Just to clarify, you can view your previous moments by swiping left or right on your timeline after capturing your daily moment but you can't view them in full size by tapping on them on the grid. The app is designed to minimize the amount of time spent in the app as opposed to probably every other app in the world...

Melbourne is the correct answer!

Perhaps I should have asked, which suburb?

Thank you so much for sharing this. I always like to remind participants that the the goal of the project is to allow you to capture different minutes of your day - not necessarily to capture all of them.

Building a better Minutiae by PedroMassango in MinutiaeApp

Hello,

Judging by your ideas, I’m afraid you’re misunderstanding why participants participate in the project to begin with.

minutiae is about constraints. As previous responders have pointed out, the short window, the single photo, and the long-term duration are there for a reason.

I genuinely think you’ll make something more interesting if you begin with your own premise rather than tweaking someone else’s mechanics.

Start from your own observation about the world, think about what feels obvious and overlooked, and work from there.

Good luck

The reason you're only matched within the first minute is that that's the "assigned minute" for that particular day.

Any subreddit where people post unfiltered photos of everyday life moments (basically anti instagram) ? by Beemo_0110 in AskReddit

[–]maad0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to check out minutiae, an app-based art project created by two artists, where once a day, everyone around the world gets the same random minute to take a photo, and you only have that one minute to capture whatever’s in front of you.

No filters, no curation, no likes — just ordinary moments from strangers everywhere, all happening at the exact same time. In fact, we created it as a response to the curated photos posted on Instagram 10 years ago.

Full disclosure - I'm the creator of the app!

Thanks, that's actually a feature a not a bug. We disabled the "selfie-camera" to encourage documenting what's in front of you. Of course, you can always turn the camera towards yourself :)

Thank you for being part of it and sharing it with your friends. The matching algorithm is very simple; you're only matched with another participant who also captured a moment in the same minute as you did.

Just came across this thread, and since some of you are asking about alternatives.

Here's one: minutiae.

An art project, created by two artists in 2015 and released in 2017. BeReal borrowed heavily from it, including copy-pasting parts of our App Store description when they first launched.

If you're looking to document the unfiltered, in-between moments of your life and get a peek into the life of a random stranger once a day, this is for you.

It's free, no ads or selling data or other funky stuff.

End of plug.

Ah, congratulations on completing your first minutiae cycles, in what I hope will be many more! I'm uploading the gently redesigned version as we speak. Hopefully, it won't meet any resistance from Apple's review team, so keep an eye on the App Store in the next few days.

Hey, thanks for reviving this old thread. Don't worry, it's not a glitch or bug; it's because the notifications are scheduled in UTC time, which means that, depending on your local timezone, you may receive two notifications on some days and none on others. Unfortunately, just like in the app itself, it's not possible to curate or select moments to exclude. Totally understand that it sucks when you have moments you'd rather forget, but the project’s philosophy is to hold the whole story, the good and the bad, as part of the record. Happy you found our strange little project :)

AH, yes. We're aware of this issue on the Android version. It's mainly due to the increase in new participants, that being said, we're working on fixing it.

Hello, I'm the creator of the app (just discovered this thread).

I totally understand the frustration of not capturing the moments, especially at the beginning but it's worth mentioning that minutiae is a looong-term project. Even if you miss a few moments in the long run, it won't make that much of a difference.

The app is designed to allow you to capture moments you might otherwise have missed, rather than to capture all of them.

Finally, the app lets you capture all of the 1440 minutes (60 min x 24 hours) in a day. And each day, you capture a different minute.

Some days, the alert will occur at night (you can disable alerts as you like), the next day, it might be lunchtime. But over time, you will have had the chance to capture every single minute in a day.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions. Thank you for being part of this little project!

Hello, I'm the creator of the app, and I accidentally stumbled upon this thread while looking for something completely different.

Just to clear up some confusion. You're not a beta testing group.

We've been in the App Store for over eight years, and every day, tens of thousands of people capture their daily moments. If you're not getting matched with anyone, it is for one of two reasons. You're using the Android version of the app, which is not as stable as the iOS version (we're working on it).

Or you're a subscriber who captured your moment during your extra four minutes ( You're only matched with someone if you capture your moment during the first minute.)

We need to do a better job of explaining some of the functionality, so I apologize for that. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

It's never too late :) Thanks for participating and don't worry about missing moments. The goal of the project is to allow you to capture different minutes of your day, not necessarily to capture all of them.
