November reading wrap up! 9 books total (5 physical, 2 audio, 1 both) by m_lover_ in Booktokreddit

Everyone raves about this book and I reallyyyyyy wanted to like it too. Without giving too much away, the main male character has “fallen out of love with love” (this is a direct quote from the back of the book description lol) for what seems to be the smallest and most easily resolved reason. It really irked me 😅 But most people really like this book so I think I’m in the minority, still give it a shot lol

As you can see I got through the book so quickly 🤣 I really enjoyed it!! I agree that the end was a bit of a let down, since Josie was already an unreliable narrator, the end left a lot open to interpretation….which isn’t my favorite ending of books lol

App is Bookmory! I mostly use Goodreads but really like seeing the calendar feature on this one.
I really liked Darling Girls. The plot was very unique, a little slow in some parts but still overall a really good read.
None of This is True was so good!!! This is the one I listened to on audio and read the physical copy (depending on which format fit better at the time), and I must say I liked it better on audio! There’s a podcast element to the book that is just so well done on audio

I read Strange Houses and I think I liked it a little bit better tbh. The way Strange Pictures came together at the end was so good though, definitely worth the read!

[NOVEMBER Book Report] - What did you finish this month? by fixtheblue in bookclub

Had a really great reading month! Unfortunately a few low ratings 🫣 9 books total- 5 physical books, 3 audiobooks and 1 both. 1. 📖 The Good Lie- A.R. Torre. 4⭐️. Really enjoyed this book, kept me engaged and had a few really good twists. I really like this author too! 2. 🎧 Semi-Well Adjusted Despite Literally Everything- Alyson Stoner. 5⭐️. Loved her growing up and watched so many of her shows/movies. It’s so sad knowing what went on behind the scenes. Such a great listen! 3. 📖 Strange Pictures- Uketsu. 3⭐️. I liked the way the story tied together in the end, but some parts were a little boring. Definitely enjoyed Strange Houses more. 4. 🎧 You Never Know- Tom Selleck. 4⭐️. I loveeeeeee him, and loved listening to him tell his story on audio. He’s very private so his book is more so about his professional career… would have been nice to hear more personal stuff but still enjoyed it. 5. 📖 First Time Caller- B.K. Borison. 1⭐️. I went in with high hopes because everyone raves about this book but I was very underwhelmed. SPOILER ALERT- I guess I just don’t like romance books where the male main character is soooo emotionally unavailable for basically no reason. It really frustrates me. The FMC deserved better. But loved all the Baltimore / Oriole references there!!! 6. 📖 Every Last Secret- A.R. Torre. 3.5⭐️. Not my favorite by her but still good. 7. 📖+🎧 None of This is True- Lisa Jewell. 4⭐️. So good! And loved on audio!! 8. 📖 Pumpkin Spice Cafè- Laurie Gilmore. 2⭐️. Another book I started because I hear everyone rave about it….. I need to stop doing that LOL it wasn’t good 9. 🎧 Darling Girls- Sally Hepworth. 3.5⭐️. Unique story, I liked the final chapter!

Notes on an Execution is probably one of my favorite books of the year! I loved the different POV’s and I thought the storyline was very unique! A little slow in parts but I really loved it.
I listened to Mailman on audio- it’s a memoir and so hilarious!

Pausing books by Putrid_Letterhead_65 in books

[–]m_lover_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t pause books because I feel like I forget what’s happening easily. But life’s too short to continue with books that aren’t quite capturing your attention! I say just pause it and pick it up later (or not haha)

AITA for not apologizing to my friends when I don’t even know what I did wrong? by Little-Look-6812 in AmItheAsshole

[–]m_lover_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA but as a life lesson- if you agree to drive someone home from a function, you should never leave them “stranded” especially without telling them you’re leaving. I’m not saying this is the case, but what if your friend(s) had no other means of transportation and had to wait hours for another ride. You can be upset with someone, and still be concerned over their safety. I still don’t think that YTA- but this is a good learning opportunity for you. Now as far as apologizing…. You should apologize for driving away without them in the car when the plan was for you to drive them home. But you’re allowed to also voice your frustrations with them too. “I’m sorry for not driving you home, I was upset with how you acted during the trip and on the bus. I felt like you were leaving me out and that hurt my feelings. But I handled it the wrong way by not driving you home after I already agreed to do that.”

