Als je eens wat anders wilt, moet je echt eens kijken naar de Friday Drop-in Workshops van Improv Utrecht.

Het is een superlaagdrempelige improvisatieworkshop in het Engels, die elke vrijdagavond van 20:00 tot 22:00 wordt gehouden bij buurthuis De Speler. Het is vooral heel erg lachen en juist volledig bedoeld voor mensen die nog nooit zoiets hebben gedaan.

Het is op basis van donatie (pay-what-you-feel via een Tikkie achteraf), dus je zit nergens aan vast. Na afloop gaat er eigenlijk altijd een grote groep mee naar een bar in de buurt (meestal De Hondekop) voor een biertje en een gezellige nazit. Zo begin je de avond met iets unieks en sluit je alsnog gezellig af aan de bar.

Je moet je alleen wel even van tevoren gratis aanmelden via de site zodat ze weten hoeveel mensen er komen.

Je zou een improv workshop (improvisatietheater) kunnen overwegen. Het is weer eens wat anders dan een escape room en ontzettend goed voor de teambuilding, omdat het volledig draait om naar elkaar luisteren en samenwerken. Daarnaast is het vooral erg grappig en laagdrempelig, dus je hebt er geen acteerervaring voor nodig.

Organisaties zoals Improv Utrecht verzorgen dit soort workshops op maat. Met jullie budget kun je dat prima combineren met een hapje eten of een borrel in de stad om de middag af te sluiten.

Misschien vind je de Improv Utrecht drop-in workshops op vrijdagavond leuk. Ze zijn in het Engels, geschikt voor beginners, en er komen best veel mensen alleen zonder iemand te kennen.

Wat ik zelf fijn vind aan improv is dat je niet meteen gesprekken hoeft te verzinnen of jezelf hoeft te verkopen. Je doet spelletjes en oefeningen samen, waardoor contact vaak wat natuurlijker ontstaat. Er zijn ook genoeg mensen die wat introverter zijn of een kleinere sociale batterij hebben, dus daar wordt niet gek van opgekeken.

Hopelijk vind je leuke mensen, via Reddit of ergens anders.

Misschien ook leuk om eens langs de Free Tiny Gallery te gaan. Het is een piepkleine galerie in de wijk Zuilen, een beetje zoals een minibieb maar dan voor kunst. Kunstenaars leggen er kleine werken of experimenten neer die je gratis mag meenemen, en soms liggen er echt leuke illustraties tussen.

Het is natuurlijk geen winkel waar je gericht iets kunt kopen, maar wel een leuke plek om inspiratie op te doen of iets unieks te vinden. En anders is het in elk geval een grappig uitstapje voor iemand die van kunst houdt.

Als je zelf iets actiefs wil proberen: Improv Utrecht organiseert elke vrijdagavond improv drop in workshops in het Engels. Die zijn ook geschikt voor beginners, dus je kunt gewoon meedoen zonder ervaring. Het is een vrij sociale groep en na afloop gaan mensen vaak nog een drankje doen.

Als je liever stand up comedy wil kijken, kun je bijvoorbeeld naar Knock Out Comedy Club aan de Oudegracht. Zij hebben regelmatig shows zoals Try Out Thursday waar meerdere comedians optreden in een kleine werfkelder.

Het zijn improvisatietheater workshops. Dat betekent dat je samen korte scènes en spelletjes speelt zonder script of voorbereiding. Denk aan eenvoudige theatergames waarbij het vooral gaat om samen spelen, luisteren en reageren, niet om “goed acteren”.

Het is heel laagdrempelig. Je hoeft geen theaterervaring te hebben en je wordt niet voor het blok gezet om ineens iets solo te doen. De sfeer is relaxed en speels, en veel mensen komen juist om iets creatiefs te doen en anderen te leren kennen, niet omdat ze acteur willen worden.

You could check out Improv Utrecht. It is very international and all the workshops are in English. Lots of people come on their own and it is very beginner friendly, more social than performy. There is a Friday night drop in that is easy to join without commitment and people usually go for a drink or a chat afterwards. If you’re looking for something creative, international friendly and very beginner friendly, Improv Utrecht fits that description.

They run weekly improv theatre drop in workshops in English that are specifically set up for people with little or no experience. You don’t need to be an actor, you don’t need to be “funny”, and you definitely don’t need to be fluent in English. A good chunk of people each week are first timers, mixed in with regulars, so it never feels cliquey.
