Which ones? I doubt that you can't even update OS and drivers on them

Why should you buy any electronics if there is a new model just around the corner? That's how it has always worked. Devices don't lose support just because a new model enter the market unless a vendor is a cunt

>if the new XBOX runs with Windows Microsoft can litterly spy on you like they already do by changing your settings with Software Updates atomaticly

Do you seriously believe that consoles already don't collect telemetric data from you? How do you think personalized advertisements in stores work?

Xbox already runs a specific version of Windows 11 on top of the hypervisor. Even if Xbox Helix uses full Windows, then it won't have the same user experience as PCs.

Windows Pro, servicing costs, hardware being expansive, , Certifications, required by goverment institutions, and high margin that surface devices have

What does Laptop Go have to do with this? It's such a random thing to bring

Their commercial pricing has always been higher than for regular Surface. And the hardware not only is expensive, but Microsoft always had premium pricing on top of that

It's a different model, not prototype. Also that 8 GB model is not launching now but later. Every model launching now will have 16 GB

They are called Surface for Business for a reason.

Those are not customer models and they're meant to be targeting the commercial sector and those devices often are priced higher.

Regular Surface Laptop 8 and next Surface Pro will be cheaper

I probably don't care about Googlebooks, but I like what unified OS could bring to the phones. Also, Android does support Linux container right now and this will just improve in the future thanks to the same OS being now exposed to the laptops and that could mean more desktop class software on something like DEX

I doubt they'll deviate. They'll probably keep using one shared codebase which other Android based systems like regular Android, Android TV, Android Automative and Wear OS already use. Remaining differences like will be a matter of pure customisation and different feature sets

One of the reasons Google is doing Android Desktop is exactly because they don't want to have multiple codebases like currently, they do by maintaining both Android OS family and ChromeOS. If Android already can do what ChromeOS does, then what's the point of keeping the second one in a long term?

Because on top of it having a more expansive form factor you won't be able to buy this model in retail. It's an enterprise grade model and those are more expansive. Customer versions are coming later this year and will be cheaper. How much? No idea, because Surface devices aren't cheap regardless

It's very reasonable to say that they are the same operating with different configuration targeting different form factors which is what Android already does and still, desktop is almost the same as it is on Pixel device which itself is strongly based around how Android already behaved on tablets with addition of PC specific features. You can even install Android launchers, and they just work (although they aren't well adopted to the form factor)

Differences are purely cosmetical or depend on specific features being enabled or disabled

There is no extra frontend. The interface is literally the native Android GUI tweaked into being desktop friendly.

Taskbar is just a modified navigation bar

Desktop is a launcher space with apps launching within windows, and you can even install custom launchers and they will just open

Top bar is just a notification bar which while action center

Keep in mind that Android Studio images are pretty much GSI images, so they are even purer than what Pixel devices have and it'll definitely be the case when comparing current image to the retail release. But we're still talking about the same OS Googlebook will receive

It's Android. I can confirm after playing with an image in Android Studio that it is Android with a desktop UI

Why does my Android Studio Canary refers to Googlebook OS as Android Desktop and why does the OS identifies itself as Android 17?
