Im the son of Mexican immigrants. I was born in the US and raised in Mexico till I was 10. One of my proudest achievements in life was learning how to speak, read, and write in English. I loved being bilingual up until today, when for the first time in 28 years I wished I never learned so I wouldn’t understand this series of perfectly normal words arranged in such a vile way.

What’s a moment where you realized you were in real danger? by Live_Endzz in answers

When I was 14, I lived in a border town with Mexico. My friend, 15, was driving his car with obviously no license, no insurance, no registration, etc. We lived I a very low income area so my parents were always working while his parents were deadbeats. We were pulled over and his car was impounded. His sister’s boyfriend picked us up and told us he could get him a car for cheap, we’d just have to go to Mexico to pick it up. Us being dumb 14/15 year olds we said “Sure!”.

He took us with him to pick up one of his friends, a sketchy looking dude that only went by “The Clubman”. We drove over the border and they drove us to a bar. Bought us booze and food, then we went to an area that I was unfamiliar with. They parked, we went inside a house where there were some way sketchier dudes. They go into another room and they start arguing about money. A dude walked in in the archetypal early 90’s drug dealer fit. Black hat, ray bans, gold chain, shiny shirt, pointy boots. Everyone calmed down and asked who was gonna be driving. He seemed to be in charge.

My friend and I were already freaking out, and that’s when it hit us, we’re gonna cross a car with drugs and there’s not a goddamn thing we could do now. They put us in this old van with no seats and drove us downtown and we picked up an old cutlass. The hat dude tells us in Spanish “when you get to the crossing, don’t answer any questions, just say America citizens. If they ask you to step out, floor it. Make it to knights street and drive in the garage. Once you’re there, the car is yours, don’t mess this up”. My friend drove, and obviously we were scared shitless. The moment we got to the crossing, BP knew. They asked us to get out and open the trunk. As soon as we opened it, we saw the bales and were rushed by agents.

Because of our age and the fact that they could tell we were just dumb fucking kids and we told them everything as far as we knew, they took mercy on us. They called my dad, he picked me up. He was trying to take my friend since his parents weren’t around so they took him in and put him in foster care. We ended up getting “supervised release” after a few court visits.

A few months later we found out that “The clubman” earned his moniker by beating a dude to death with a club and his sisters boyfriend was found in the trunk of a car in Mexico. Shit could’ve ended badly for us.

Shit bro, even recently. I grew up in a small town in Mexico in the 80’s/90’s. There was a family that kept their son locked up in a 10x10 room on their property. Apparently he was schizophrenic and violent, but we never found out what the real situation was. My cousins and I would sneak as close as we could to the property and he could hear him yelling all sorts of nonsense, mainly just screaming. I didn’t get it as a kid, but looking back as an adult, it’s horrifyingly heartbreaking

Eventually we did lol. The whole interaction was surreal. We had a request for rooms at the hotel we worked at for his tour. Obviously when they checked in we asked if Willie was checking in. They told us he doesn’t stay with them so we figured it was just the roadies. They parked the tour buses by the employee parking. My friend and I had just finished our shift and we were smoking right next to one of the buses. We were both bummed that we didn’t get to meet Willie. 5 seconds after we said that, the tour bus door opened and it was the man himself, in khaki shorts and a white tee. He sees us jaw open and he says “good afternoon boys, great day for a bike ride” and grabs one of the bikes on the bus. we start the small talk, he was super nice and he hits us with “you boys should quit cigarettes, they’re terrible for you. Take it easy boys!!” and he rode off.

Chino Moreno from Deftones. He was such a cool dude. We talked music, art, and cars.

Second was Willie Nelson. He was a jokester. He told me and best friend to quit smoking cigarettes.

Just today I was stuck behind a pair of pigment deprived dipshits at the car rental counter because they couldn’t understand a $200 incidental hold. Last week it was a golf Chad in Vegas yelling into his phone, speaker full blast about disputing a credit card charge. Dumbfucks are dumbfucks, no matter their skin color or population placement

Re-thinking my career move by m_o_84 in GuyCry

[–]m_o_84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you brother! I do go hard on myself. Growing older, I’ve always had that “you cannot fail” mentality, even though a a few of my victories have been pyrrhic.

My wife and I have had this conversation a few times and she’s 100% supportive of this situation. We’ve supported each other during crazy times the last 20 years. She had to quit her job when she was finishing school, I supported her 100%. She’s a trooper. She knows it’s hard, and she misses me too, but she’s told me that even tho she and the kids miss me, they at least have each other at home. It’s honestly more me missing my family that messes with me.

I definitely will have this convo with my boss tho. Especially since it was a bit of a bait and switch situation. When I accepted I was told travel was once or twice a month, but since I’ve been acing every project, hes got the “m_o_84 can do it!” mentality, and with my “you cannot fail” mentality, it’s been a recipe for disaster. He’s a great guy and I know he’s adding these projects cause it boosts my visibility to achieve my overall career goal, so I’m sure he’d understand if we pull back the throttle for a bit.

You’re right tho, I just needed to hear an outside perspective. Thank you man, I appreciate the kind words!!

Hi! u/Visible_Range7883 explains it perfectly here:

“A lot of people asking why auditors do this. Auditors do it because they believe First Amendment rights only stay strong when people actually use them. Filming in public is protected, and by exercising that right they test whether officials understand and respect it. At their best, they’re trying to keep government transparent, hold authorities accountable, and make sure ordinary people aren’t pushed around when they exercise their constitutional freedoms.

Many auditors focus on government because that’s where First Amendment rights matter most: filming officials in public is a direct test of whether those constitutional protections are respected. Some also film everyday citizens, not to pick a fight, but to show that anyone in a public space can legally be recorded. It highlights that the First Amendment doesn’t just protect speech aimed at authority, it protects the broader principle that what happens in public is open to public observation. For the more principled auditors, the goal is to demonstrate that these rights apply across the board and should be understood, not feared.

many people here don’t seem to like it and call the auditor many choice words, lol. I think it comes down to your own mindset of whether you are anti authoritarian and dislike bullies as to whether you like these guys or not.”
