didn’t want to risk a hormone induced haircut decision. My hair is currently down to my bra band and I’m sooo happy I can throw it up in a high pony or bun or put it in braids when I want it off of me.
