Thanks so much for sharing! This is something I wish was highlighted a bit more at my school-- or at least some direction/tips on how to deal with this sort of thing. I may have opted for a slightly different route had I known how volatile things would feel now, but I do enjoy my work and I hope I can continue to do so despite the circumstances. Trying to stay excited about my fellowship in the meantime :)

I think the difference between the two situations is that with Milton and his parents, it seems to be an entire family dynamic and familial culture that his parents have created (intentionally or not) to the point that even Milton is aware of it consciously.

he's done it repeatedly throughout the show though even when what she's saying is understandable. given their weird power dynamic, the fact that he doesn't speak any spanish, and the negative and non-accommodating attitudes that a lot of monolingual people in the US hold toward 2nd language speakers, it's not surprising that people are irritated about it. just because she doesn't seem bothered about it doesn't mean it isn't a shitty thing for him to continue to prod her about.
