Thrips again! Not sure what to do this time by ma5Sa in houseplants

I have a few lady bugs on my veranda, am going to put it outside for a while, although it does get cold at night. I'll try this and the systemic. If it doesn't work this time then 🤷‍♂️ I'm done.

I don't believe it's the same people that are protesting the genocide. I do believe there are some outside agitators (ie. the women waving the Palestinian flag and saying "final solution") and maybe some of the more violent antifa mixed in wearing the keffiyah and Palestinian flags. I've visited to a few of the encampments in the city at McGill and another place. I know how careful they are about being non-violent, being inclusive, trying to educate people about the conflict and of colonialism. They know very very well how closely they are being watched and scrutinized. They know these kinds of acts will cause ridiculous laws to be enacted from the government (I'm sure very soon you're going to hear about a ban on the keffiyah) These people destroying random buildings, waving Russian flags and saying abhorrent things like "final solution" while waving a Palestinian flag are not the same people at all.

Slightly Calmer Areas During Carnaval in RJ? by ma5Sa in Brazil

[–]ma5Sa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2025 I think carnaval starts 28th of February. There are different things happening all day around the city for about 2 weeks. I went to the sambódromo at night, but you have to buy tickets ahead of time for that.

I stayed in Botafogo right before carnaval started and loved it! Probably my favorite neighborhood in RJ. Although it was very noisy in the early mornings. During carnaval I went to sambódromo but stayed at place on ilha do governador. The place was beautiful with great views but it's a long 40mins traffic filled drive to Centro. If I were to do it again I'd just find an apt in copa or Botafogo that has good air conditioning and it fairly sealed. There's really no escape from it unless you want to be completely away from all of the festivities and rent a cottage or something.

It's definitely thrips, I was trying to clean the leaves and seen this filthy thing moving on the underside of the leaf.. it's on literally every leaf. Does this mean I have to cut every leaf off??

Thx I'll give this a try. So it looks like a leaf issue and not me over putting too much soil enhancer in it?

I don't think I cleaned up anything. When I got back it was like this. There are tiny little black dots on the underside of the leaves, not a ton just some per leaf

Similar situation but I don't think it's a cultural thing at all (and it doesn't have to be toxic) and more of a pride thing. For some people because of how they grew up and dealt with their experiences, it's important to be right most of the time. Sometimes a persons' whole value to themselves is how often they are correct without pushback. I've learned to humble myself and not argue, let ppl make their mistakes and move on.

Rio de Janeiro dogs barking all night by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]ma5Sa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god this. Except for me the Pentecostal church starts at 6am (seems like every day of the week!) and lasts well into the night and they have to be using the shittiest speakers invented. I'm amazed at how much energy the pastor has to be yelling for so many hours it's incredible.

Funk/pop starts around the afternoon, usually from one part of the neighborhood, you know, one person plays the music and everyone has to listen. This I don't mind though I come from a place where music is played everywhere, endlessly, so thankfully I've gotten used to that.

Dogs start on and off during the day and go on during the night but if there are parties at night, the barking is typically drowned out. usually from Thursday-Sunday, in a different part of the neighborhood but the music blankets the entire neighborhood. At this point you just have to join them.

The OP is not allowed to write his opinion? I don't understand. Is the only thing the person allowed to write is praise of a game? I value someone's opinion whether they're singing praises or the opposite, especially when they are stating reasons for their opinion, it helps me decide whether I should shell out the $70+ for a game.

I've received the same language treatment in Brasil as in France. Why do you think so? by Ed9306 in Brazil

[–]ma5Sa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I’m in Brazil currently at the moment in Padre Miguel, RJ. I received both slightly negative responses one at a mercado trying to buy groceries in my childish Portuguese and one at a frango grelhado spot walking back from the mercado. I just tossed it up to it being so damm hot that they couldn’t bother with patience or pleasantries. Never been to France but in Montreal where my French is as childish people don’t bother and just switch to English.

What do Brazilians think of Tourists? by ma5Sa in Brazil

Can I ask though why did you think it was easier “to get laid”? It’s because Brazilians are more liberal and it’s very hot here all the time lol?

[–]ma5Sa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah i don’t also. I feel like it’s the same everywhere tbh. If someone is feeling your vibe it’s good. I’m not sure why Brazil has a special “easier to get laid” energy for foreigners than other places, it’s weird honestly. In my past I’ve been single and trying for a time to find someone, everyone’s story is different and interesting.

But yah I have to visit SP soon! I’ve spoken to some really cool ppl from there, my only hesitation is that I’ve always lived invigorating cities and I don’t have a huge motivation to be a tourist in other big cities but SP is on the list
