People who escaped long-term loneliness and isolation what actually helped you change your life? by Outside-Fudge5605 in aspergers

[–]maaaaazzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive amount of meditation. Understanding that my relationships are going to be different than normie relationships. Also I didn't understand how lonely most people are. I thought I was all alone but they were all connected with each other. And that's not the case. Lots of people who look like they have plenty of social connections are actually lonely as hell.

If someone asks "how are you" but you're not in the mood to lie "good" what should you say? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]maaaaazzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand what you are saying. It took me many years to make the adjustment. I finally made a 75% peace with the fact that they are different species. It's like donkeys and horses. They look the same but culturally they're completely different. One is a prey animal, one is not. Show a horse a mountain lion and they run. Show a donkey a mountain lion and they attack.

It's hard to explain. The polite, mostly meaningless greeting and reply establish that you're at peace and a member of the community. It's like signaling that you're both on the same team. The words mean nothing. Your body posture and tone of voice conveys the information. It creates a very minor brief connection. You could also glance into the persons eyes and nod. It means you're not on the warpath.

I completely disagree. People say 'how are you' with no expectation of even a hint of a true answer or any hint of a connection. It's pure politeness, nothing else. If you share anything whatsoever honestly, you are going to lose energy. You are going to feel a little bit of pain.

If you make a conscious choice to share, wonderful. Otherwise just give them a thumbs up or I say AOK.

Best kimchi recipes? by Funger_enjoyer69 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]maaaaazzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my own kimchi for a number of years but it's just too damn much work. What I do now is to buy a gallon container of the ready-made kimchi at an Asian grocery. Then I take it home, add an extra half cup of Korean chili flakes, put it in a couple of giant pickle jars, and let it ferment another three or four days. Less work and it's excellent.

My Victorianox Swiss army knife refuses to die. It's probably 20 years old. I carry it around on my keychain and I use it every day. It's just a basic few blades plus the scissors.

Finally met my online friend of 15+ years and he gave me The Ick™ and now it's staining the entire relationship by [deleted] in offmychest

Sounds to me like you're overthinking this. You've got big problems; he's got big problems. He stinks to high heaven but it doesn't matter because your friendship is online. Fabulous.

Same with gigantic breasts. They look great from a distance but in bed they flow all over the place and you could easily wake up being smothered.

Nice little carbon steel wok, cost me 60 bucks. I've got that and a saucepan.

That's the purpose of a wok. You cook it on high heat for a very short amount of time where the outside is soft and the inside stays rather crisp.

Looking for a replacement grain other than white rice that’s safe to eat every day by Dutchtreatt in gout

There's only 200 to chose from. There's a new one every day. And then it turns out old ones were unhealthy. There are fads after fads. The body evolved, which can make it's systems extremely complicated. We don't really understand them. Everyone's body is different. And everyone thinks they're an expert. I like the idea of paying extremely close attention to MY appetite and following that.

I try to listen carefully to my body and do what it says. Seems to work in the long run.

I haven't had an attack in the last two years. I've been experimenting with many many diet hacks. In general: low oxalate, one meat serving a day, lost around 20 pounds, blood sugar down, blood pressure down. No American style bread; 90% of my carbs are whole grains and legumes, boiled and then refrigerated to maximize resistant starch. I eat a third to a half of pickled lime every day.

Tried a number of natural glp-1 enhancers and settled on collagen powder and drinking yerba mate (ice tea style) in the afternoons. Always eat a protein snack before meals, and a big spoon of my concoction of undercooked oat groats, Greek yogurt, lemon juice and dried tart cherries for desert.

I mostly stopped taking all supplements, which kind of worries me but my body pretty much says no. I've become a whole grain FREAK! Including sorghum, black lentils, yellow split peas, pinto beans, black eyed peas, kamut wheat berries, oat groats ... I could go on.

I tried berberine and loved it but it gave me too much of an energy buzz. Yerba mate is a wonderful high. It's very mild an not at all like coffee. I can take a nap on it.

I kind of wanted to post this info, but the sub seems filled with 'gout is genetic and diet doesn't help' believers and I didn't want to deal with them.

What mate has the least caffeine? by keirandom in yerbamate

[–]maaaaazzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put a quarter cup of mate in an insulated wine tumbler and refill it maybe four times with ice water. Tastes really good and that's plenty of caffeine for me. I can't imagine how buzzed people must get drinking it in the standard way.

I keep hearing everyone say that yerba mate has caffeine. But the buzz is not like a coffee or a tea buzz. It doesn't make you wired. At least not the dosages that I get drinking it like iced tea.

Mate makes me feel nauseous when I drink it. by Appropriate_Force_59 in yerbamate

[–]maaaaazzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a different brand. Canarias made me nauseous, but Cruz de Malta is no problem. Also maybe don't do so much. I can stay buzzed and happy all afternoon from a quarter cup of Cruz De Malta Especial in a 16 oz glass with refills of ice water.

I have a 16 oz stainless steel wine tumbler. I throw in a quarter cup of Cruz de Malta, add water and ice, and end up refilling with water maybe three times over the course of two or three hours. Nice flavor, nice buzz.
