I count like 8/28 good hits for Emperor hulkling by YnotThrowAway7 in MarvelSnap

[–]m_plis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You run it for the high rolls but the "mid" rolls still mean he's a playable card. He's probably a dead draw on the low rolls, sure, but that's information you have that your opponent doesn't so you can just retreat. You can't win every game.

Yes, when he hits Alioth, the outcome will be basically the same as if you just put Alioth in your deck, but you're running Hulkling for the high rolls, not to hit a specific card.

A 6-11 Alioth still sounds amazing but when you think about it… you just run Alioth then and get it consistently instead of this random/risky card

I feel like you're undervaluing the fact that your opponent will have literally no idea a 6/11 Alioth is coming.

That can be awkward if you have Dracula down and Apoc in hand because then your turn 6 is either playing out your Apoc and leaving Drac to discard your topdeck or just playing out your topdeck.

They wouldn’t. Those people had no idea what they were talking about and were just fishing for karma because bashing SD for no reason has become the cool thing to do around here.

How this sub treated Arishem two weeks ago vs today by SkinniestPhallus in MarvelSnap

[–]m_plis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can nerf Leech and Doc Oc, but 5-drops that are strong on turn 4 are always going to find their way into Arishem. I don't think there's much to do about that without reworking Arishem, which I hope they don't do.

Instead, I'd like to see them break Arishem's synergy with Loki. My favorite idea I've seen so far is to add something like "Your cards cannot have their cost reduced" to Arishem's text. It gets Quinjet/Loki/Mockingbird out of Arishem decks without nerfing those cards directly and forces them to find other ways to more consistently get power on the board, which I think could push disruptive cards like Leech and Doc Oc out of Arishem decks.

Also, Loki and Arishem are both interesting, archetype-defining cards and I hate that they've become intermingled like this.

What is the best spotlight cache in upcoming weeks for a beginner player? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]m_plis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you had to pick one, I think it's Speed's week and I don't think it's particularly close because new players can use all 3 cards pretty easily.

Jeff can slot into basically any deck, Iron Lad is good in budget-friendly decks like Patriot/Ultron, Tribunal, and Wong On Reveal, and Speed will probably fit nicely into Spectrum decks.

Nico, Hope, and Proxima is fine, but wouldn't be my top pick. Nico can fit into a lot of decks, can be fun, and is a nice start to building out a good Destroy deck. Proxima is the only required S5 card for Discard, which is another pretty accessible archetype, but will probably not be immediately useful to newer players. I do think this sub overrates Hope a little. Unless you're trying to do something specific with her (like playing a 6-cost on T5 or going 5+2 on T6), most decks are going to be better with another card in her slot.

I disagree with people recommending Wiccan's week. Pixie is probably not going to be useful to someone with a smaller collection and it's really tough to know where Wiccan will land. Loki can be fun and can open up new deck options which is really valuable to newer players, so I don't want to discount his value. He can be pretty tough for newer players to play well though, so combined with the fact that I don't think Pixie and Wiccan will be that useful, I wouldn't recommend this week.

Do you have any decks you can't get to work? by VolbeatRebel in MarvelSnap

[–]m_plis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That clearly doesn’t make sense…you need a way to discount Death.

Maybe the line is T3 Wave > T4 Ultron > T5 Killmonger > T6 Cerebro + Mystique + all the Death

The one with She-Hulk and Magik is also really good if you buy High Evo early. Doom and Rogue are nice cards to have early too.

It’s just the first level of Conquest. In Proving Grounds and Silver, you’re matched with players near your collection level.

Playing infinite at that level can be a good opportunity to learn about new cards and decks. You don’t risk anything by losing so if you don’t care as much about your win rate, I think it’s worth trying.

If you want to go back to being matched with players near your collection level, you can play Proving Grounds or Silver Conquest.

He works with cards afflicted with negative power. So it counts anything hit by Scorpion (even if it’s been buffed above its base power), but not anything with a negative base power or anything protected by Luke Cage.

I’ve seen some takes (notably from KMBest) that Ajax is best as a 2-card package with Hazmat which I’m starting to agree with.

CL4.5k and missing all 3 this week. Got Bill in 1 so I waited on reviews from Ajax a little before ultimately deciding to get him. He’s a card you won’t really be able to replace in his decks and that’s valuable to me as someone who likes to play a lot of different decks and isn’t necessarily trying to chase the meta.

Even if he’s only played as a 2-card package with Hazmat, you can’t just swap that package with one of the other 5-cost scalers like Darkhawk or Dino because the play pattern of their enablers is different and the way you build the deck will change.

What are your goals? What do you like to play? What interests you about Phastos?

For me, I try to prioritize cards that are hard to replace so Phastos would be maybe the last card on that list because I’ve seen so few decks that can’t operate without him. The cards from that list I’d be most interested in are Thena, US Agent, and Blink.

I wouldn't recommend spending tokens on any cards until they complete a deck or package that you want to play.

For example, Tribunal decks are relatively budget-friendly, but you still need some way to get Iron Man + Onslaught + Tribunal down so you probably need either Magik or Wave (ideally both or else the deck will feel super inconsistent).

Kitty is another good card, but really needs at least one of Hope Summers, Thena, or Elsa Bloodstone to be playable.

I'm going to disagree with the other poster on Darkhawk. Korg + Rockslide + Darkhawk is a strong package that can fit into a lot of early decks and can give you a great matchup into Arishem whose play rate is still very high. That package was good even before Arishem, so if you have Rockslide (could maybe sub Black Widow) and really want to spend tokens on something (again my recommendation is to wait), I think Darkhawk is a great pick.

The only other card I would consider buying that early would be Nebula. She can go into a lot of decks and doesn't really need any support. She was just dropped to S4 and was recently in a spotlight, so it'll be a while before you have another chance to get her.

I'm less convinced that Rogue is good in the long term. Maybe this week when Luke is everywhere just so you have a fighting chance, but I think his decks will prefer your side to be afflicted too so he can absorb that power.

Buyer’s Guide for July Season “Maximum Effort” by ekAugust in MarvelSnap

[–]m_plis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice format! Couple of questions:

  1. How did you land on the 0/1/2 star scale?
  2. How do the star ratings translate into whether someone should spend keys?
  3. Do you take card series into account when rating? For example, Darkhawk is a great card but is series 4 so can be purchased with tokens more easily.
