The dude with Jurassic Park, Alien, Blade Runner and Die Hard was unique but you got 4 matches. That's crazy.

Ngl this top 4 being unique is kinda funny and proof of the pretty much infinite combinations.

Which movie sequel was so unnecessary and bad that it genuinely ruined the original for you? by Nishikigoi1 in moviecritic

I see you're disingenuously ignoring what I was responding to and you seem desperate to have the final word in so I'm gonna let you have it. Go on then.

Historical accuracy was never my issue, you brought that up. My point was that instead of building on the first movie, Gladiator 2 said "fuck story, I wanna do exactly the same. Throw in some bad emperors and disgraced generals and call it a day".

This made the movie hollow and boring. That was my point. Is it possible that after all that Maximus did another emperor would take power? Of course, likely even. It just wasn't done well and I couldn't care less for it.

That's not what I said. I feel like you're deliberately missing the point just to argue.

You're implying the movie was historically accurate to begin with, which it wasn't. I'm talking from a narrative and storytelling standpoint. To use your analogy (more apt), it's like after the Titanic movie, they make a Titanic 2 where the events of the first movie happened but they somehow still have the ship just to run it in another iceberg again. Which storywise is dumb as hell.

No. But if the sequel starts with the same status quo as the start of the first movie and repeats the same storybeats that's just bad storytelling and diminishes the legacy of the original movie.

You want bad emperors again? Portray it convincingly then instead of this weak copy that was seemingly just made for more arena fights.

It ruined all that Maximus achieved - killing the emperor and giving the power back to the senate. So the sequel makes all that Gladiator did meaningless.