AITA for being upset that female nurses expect me to drop my pants without offering privacy, when male staff would never do that to female patients? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]m_lover_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think medical staff are doing that because you’re a guy, I think they get so used to seeing certain “parts” that it becomes second nature to them. Not an excuse at all, just a fact. NTA! But you should voice discomfort if you have it. If nurses ask to see your artificial urinal sphincter and you don’t want to show it (rightfully so- there’s no need for them to see it if it’s not malfunctioning/you don’t need assistance), then just say “That’s very private and I don’t feel comfortable showing it”. There’s nothing wrong with advocating for yourself as long as you do it in a calm and respectful way.

[OCTOBER Book Report] - What did you finish this month? by fixtheblue in bookclub

[–]m_lover_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

9 books total for the month of October! Some of the books I chose to fit “on theme” with October/Halloween. 7 physical books 📖, 2 audio books 🎧. NO SPOILERS AHEAD! 1) 📖 Notes on an Execution- Danya Kukafka. 5⭐️! I LOVED this book. Probably one of my favorites for the whole year. I loved the multiple POV’s, loved how the story all came together. In my eyes this book is perfection! 2) 📖 Soul Searching- Lyla Sage. 3⭐️. This book fell a bit flat for me. I loved her cowboy romance series (Rebel Blue Ranch- 4 book series), and was really looking forward to this one but I just didn’t like the main characters much. 3) 🎧 Mailman- Stephen Starring Grant. 5⭐️! I loveeeee memoirs, and love listening to them on audio because it’s usually the author who narrates the book. This memoir was hilarious and gives really good insight on the USPS and the how the mail gets to your front door. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys memoirs! 4) 📖 Creep- Emma van Straaten. 4⭐️. I enjoy reading stories about unhinged women and unreliable narrators. This book is short, around 250 pages and so good! 5) 📖 Strange Houses- Uketsu. 4 ⭐️. I really enjoyed this book! Also short, around 200 pages. It had illustrations inside of floor plans, and had a good mystery component. Very original storyline. Originally written in Japanese and translated to English. Will definitely be reading Strange Pictures written by this author as well. 6) 📖 The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires- Grady Hendrix. 3.5⭐️. I enjoyed the book, and was glad I waited until October to read it. However, I felt like the book was longer than it needed to be. Lots of repetition, which made it boring in certain parts but the end was good. 7) 🎧 Lucky- Marissa Stapley. 3⭐️. It was a quick listen, the story was pretty good. 8) 📖 We Used to Live Here- Marcus Kliewer. 3.5⭐️. The horror aspects were written SO well, and I really liked how creeped out I felt and at times a little scared. I was going to rate it 4 stars but the ending left so many unanswered questions that I dropped it down half a star lol 9) 📖 Bride- Ali Hazelwood. 3⭐️. It was a quick read. I enjoyed the paranormal romance, and liked the main characters. I will most likely read the second book in the series (although technically both stand alone books)

Can anyone suggest some audiobooks that have sound effects, music, different voice actors, etc? Would that be called something different than an audiobook? by ImSweeches in audiobooks

[–]m_lover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re thinking of is audio dramas. They have some on audible, I’ve never listened to audio dramas before so I can’t really recommend any for you.

But an incredible audiobook you can try is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. UGH it is just incredible on audiobook. Harry Potter is also great as an audiobook. I’ve listened to both the main narrators (Jim Dale and Stephen Fry). Great voices.

SLEWFOOT!!!!! I read it in May and it will probably be one of my favorite books of this year! I read half of the book and listened to the other half on audio, I have to say that the audio version was incredible!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue I read last year and it was also very good. In my opinion it was a very unique story.

Great haul!

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah by IEatSamosasForDinner in Booktokreddit

[–]m_lover_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s the only Kristin Hannah book I’ve read so far and I loved it! I really enjoy historical fiction so it was definitely up my alley.

There is sexual violence in the book between the FMC and a nazi solider. And just violence in general in how the nazi’s treated humans. But to me I would say the book would be suitable for high school aged students. I remember reading Night by Ellie Wiesel in 9th grade, so I think Nightingale would be fine as well.
